The victims including the suspects daughter were all found in the same house on saturday afternoon. He was arrested about 1 00 a. M. Yesterday near blossom hill road and santa teresa boulevard in san jose. Kpix 5s Christian Hartnett has more on the suspect and victims. Reporter Martin Martinez was arrested just hours after being named a person of interest. We know at this point one of the victims was a doctor in the modesto area, another victim was martinezs own daughter. 30yearold Martin Martinez is behind bars suspected of killing five people in modesto. Family members have identified amanda cruz as one of those victims. Cruz was a doctor who worked in stanislaus county. Distraught relatives were escorted away from the crime scene saturday afternoon. Where the five bodies were found in a home in this suburban modesto neighborhood. Its really scary yeah. Its really scary. And it just like made my stomach really upset. Reporter Modesto Police say it received a call saturday afternoon from a concerned person asking for a Security Check on the home. When Police Showed up they found the five bodies. We have identified that all of the victims inside are female. All of them are related. Reporter late saturday night police named martinez as a person of interest and released a picture of his 2000 red lincoln navigator, hours after being named a person of interest, martinezs unoccupied car was spotted more than 80 miles away from the crime scene on lieu certain way in east san jose. Police say a Family Member lives there and Police Suspect he got into another car at that time. Thats when San Jose Police headed to the oak ridge mall and eventually made the arrest. In san jose, Christian Hartnett, kpix 5. They range in ages from 6 months to 6 years and so far investigators arent saying anything about how the victims died or a possible motive. People turned out to honor the victims of last months deadly balcony collapse in berkeley. The irish consulate organized a memorial last night at Martin Luther king jr. Park. Six people were killed and seven more hurt when the fifth floor balcony crashed to the ground during a party on june 16th. The mayor of berkeley says the city is taking steps to make sure it never happens again. We just passed an emergency ordinance last week which said that all new all balconies in berkeley need to be reinspected. All balconies. Were going to make sure they are safe. The mayor says the city also plans to implement new guidelines. Interstate 10 is shut down in both directions this morning near palm springs. Flash flooding completely washed out an eastbound bridge and damaged a westbound bridge as well. The interstate is normally the main route between california and arizona. Caltrans says the damaged sections will stay closed completely and indefinitely. Good morning, well engineers will assess the damage to the bridge this morning. Where a 30foot section of the freeway collapsed trapping a truck driver. Its being blamed on the heavy rains and flooding that shut down the freeway. The bridge 50 miles west of the Arizona State line washed away. Traffic headed toward arizona was forced to turn around. One driver was injured at the Riverside CountyFire Department had to extract that driver who crashed in the collapse. Rain, thunder and lightning fell over Southern California in a rare summer storm system. This caused power outages, downed trees and water rescues and beach closures. Firefighters worked to keep mud out of half a dozen houses. Theres firefighters out this as well as a lot of heavy equipment only raptors operators that are trying to get that mud and debris up. Were working as quick as we can. Reporter these storms dropped as much as four inches of rain in some areas and forecasters are predictable more rain and some heavy downpours throughout the day today. After a record high of 86 degrees in San Francisco, it is currently 68 degrees at this early hour. It was 95 in livermore on sunday. It is currently 73. Were in the mid 07 end zone concord. 70s in concord. This is it and the remains of what was once a category 3 hurricane and then downsized to tropical storm. Tropical depression. Area of low pressure. And then the remnants as it bangs up against Southern California and lifts up towards the Northern California area. No rain in the forecast today but we will see some partly cloudy conditions and outside chance of an isolated thunderstorm and our temperatures very muggy. There was overnight construction and apparently one of the asphalt trucks on scene stalled out. They do have a replacement truck out there but the bottom line is that two lanes are going to be shut down indefinitely as they work to clear the disabled truck and as they work to complete the road work out there. Two lanes shut down southbound 680 just beyond 580. Use your alternates. In the meantime long delays already, traffic down to 42 Miles Per Hour for this stretch of 680 west. 580 is slow already leaving the Altamont Pass from the 205 interchange. We also have road work on the nimitz. Its in Fremont South 880 two lanes are closed until 6 00 this morning. But the branch is looking good and bay bridge is looking good and there are no delays for the b. A. R. T. System. Now to maria. San jose Police Officers will begin testing body worn cameras in the field. The purpose of the Pilot Program is so make sure officers follow procedures and to protect officers when theyre falsely accused of wrongdoing. Its going to be two versions of to be two versions that would happen. Its not going to be a complaint saying hey, he was rude. Versus my version of events and what i documented in the police report, theres going to be one story captured on this camera. And the cameras will have to be on during all interactions with the public and whenever an officer suspects a crime is being committed. They are telling folks to expect delays for southbound 680 where will they do have where they do have two lanes shut down for late road work, apparently one of the asphalt truck that was doing overnight construction has stalled out. They have a new truck out there but they are expecting delays as they continue to road work. Shut down indefinitely again this is southbound 680 approaching 580 just beyond the 580 interchange. Expect delays for about a quarter mile for southbound 680 departing the dublin interchange. Westbound 580. Thats already backed up leaving the Altamont Pass from beyond the 205 interchange. Just a tough start for the tri valley if i can speak. Southbound 880 through the fremont area. Theres road work it does have a couple of lanes of traffic shut down and caltrans will be out there until 6 00 this morning. It doesnt salespeople to be slowing seem to be slowing down traffic much. Theres road work this morning out there until 11 00 at the san mateo bridge. Its in the noncommute direction eastbound a couple of lanes shut down until 11 00. So those are the trouble areas this morning. Westbound traffic right here at the bay bridge toll plaza still looks okay with no delays leaving oakland. Fire is now 75 contained in the pass but there has already been some significant damage. The fire destroyed seven homes and more than 60 vehicles when it erupted on friday. Reporter meet trudy. A plant known as a titan arum. Native to the rain forest, the species is also known as a corpse flower. For the rancid stench it emits when it first begins to bloom. In the middle of a forest, it appears to be a big hot smelly decomposing animal and of course thats part of the biology. Reporter when it opens fully the smell of rotting flesh attracts bugs and flies that help pollinate the massive flowers in the plants interior. Today trudy attracted a swarm of tourists. Hoping to catch her in all her disgusting glory. Does that make it more fun that its kind of gross . Yeah. If you can picture what a dead rat smells like and then take a leap up to what a dead dog and then maybe go for a cow, now youre approaching what this is going to smell like. And well still keep an outside chance of an isolated thunderstorm in the forecast today. We had overnight rain in san jose. It will be 89 degrees there and 93 livermore.
