As you see the one on the right it has collapsed. Several buildings swaying or ve collapsed. There are 21 Million People in greater mexico city. If you compare that to the greater bay area we have 7 Million People here. So three times the number. This spot is particularly prone to earthquake damage. The city is actually built on an old lake bed. Ties. Now we dont know about but look at the number of people in the street thealresu on the bottom left hand side. Also todays quake 32 years to the day when a magnitude eight earthquake hit mexico city. That quake killed at least 5,000 people. Again that was back in 1985. Because of the anniversary people in mexico city actually held their earthquake drills earlier today right before this 7. 1 quake struck. After the eight earthquake they built a rather effective warning system. They have sirens that go off before the ground actually starts to shake. But at this time we dont know how much warning people in mexico city actually had before the 7. 1 quake hit. Again dont know if there are any casualties from todays quake. But certainly there are going to be numerous injuries at the very least. We have been watching these live pictures come in from the mexico city newspaper called excelsior showing people digging through several of the collapsed buildings. It looked like at at least one building there had pancaked but many more probably. Were going to watch these pictures and continue to monitor the information coming in from mexico city. An off duty chp officer killed in a crash happened just before 6 00 this morning. Heres the story from sandra osborne. A friend of the man stopped by to say he was a great man and officer. He was likely on his way to work this morning when the crash happened on the road right behind me. He was a good officer. Someone you wanted by your side. Also a population of 21 Million People, many people getting out of those buildings and getting into the street.
