Havent seen these numbers in over two decades here in the bay area so i wanted to confirm it with the National Weather service. Just got off the phone with them. Yeah, we have some forecast high temperatures as high as 118 degrees by friday and saturday. And you know, really, once it gets over 105, its life threatening. And you have to be aware of that. Heat stroke can settle in very carefully. We have some of the hottest temperatures coming in the past couple decades here in the bay area. Not today. Today is the last of the seasonal temperatures. Right now were calling for some thin overcast over the san jose area. We are now in the 50s. We have stratus breaking up very rapidly. The winds right now are still out of the westnorthwest at 4 in pleasanton, 12 in san ramon but these numbers are going to move more towards 10 to 20 Miles Per Hour in the afternoon hours and rotate around to move an offshore push. Look at that marine layer. When is the last time you have seen that. Its breaking up rapidly this morning. Temperatures 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s across the board today. We have heat tomorrow, up to 110 in the inland areas. We are tracking a hot spot ourselves in the traffic department. Fire crews heading to the scene on 101 near story road possibly under the 280 overpass there. So just a heads up. You will see some flashing lights as well as emergency crews on the scene and they may have some lanes blocked. Well get more details for you coming up as soon as they get there and we can get some information. But just anticipate some minor slowdowns if you are heading in that direction. The National Hurricane center says that harvey is back on land this morning. It made a second landfall in louisiana, and parts of texas are still trying to recover from the first landfall with searchandrescue crews trying to reach people who are still trapped. The storm slammed beaumont, texas, overnight. Its about 85 miles east of houston. Forecasters say that some areas around the city have gotten more than 50 inches of rain so far. At least 10 people have died. That number is expected to go up as crews make it into more neighborhoods to search for people. More than 13,000 people have already been rescued. One of those evacuees is from santa rosa. She lives with her fiance in north padre island. She said she only had 5 minutes to pack up and get out. She drove home to california but her fiance stayed behind to help with coast guard rescues. My heart breaks for those just because, like, im so happy that we have a house to go home to but so many of them lost everything. Children are in tupperware bins so they can float and nobody should have to live like that. Volunteers are working trying to reach trapped people. The controversial push to split up a Mount Diablo School District has taken a major hit. Kpix 5s Jessica Flores reports from Pleasant Hill. Reporter good morning. Here in Pleasant Hill, parents packed a meeting for eight hours as the school board the countys school board of education decided whether or not it would support that district splitting up. They voted no. The parents who wanted to secede want a new district. They want to take all five walnut creek schools, acres out of mount diablo unified. They want to form a new northgate unified School District. Now, nearly 90 people addressed the Contra Costa County board of education. Those wearing orange shirts for secession and those in red fighting to keep the district together. Parents of the wealthy are part of mount diablo unified, they have been talking about splitting from the district since 2014. They say its overcrowded and financially strapped. Opponents say this is a case of a wealthy largely White Community in Contra Costa County trying to segregate itself. The trouble is that drawing the School District line will cement in this segregation forever. There is no racism here. We have a wonderful, wonderful inclusionary community. Reporter supporters of secession have gathered 6700 signatures from people who agree with their efforts. But their efforts took a major blow with the county board of education voting no which is essentially a recommendation to the state board of education that the state board of education has to decide now, whether this issue move forward and go before voters . Reporting live in Pleasant Hill, im Jessica Flores, kpix 5. The white house is eliminating a rule about to take effect thats aimed at ending wage discrimination against women and minorities. President obamas executive order would have required businesses with more than 100 employees to report how much they pay different genders and races but the Trump Administration called the rule unnecessarily burdensome on employers. Meanwhile, the ban on Transgender Service members in the military has been frozen. Defense secretary jim mattis just made that announcement. Mattis says he wants to establish a panel of experts to provide advice and recommendations on how to carry out the directives that there will be no more transgender in the armed forces. State lawmakers have advanced a bill to classify violence by white nationalists and neonazi groups as terrorist attacks. It came in response to the deadly rally in charlottesville this month where a white supremacist is charged with driving his car into a crowd of counter protestors. The bill would also expand hate crime laws to cover anyone defending someone covered under the current law. The measure unanimously passed its First Senate Committee vote yesterday. Harvey slammed the beaumont area in southeastern texas overnight with lightning, wind and what the National Weather Service Called catastrophic and lifethreatening flooding. Everybody needs to start kind of going in that survival mode and start trying to get yourself to higher elevations. Reporter some residents are trapped and in desperate need of help. In the city of port arthur, rescue teams are fighting a fire and floodwaters. Cbs affiliate kfdm posted this photo and says the fire spread to several houses and the neighborhood is being evacuated. County official had to shut down rescue operation at night and the local sheriff says resources can get through because of the high water. In houston, where the rain is finally starting to subside, the danger is far from over. More than 13,000 rescues have happened since harvey hit. Here u. S. Customs and Border Protection agency says the person caught in fastmoving water and people stuck atop their submerged truck got a lifeline from a small inflatable boat. And we are learning more about some of harveys victims. Among them is a 34year veteran of the Houston Police department who was killed while driving into work on sunday. Officials are bracing for the tragedy to deepen even more as the water starts to recede here. They are making grim discovery. Don, you mentioned that some of the shelters are either full or over capacity at this point. Whats the plan for those still trapped in homes right now after they are taken to safety . Reporter the shelters are overwhelmed here. But certainly the opening of that nrg stadium shelter which can house 10,000 people will help things. Also, just across the street from where im standing, at the toyota center, that will now become a shelter specifically for families. Now, the parents who want the district to secede want to split off walnut creek schools that includes walnut acres, bancroft and valley verdict elementary schools, plus Foothill Middle School and northgate high school. Reporter the deadline for possible action to end the daca program is less than a week away so immigrant rights supporters are digging in their heels trying to defend it. The lawsuit claims that the company is breaking a state law involving drivers who receive toll violations on the golden gate bridge. It requires fastrak to make an effort to notify drivers and allow them to challenge penalties.
