Reporter ken, the fire is still raging, 3500 acres and only 5 contained. It has burned at least five homes in a Rural Community north of San Bernardino and it is a mess. Look at the aftermath on i15. The highway is still closed as a massive cleanup operation is underway. Just a few hours ago, those were cars driving thrown the interstate. It started out as a grass fire but it kept growing and growing. 80 people driving along i15 decided to abandon their cars and trucks leaving them right there on the freeway. At first we thought it would be taking out. But it got closer and closer. So you did what . Got out and started running up the hill. The fire kept growing. Reporter it jumped the freeway and we saw this dramatic scene unfold. Flames began to consume vehicles. The fire ripped through a couple of big rigs, just burned them to the ground. Dozens of cars suffered the same fate. Traffic backed up miles on the highway from Southern California to las vegas. This should be coming right there. Reporter firefighters dropped retardant, but the fire charged onto the Rural Communities nearby. As firefighters continued their aerial attack. After hours of letting the flames burn themselves out, they let people back to their cars on the freeway. Many found this scene. Smoking remains l all that was left was the frames. Five homes damaged. 20 vehicles destroyed. Incredibly, no reports of injuries. In the news room, joe vasquez, kpix5. The man accused of the bizarre kidnapping wants the victim to know something. He is sorry. He told our Juliette Goodrich why he is happy to be behind bars. Reporter he went to harvard, was a marine sergeant and game an immigration lawyer. Did he really master mind the kidnapping of this woman denice huskins . I asked him about this but he didnt want to get into specifics but he made it clear that denise deserves an apology. Matthew said i suffer from extreme paranoia and psychosis. It is blur the lines between reality and fantasy in my mind. According to a federal affidavit, there seems to be plenty of evidence that matthew was behind one of the most bizarre crimes in recent bay area history. This started march 23. Denises boyfriend aaron quinn called cops saying someone broke into their home, forced them to wear goggles, tied them up, and drugged them. Aaron said when he came to, denise was gone and later police got a call demanding 8,500 in ransom. Days later, denise showed up at her parents house in Southern California. No cameras are allowed inside jailhouse interviews. I jotted down some notes right after the interview. My first impression, he is extremely intelligent and wasnt shy to talk. He also laid down some ground rules that some things would be off the record for background only. He told me i want to focus on the victims. I do feel very bad for denise and other victims out there. I asked him what he thought when Vallejo Police said denise and aaron made it all up. He putt his head down and said that should never have happened to her. He talked about his mental state telling me he suffers from bipolar disorder, ranging from being hyper focused, a high achiever and super productive to suicidal tendencies. He said i dont want anyone to fear someone who has depression or mental illness. Mine is extreme. He told me he was actually relieved to be in jail in a controlled environment. He told me if he was to have a break down, nothing bad would happen to him or anyone else. Matthew muller has yet to enter a plea. These guys dangling from a helicopter were part of a massive drug raid in san jose. Thousands of pounds of marijuana confiscated. Reporter new cell phone video captured part of the gunmans shootout with police. 24yearold Muhammad Youssef abdulazeez was carrying two rifles and a handgun. Officials tell us at least one of the rifles was an assault style weapon. Police also say he was wearing a vest with enough ammunition to reload. And these officers were under a tremendous amount of gunfire from this individual and yet they continue to move forward against this target and engage him, and eliminate that threat saving numerous lives throughout this community. Reporter Muhammad Youssef abdulazeezs computers and other communication devices have been sent to the fbi lab in virginia. Officials will see whether he had contact with isis or other terrorist groups. Officials say he traveled to jordan last year and spent seven months overseas. Investigators want to know who he met with and if any of his contacts attempted to radicalize him. Investigators have discovered two blog posts attributed to him. He tells me i dont have any rights and i needed to give hem my information and i told him i wasnt going to give him anything and they pulled me out of the car. He ran it by a retired judge to get her opinion on whether hector should have handed his id over. They had a report. And this is what is important. They had a report of a suspicious vehicle that may have had people inside the vehicle involved in a crime. So, if this is similar to the vehicle, that is absolutely what these officers should have done.
