Koinonia, a nonprofit in Northeast Ohio providing services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, has announced it is implementing a new model of care to ensure it is addressing the range of needs of the people it serves by focusing on providing for their health, wellness and well-being.
Koinonia developed the Whole-Person Integrated Care approach, which includes mental and behavioral health care, as well as an understanding of social and environmental issues that need to be considered when treating individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), according to a news release. The organization developed the approach with the rising cost of health care in mind and in an effort to address the need to treat each individual as a whole person.
