Live from the cbs bay area studios this is kpix5 news. What is going on in san jose . Tonight officers opened fire for the fourth time in nine days with deadly results. This latest shooting happened just before 7 00 tonight on Kirkhaven Court at stoneyhaven way. Betty yu is there for us tonight. Reporter the street behind me has been closed off for the last four hours for this investigation and right now you can still see there are several Police Officers and cruisers here as well as the body of that suspect. It is lying in the street just on the other side of the patrol car. Now San Jose Police right now will only say that an officer shot and killed a suspect just before 7 00 tonight. Beyond that they arent releasing much information. We are hearing reports, though, that this started as a chase that began as far south as monterey county. I did speak to a neighbor in the area who says that he was just a few houses away from where this drama went down on Kirkhaven Court. I was just in my bedroom just, you know, relaxing watching tv and all i heard was two gunshots coming from that direction and then when i came out just to see what was going on, the, you know, i just seen someone laying on the floor back over there. Reporter this is the second officerinvolved shooting in less than 24 hours in this city. Now just moments ago we did hear from a woman who identified herself as the sister of the suspect. She came out here, spoke to the media, said that she was very upset with police but wouldnt elaborate beyond that. We are waiting for a Public Information officer from San Jose Police out here to give us more details so that we can learn a little bit more about the suspect and what led to this shooting. For now live in san jose betty yu, kpix5. Just late last night police cornered a homicide suspect at a strip mall on center road. Surveillance video captured the moments leading up to that fatal shooting. Investigators say when the man reached for a gun, officers fired several shots killing him. Reporter filled with this goo that doesnt even begin to pore out of an open jar when tipped, its the key to japanese seismic technology. Its been in use in japan for 20 years and is the reason so many buildings survived 2011s 9. 0 quake. When all is said and done, there will be 120 of these panels scattered across the campus. The first viscous wall dampers in the u. S. Was based on location, location, location. On this site we have a difference of elevation from 45 feet from one side of post to one end. Reporter the panels are made in reno. That goo is heated to 150 degrees and pumped in and very carefully transported upright to the construction site. We transport them upright because they do have viscous fluid and although thats very thick fluid, if we tilt them on their sides, there will be a little bit of settlement in the damper. Reporter the goal is simple. If the big one hits, this 274 bed hospital will remain open. This hospital will remain fully operational. The New CaliforniaPacific Medical center is scheduled to open in 2019 at a cost of about 2 billion. Today was the first test of the states new earthquake warning system. The fgcs said it did what its supposed to do but its impossible to warn everyone because quakes travel so fast. People within 9 miles of the quake got no warning at all. Thats because the shock waves have no time to get to the sensors. At 15 miles you get a three seconds heads up, at 25 miles seven seconds and people 50 miles away got a full 20 seconds to prepare. We have a complete earthquake is from online on our website. Go to www. Cbssf. Com earthquakes.
