Yeah, the evacuation area for this fire is growing. Currently hundreds of homes are threatened by these flames. You can see the road is closed behind us leading up to these areas. Firefighters facing unpredictable winds, difficult terrain and because of the drought, its also bone dry. Now, billowing smoke and crackling flames created an orange and black backdrop for tankers fighting the massive fire yesterday. Hundreds of firefighters continue to battle the rural fire. Helicopters scooped up water each bucket holding 324 gallons. Emergency responders fear the fire would move quickly, and it did, ballooning to thousands o acres in just a matter of hours. Super dry vegetation, four years of drought. The winds keep changing direction. All of a sudden its windy and we dont have very much contained and its spreading so fast and you guys just need to leave. Reporter the threat forced horses and catting to flee. According to the cal fire the wildfire may have been sparked by a car accident yesterday afternoon. Conditions out here this morning at least weatherwise are better than yesterday of course as is typical in the morning hours. Temperatures are cool. The winds have died down although humidity not really recovered much according to firefighters out here. The planes they use to fight this fire were grounded overnight. Thats typical. They generally only fly in the daylight. They are expected to go back up as soon as its light enough. Julie, can you tell us if any structures have been damaged at this point . Reporter cal fire says at this point one outbuilding has been destroyed and one home damaged. So far, no injuries. So that is good news. Sergeant lunger lived in brentwood. The 15year veteran was a native of dublin, father of two daughters. A suspect is in custody. Investigator say 21yearold mark estrada of oakland was wounded while driving away from the scene. And another officer fired at him. Sergeant lunger is the Second Police officer shot to death in the line of duty in the past 4 months in the bay area. In san jose, Michael Johnson died after responding to reports of an armed distraught man on march 24. The suspect was killed in an exchange of gunfire with another officer. Reporter Richmond Police say the suspect is going to be charged with rape, false imprisonment and kidnapping among other charges. Police raided an Apartment Building in the Iron Triangle district of richmond on chancellor street. They say they rescued a woman from nicaragua. Police say she was held against her will in a closet for a year. The man is accused of meeting the woman on facebook and luring her here with promises of work and a better life in the united states. Neighbors dont believe he would do this and they seemed like a normal couple. I see them go to dinner, go to dry clothes, go wash clothes, go shopping. Yeah. She was at home all day long by herself to leave. She could leave if she wanted to leave. When this couple who asked not to be identified were attacked in a shared lyft. It was near the corner of 15 and valencia when two men in the suv with them got crewed. They just were talking like really derogatorily about women and about dating apps and their coworkers and just saying pretty nasty things that were not comfortable. Reporter when the couple asked the men to stop, things exploded. He just says to me, you need to control your woman. And since its not like 1850, i took offense to that. Before i knew it he was just throwing punches like he hit me in the head five or six times. Reporter her boyfriend has a knot on his forehead from the punches. She says the driver didnt stop the ride until she yelled for help. Thats when the two men took off and the boyfriend called 911. But there was nothing you could do. I just didnt have the data that lyft is just just has, you know . Who these people were. What their addresses and phone number is. Reporter the driver tried and failed to get a hold of lyft. People who are driving should be trained to know what to do should something arise. Um, they should also there should be protocol for if the cops have to get called. The sheriff of waller county, texas, says no one gained access to the jail cell where an illinois woman was found hanging. Investigators say sandra bland was arrested earlier this month after assaulting an officer during a traffic stop. A medical examiner ruled bland killed herself but her friends and family dont believe it. Im infuriated and everybody else should be, as well. Records indicate bland told a jail employee she once attempted suicide after losing a baby. Still, federal and local authorities are investigating the case as a possible homicide. It is 4 44.
