AgResearch scientists have discovered that scoby (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast), which is used in the fermentation of kombucha, is effective in reducing E coli to undetectable levels dairy effluent.
The bacteria can pose a significant risk to people and livestock if consumed and is an indicator that other faecal microbes like campylobacter might be present and is easy to measure.
