According to the local governor, at least nine people are dead and around 50 are injured. Those dangerous high winds part of the same weather system also impacting multiple southern u. S. States overnight, with arkansas and texas taking the most serious hit, including strong winds and hail battering communities. A reported tornado slamming temple, texas. Those are the days were going to see some severe storms. The next two days, well lower the threat of tornadoes, but as we go into saturday and sunday, well increase the threat of tornadoes again. We do have some thunderstorms moving through just west of knoxville, but its the second round of storms that were going to see later on this afternoon that could produce large hail and also damaging winds. But we have a lot of cloudtoground lightning approaching little rock, heavier downpours, too, but in this area that includes omaha, nebraska, where we could see 2inch diameter sized hail, thats baseballsized hail and wind gusts up to 75 miles per hour. Its in this whole hatched area here with the lines. Thats where we have threat of the largest hail today. Tomorrow, the threat of severe storms include chicago, indianapolis, st. Louis, all the way down to dallas, including memphis. Again, large hail, damaging wind gusts, but an isolated tornado. Then as we go into saturday and sunday, well increase that tornado threat again. We could see another tornado outbreak, right through the central and Southern Plains on saturday, and on sunday, the threat moves farther to the east, including st. Louis, louisville, paducah, kentucky, even including nashville, where we could see some tornadoes begin to develop as well, hoda. All right, dylan, thank you. The Biden Administration announcing this week it would release a Million Barrels of gas from a reserve to drive those prices down even further, but its unlikely to make a big difference this weekend. And it comes as the Supreme Court is set to decide key cases this term, related to the Capitol Attack and election interference, including whether former President Trump is immune from prosecution, for trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election. Reporter another Supreme Court controversy this morning, involving Justice Samuel alito, over a new report of a flag flying outside of his new jersey beach house, according to the new york times. The socalled appeal to heaven flag, a green pine tree on a white background. A symbol carried by some rioters outside the capitol on january 6th. You see it here and here. Photographs it obtained from outside of alitos property from last summer, along with accounts from a halfdozen neighbors and passersby, as well as this google street view picture from last august. The flag, rooted in the revolutionary war, has more recently become a symbol of support for Christian Nationalism and for donald trump. But now, renewed calls from the democratic chair of the Senate Judiciary committee for alito to recuse himself from cases related to the 2020 election, calling the incident yet another example of apparent ethical misconduct. Other democrats agree. At a very minimum, he has to recuse himself from these cases now coming before the court that will determine whether or not trump is held accountable. It really encapsulates all of the problems weve had with this rogue Supreme Court and its refusal to accept any rule of law. Reporter its the second time in less than a week alito has faced questions, after the justice confirmed another provocative flag, an upside down american flag, flew outside of his Northern Virginia home in the days after january 6th, telling the times, i had no involvement whatsoever in the flying of the flag and that it was briefly placed by his wife in response to a neighbors use of objectionable and personally insulting language on yard signs. The upside down flag, long considered a distress signal, but its been adopted by some Trump Supporters backing the former president s Election Fraud lies. Some republicans after that report dismissing calls for recusal. I dont think that he should be recused. I think it was a mistake. But ill leave it up to him to explain it. We should note that Justice Alito did not respond to the times request for comment and the court did not respond to nbc news, savannah. Another note from 2024, Donald Trumps former rival, nikki haley, who was fiercely critical of him, has now, essentially, endorsed said shell vote for donald trump. What do you know about that . Its a huge shift, savannah. Shes coming out now, publicly saying that she will vote for the former president this fall. Very different from how she described him during the primaries just a few months ago, when she was running against him. Thats when she called him unstable and unhinged. She said, hes not qualified for the office. That he cannot win a general election. That he didnt deserve a drivers license, much less the white house, after he jabbed at her husbands military service, but now she says shes making this decision because, in her words, while donald trump is not perfect, President Biden, she believes, has been a catastrophe. History is back in the spotlight this morning. Victims families are now filing a new 500 million federal lawsuit, seeking damages against the responding officers and the school district, insisting more should have been done to save lives that day. In this lawsuit on behalf of those 19 families names more than 90 texas officers for what they call shocking and extensive failures during the response at robb elementary. And it comes just one day shy of the second anniversary of