Youre backed up substantially 6 to 9 miles an hour now in some spots as you work your way westbound. You definitely want to use alternates. If you commute out of the San Ramon Valley use 680 to 580. I know thats the long way around but this is a pretty big backup there on westbound 24. At last check from mobile 2 its beyond camino pablo at this point. A road in san jose a notorious for potholes is finally getting fixed. Kpix 5s keit do with an update on the repaving of foxworthy avenue where he is familiar with the bumpy ride. Reporter never thought i would have to say this, but there is nothing like the sound of a jackhammer in the Early Morning hours. [ jackhammer ] reporter for years foxworthy avenue has been a pain in the asphalt. Crews are finally stripping and resurfacing the roadway. The mayor says it has been a poster child of neglect. Its a little rough. Foxworthy is pretty rough. Reporter foxworthy is supposed to be a quiet neighborhood street. Instead, its been used and abused like an expressway with the battle scars to prove it. I have driven on this road nearly every day for the past 7 years dodging the web of potholes like a race car driver on a slalom course. It got so bad someone put up a sign last year that red pothole mine field ahead. We didnt know whether to laugh or cry. Its kind of sad. Reporter the easiance when people ask what took so long . The short answer is money. Reporter mayor sam liccardo says during the Great Recession police and Fire Services took priority over the roads. All the while, small cheaper cracks grew into gaping expensive potholes. The good news . The improving economy means san jose has dramatically increased the repair budget this year to 24 million. The bad news . The repair backlog is half billion dollars. So the bills coming due. And when you put it off, it means the bill gets a lot larger quicker. So we have to make the investments now. My karras received so much damage from the road we clang when we go down the road. Reporter after years of waiting, she cant believe its finally happening. Youre smiling . Yes. Im happy about it. I cant wait until we dont have to deal with the potholes anymore. Theyre huge reporter so if you believe some of the signs that are out here looks like they will be done by the end of this week although they have a lot of work left to do. We are seeing the drive times improve westbound 24 but unfortunately approaches towards the bay bridge this morning theres been a lot of problems with traffic at the bay bridge very light but the freeways very busy. Westbound 80 at gilman we have a motorcycle accident blocking two left lanes. Major injuries reported. We are seeing significant delays through there as well so expect to give yourself some extra time as you work your way through there increasing your driveway as you work your way towards the bay bridge where metering lights were turned on at 6 25 so traffic is light there as you head into San Francisco. But at least 25, 30 minutes now carquinez bridge to the maze because that accident near gilman. Westbound 24, 27 Miles Per Hour now in some spots. 20 minutes from 680 to 580. So thats an improvement by at least 15, 20 minutes there so thats good news. That accident is cleared out of lanes. Elsewhere 880 northbound looking good no delays. Southbound is nice if you head out of oakland into hayward. And an accident south 280 at bunker hill two left lanes actually have just been cleared. Chp on scene and moving that over to the right side some slight delays and another wreck reported north 101 at embarcadero blocking lanes. Theres some sort of debris in lanes as well again so causing some delays out of palo alto as you work your way through the peninsula this morning. Heres roberta. Good morning, everyone.
