Who will be the next mayor . Former state senator mark leno is the only one whos a declared candidate for the november Mayoral Election in 2019, but now there will be a special election for interim mayor in june. He faces election much sooner. I was planning on another two years of campaigning, now it will be a mere six month. Reporter leno has already been raising money and building coalitions since he declared last may. But he may be facing board of supervisors president london breed who is now acting mayor. If she runs, you might call her sort of an incumbent. Should president breed decide to run, it will be an uphill battle for anyone thats going to be looking to challenge her. Reporter other potential candidates, state assemblyman and former supervisors president david chu who ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 2011. Former supervisor and assemblyman tom amiano says chu will have to roll the dice. His challenge will be the race for assembly is this year as well, so if he ran in june, he would have to give up his assembly race. Firefighters have finally got a ring all the way around one of the stubborn wildfires in Southern California. The rye fire is now completely contained, leaving four active fires. The biggest and least contained is still the thomas fire, burning in ventura and Santa Barbara counties. Its just 25 contained and more than 270,000 acres. Today fighters attempt to get ahead of the flames with strategic burning while the winds are relatively calm. More than 900 structures have been destroyed, at least 700 of them homes. The thomas fire is also threatening the largest avocado producer in the country, but so far it appears the orchards are okay. A statement from company says 14 farm worker Housing Units have been gurnd and there was a brief power outage, but the company does not expect the fire and wind damage to have Significant Impact on operations. Low temperatures drop down to 29 in ukiah and fairfield, mid30s in most of the inland east bay but low 30s at napa and santa rosa where we will see temperatures dropping below freezing, probably other locations nearby as well. Mid30s to upper 30s near the bay. A low of 36 expected in oakland. Again, get ready for another chill. In the afternoon, it will be another pleasant, mild and hazy day with high temperatures in the mid60s right around the bay. Mid to upper 60s inland and mid60s to 70s on the coast. The coast and central bay moderate. It will be moderate just about everywhere on friday. So friday will probably not be a spare the air day and well have good air quality in many parts of the bay area on saturday and sunday. Lets look ahead to increasing winds starting on friday. Thats going to help mix out some of the haze and the pollution and bring us some cleaner air, but its going to be problematic perhaps up in the hills as the gusts will be quite strong. That will hold, that pattern into saturday night, but on sunday well begin to see the wind ease up a little bit and normalizing by midday on sunday. The city says two employee unions have ratified new contracts with the city, but theyre not the ones who staged a sevenday strike. Now, the city says members of the International Brotherhood of electrical workers and the Confidential Management Employees Association have ratified a twoyear agreement with the city. Ibew represents city electrical workers. Neither group was involved in the strike. City says both groups accepted the same proposal offered to sciu 1021. It included a 4 raise for the year and a 1 raise in 2019 that could be doubled depending on city revenues. The city says negotiations with the two unions that held the strike, sciu and ifpte will continue on monday.