that tragic shooting, and some family members now saying that their calls for justice are finally being heard. Reporter torn apart by tragedy, one of the worst School Shootings in u. S. History. The families of uvaldes victims remaining united in their resolve. There was an obvious systemic failure out there on may 24th. The whole world saw that. Reporter their anguish and heartbreak, now powering legal action in the form of a new lawsuit over the shooting at Robb Elementary School in 2022, that took the lives of 19 children and two teachers. The 500 million suit naming 92 texas dps officers, the school district, and staff. Including the thenschool District Police chief, Peter Arredondo as defendants. These were the last lines of defense for these children. But they were failed long before the shooting. Reporter more than 300 officers from local, state, and federal agencies were on scene that day. But they waited more than 70 minutes before taking down the gunman. The district acknowledging the lawsuit, sharing its open to exploring a resolution. The suit following a stunning doj report in january, which found cascading failures of leadership, tactics, and training. Body cam footage inside the school shows officers fumbling with keys, hesitating to move in, and waiting in hallways, as children were killed inside classrooms. Following the dojs report, i spoke to belinda ediola, who still wonders if her 10yearold granddaughter could have survived . They had the opportunity to go in and they didnt. Reporter the family said they have also agreed to a 2 million settlement with the city, which has pledged to work with the department of justice to develop enhanced training for police. A source familiar with the matter confirming to nbc news that the department of justice will announce an antitrust lawsuit against the concert giant as soon as today that could have a major Ripple Effect attend concerts this venues all across the country. This morning, as millions of americans make their plans to attend concerts this summer, reports of a bombshell new lawsuit that could reshape the music industry. The Justice Department and a group of states plan to sue concert giant live nation, which owns ticketmaster. The doj plans to allege the company has used its monopoly power to suppress competition, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke to the wall street journal. The lawsuit would seek changes to the companys business practices, including by asking a judge to effectively undo the 2010 merger of live nation and ticketmaster, which according to the wall street journal. In 2019, the Justice Department found that they were pressuring venues to use ticketmaster and the government plans to challenge exclusive ticketing contracts that ticketmaster has with major venues, the journal reports. Live nation has also faced backlash for some time over high ticket fees, but the Company Pushing back earlier this year with a top leader writing with that the company is subject to low demand and high supply, saying that promoters dont set prices, artists do. The company has defended its merger with ticketmaster. Saying it has benefited artists, venues and fans. Welcome to the eras tour. Reporter scrutiny on the company gained moment after ticketmaster crashed during a presale for taylor swifts eras tour, leaving fans crushed. This is the biggest disaster ive ever seen on ticketmaster. Im not getting tickets. Reporter that public fiasco prompting a highprofile hearing in congress where executives were grilled. You have clear dominance, monopolistic control. This whole concert ticket system is a mess. May i suggest, respectfully, that ticketmaster ought to look in the mirror and say, im the problem. Its me. So we reached out overnight to both the Justice Department and live nation, and have not received comment from both. Look, this company, which was a merger from 2010, right . This Company Controls everything from the beginning to the end of the process, right . So concert promotion, ticketing, even the artist management, it owns and controls the venues and the festivals, the festival sites, hundreds and hundreds of them around the world. So it really its a pipeline here that the Justice Department, anywhere, along the way could say, look, we want you to allow some competition in other parts of this business. All right. And its really this whole area, with these striped lines here, where we could see baseballsized hail. That could cause significant damage. We cant rule out an isolated tornado, but were not really expecting any kind of tornado outbreak today or tomorrow, but look at how expansive this is. Well talk to the admiral in a moment, but first, a look back at her remarkable journey. For nearly four decades, admiral Lisa Franchetti has been a trailblazer in the u. S. Navy. Good morning charting her own course since 1985, when she completed the naval rotc program at northwestern university. At the time, there was only one female admiral. There was even a law that barred women from serving on combat ships. But that never stopped the young recruit from setting her sights far beyond the horizon. Once the ban was lifted in 1993, she quickly rose through the ranks and redefined what was possible for women in the navy. Is i think a big fan. When you walked in this morning, you couldnt help but watched when you walked by and were high fiving all the members of the military that were outside. It is fleet week. Do you just stop for a second and reflect where you started back in the day and where you are today. I definitely do. First, its an honor to lead our