Federal and local investigators are looking into the background of the gunman for answers. Reporter using an automatic rifle Authorities Say 24year old Muhammad Youssef abdulazeez opened fire on the marines at this military facility thursday before he was shot and killed by police. While the kuwaitborn gunman was not on the governments radar, a source tells cbs news his father was under investigation years ago for possible terror ties. That probe did not lead to an arrest. At this point, authorities arent sure what motivated abdulazeez to first open fire here at this strip mall before driving seven miles away and killing those marines. But they are looking into whether he was motivated or influenced by isis. We do know isis the last several weeks has been putting out social media across the world telling people that they will enjoy ten times the reward in the after life if they commit an act of jihad as a martyr for isis. You have to understand im the developer of the Oakland Global project and at the time that those statements were made, our focus was building a multicommodity terminal. The company we were working with at the time had plans for iron ore. Reporter but now he is working with a new company, run by this guy, jerry burgess, who tagami says is calling the shots and, in fact, bridges told us two weeks ago.
