Investigators famed a person of interest in the deaths of five people whose bodies were found in a home in modesto yesterday. Police are looking for 30 year old Martin Martinez of modesto. Two adults and three children were found dead yesterday afternoon. It is no the clear how they died. Their deaths though are being investigated as homicides. Police have not said how martinez is connected. They believe he is armed and dangerous. A 5th man died yesterday from the attack on the military recruiting station in tennessee. The family of Randall Smith he managed to give his wife a thumbs up sign after surgery yesterday but died a short time later. He was 24 years old. Interstate 15 in San Bernadino reopened after a wildfire closed the roadway. It tore across the interstate yesterday setting dozens of cars on fire. Sorry that was friday. There was another fire near wright wood lit up the sky last night and destroyed 200 acres and forced hundreds of campers to evacuate. Wild weather wreaked havoc in Southern California with hikers caught on a steep beach and heavy lanes turned the hill rains turned the hillside into a slip side. An unusual protest to save a grove of trees. A group of environmentalists gathered with plans to strip naked to save hundreds of eucalyptus trees. The city plans to clear cut them to protect the area from fire. Activists insist eucalyptus are fire resistant and cutting them down will make the area more vulnerable. You might want to show up. The difficulty is that we are talking Public Safety issue when there are concerns about the hospital nearby and the Police Department is there. This isnt your normal neighborhood complaints of people dont want it in their backyard. This is a Public Safety issue. You do have complaints that dont want it in the backyard. Only in this case the neighbor is a hospital. Thats true. It concerns a lot more people when it is a hospital. Speaking of that neighborhood, giants are optimistic they will hit a home run in november election. We are talking about the Mission Rock Development the giants are proposing. It will come up for a vote and would transform the area south of at t park, a plan called for 1500 homes, new plans for office and retail space. Believe it or not the closer you are to the project the more you are inclined to party it because you see the amenities that will come online. The giants and city reached a deal. 40 of units will be available to low and middle income families. Tomorrow is also your last chance to weigh in on a proposal to drastically change the Richmond San Rafael bridge. We are talking about adding a bike path and a new lane. Now the plan includes a concrete barrier system on the upper deck for the bicycle path. On the lower deck the shoulder would be converted to a new commuter lane, a 74 million project fully funded with Bay Area Toll Authority funds and supported by bay areas savvyist lobbyist bicycle groups. Its part of the quality of life that we like in the bay area. Getting bike paths back on our major transportation facilities is a good thing to do. Oddly enough there is a bike lane on the freeway leading to the bridge but it doesnt go anywhere, something we have seen with bike lanes and other bridges. Thats right. If they do this, you would be able to ride your bike from the bay lija all the way to marin county. Part of the deal is you are putting a bike lane on one and increasing traffic lanes on the other. There is a trade off because theyre having traffic back ups in marin county crossing one way. You give to one group and to another and it sort of works out. Public comment on that ends tomorrow. Road flares left behind by maintenance crews caused two fires on the eastern span of the bay bridge. One was monday night and the other around noon on wednesday near the same spot. The flare ignited black rubber that forms a seal that plays an Important Role in protecting the bridges expansion joints. I dont think we understand what causes something diagnosed as gender dysphoria, when there is disconnect between your birth gender and how you feel about yourself, who you are. We saw Caitlyn Jenner saying i am a woman. Before the transgender, bruce jenner was everything we thought about what is a successful masculine male. He is telling us his whole life and now she tells us her whom life she was a woman. It seems like a marketing thing. Most transgenders dont have that kind of glory. In this case i dont think its the policy. I think it was a lack of communication between the Sheriffs Office and ice happen. Do you think there should be changes in the policy . Yes, i think there should be changes to be sure this never happens again. What changes . I think first we should not pervert this policy to say it allows or protects multi felons. In this case, it did. It shouldnt. I was a prosecutor for seven years and saw first hand what a broken immigration system can look like. I would have victims of crimes i would subpoena to court, a taco truck robbery victim often, i would subpoena them to court to hold their robbers accountable and i would find they were removed and never committed a crime. The victim had been deported. Then i would find that in many cases violent criminals were being released back into the street. We have a broken immigration system and a sanctuary city policy should not be a shield for a felon. We can have a sanctuary city policy that protects victims of crime. What would that look like . What changes need to be made . There are several proposals being debated in the house. The Sheriffs Office should be able to alert ice that they have a felon. They already are able to. They could have picked up the phone but they didnt. Should there be repercussions for the fact that they didnt . They will have to answer for that. They should be able to alert ice if they have a Domestic Violence defendant in their custody who is a misdemeanor convicted. They can, but theyre not. They need to. Should they be punished for not . They should be held to account. What should that look like . There is talk about withholding federal funds from sanctuary cities. At some point common sense has to prevail. You can have a sanctuary city that protects law abiding undocumented immigrants but still makes sure that violent individuals or repeat offenders are gone and theyre not here in our community where they can kill people, a young person like kate who had her life ahead of her. Lets talk more about the tough situation the family is in, you knowing the family. First they didnt want to get into the politics of it. We should mention this is a private development on city owned land. That Public Meeting they were talking about is scheduled for september 21. Another bay area city wants a cap on rising rents to keep people from being priced out of their homes. Tuesday the city of richmond is set to take a vote on rent control, something shot down in santa rosa last month but the council is considering less drastic options like fast tracking housing projects and changing Affordable Housing requirements. Politicians who support this say the time to fix the problem is now. If it doesnt happen, landlords will jackup rents out of fear that theyll be regulated more than they might be. The vote in richmond is happening at the City Council Meeting tuesday night. Another touchy issue. We have seen this in a number of bay area cities including San Francisco and now into the surrounding areas. How do you control the cost . You have people that move farther from the city. It is crazy everywhere. The flip side on the debate is if you implement rent controls then do landlords have incentive to keep things up . Berkeley has had ups and downs, San Francisco as well. People are having problems. The judge is considering the fate of five embryos. The would be mother wants them implanted. Her exhusband wants them destroyed. Lee is 46 years old. I think raiders are looking to see what city county will offer. The marry said she doesnt want money in a physical stadium but all the surrounding infrastructure is what the city and county can contribute. Deep in your remarks you said we are waiting to see what could happen. How much of the whole plan, the thing on the screen now, a new baseball park, is treading water until carson down in Los Angeles Area decides whether or not theyre going to build for the raiders . I think the ball is in our court. I think the carson project is waiting to see what will happen in oakland. The teams are still here. We have the land and have done the Environmental Impact report. Its on us. The team says they want to stay here. Right now the team is the raiders. He doesnt have the money to build the stadium. He doesnt. Okay. So he doesnt have the money to build the stadium. Davis says but i want my stadium but i dont have the money. What situation is that . You have the land and the transportation hub. This is the best spot for both teams. The county of alameda owns some. There are three political enemies. Thats one of your challenges. Most are saying we would rather deal with one entity rather than three entities. Every time i come we talk about the same thing. Its not just oakland. Its broader east bay. There is political capital. There is economic liability. And the image. Right. Look at what having Golden State Warriors did this past year with the city of oakland. Great scenes with live from oakland. The parade was phenomenal. It was a beautiful day. Its great. East bay sports and all three teams, can support all three teams. The raiders sold out the last three teams. Why not just let them play where they are . Right. That would be a great option. Were the last stadium in the country where both teams play in the same facility. The raiders want a separate facility. As want a separate facility. Life in modern day sports. Modern day sports. How much are the teams worth . Clippers sold for 2 billion. Think they might have enough money to do it themselves . I admire your efforts. I think they want to stay here and we can support them.