amazing team. We have about 600,000 active and reserve sailors and civilians. And they are an incredible americas warfighting navy. And i never thought i could have done this job. In fact, when i joined the navy, there were a lot of laws in place that really didnt allow women to serve in combatant positions that would enable me to get to this job one day. I was just fortunate, always in the right place at the right time with the right different experiences that when the laws changed and policy changed, i was able to walk right through those doors and move on, really to command a destroyer and a lot of other things along the way. What was it . Because it was a mans job back then. Well, until you had it, it was a mans job, and rising through the ranks. Did you encounter resistance . And you know, do you remember any of that and how you handled it . Well, i would say, really, only at the very, very beginning of my career, when women were first serving on ships, it was new. And people werent used to that idea. Not everybody was a fan of it back then. But when i fast forward now, you know, 38 years later, women are serving everywhere in our navy. We have women on submarines, you can be a pilot. I just met one of our blue angels thats a woman. So theres really nothing that you cant do. How did you deal with it back in the day . Weve all come through. There was a certain period of time where were like, we have to have our suit of armor on. We have to push your athrough. How did you deal with those times . When i was younger, i saw this quote from admiral nimitz that says, learn all you can, do your best, and dont worry about what you cant control. And if you focus on getting all of the experiences, staying positive, Everything Else will stay into place. Your job now is about naval readiness around the world. What keeps you up at night . Whats your number one concern . Well, im always concerned about our people, you know, we can have great platforms, we can have all the best equipment and everything in the world, but without those amazing people, that operate it, really, our navy doesnt go anywhere, do anything. Im worried about our folks all the time. Im worried about their quality of life, their families, but im making sure that they have all the training they need to be able to do our Mission Every single day. Recruitment is a big issue, the navy set some goals, didnt meet them last year. Now youve raised those goals even higher. So here is your molt. Whats your pitch for a life in the navy as you have lived . The navy provides an incredible amount of opportunities. We have about 150 different specialties that you can be in. I just created a new robotic rating. We have cyber warriors, work in a hospital, be a nuclear engineer, drive ships like me, serve on submarines and really serve all around the world. I think, our navy, a lot of people dont get to see it. Maybe we have a little sea blindness. If you dont live near the navy, you dont know what we do, but were deployed all around the world. We preserve the peace, were ready to respond in a crisis, and if necessary, win decisively in war. I couldnt be more proud of that team. We have people operating in the western pacific right now, with one Carrier Strike group. We have another one going around south america right now. And of course, we have the uss eisenhower Carrier Strike group with her ships leading operation prosperity guardian in the red sea to protect the free flow of commerce. And your navy is out there every day protecting your way of life and i couldnt be more proud of team. Were so happy you came to see us today, admiral. Thank you so much. We appreciate it. And i was like, i know how to do that voice. Yeah, you do. That i can do. So whats going on in the booth with you . How are you acting . What are you thinking about . Whats going on . Hmm, the process of an actor, where do i begin. No, you know, its just me, i flip my hat around, take my shoes off. And then i talk, and im telling you, this is important stuff. Give it. I talk. The second child always does that kind of stuff. Shell work that out in therapy later on. Im sure. I never got the bright eyes. But, yeah. I really admire your relationship with katherine, too. Its just like a beautiful love story. Im lucky. Im a lucky man. She is great. She is fantastic. Such a devoted mom, just a wonderful person. Shes shes given me and jack so much. You see people in hollywood or people who have got like a lot of privilege and they end up raising kind of rotten kids. So i just want to ask her everything. Whatd you do . How did you not spoil them. How did you not ruin them . Does she ever say . Yeah, she does. She holds them accountable. When maria walks in the room, you stand up. Shes big on manners and shes big on accountability. And shes deeply rooted in her faith. And these are all things that i definitely want to take and implement in the rearing of our. Children. Well, i feel like youre such a great dad and a great husband. Ahh. But youre also just a lot of fun. You seem laidback, but i have a weird feeling youre kind of a perfectionist, is that right . My motto is perfect is good enough. Thats just how you roll. No, im not a perfectionist. I like 80 20. Dont settle for good enough 80 of the time. 80 of the time, get it as right as you can. And then periodically, you have to cut yourself some slack. And did you manifest this career . Did you always believe like one day, this would be you . Did you imagine this . I i always had belief in myself, yeah. I think that ive been driven, and you know, we didnt grow up with a whole lot.
