Taken action on nearly 12,000 cases. We know that this is an important moment for the residents of Alameda County who have just barely begun to see the work that we are doing and that we will continue to do to protect public safety. But as a recall election looms, critics say todays move is less about transparency and more about a last ditch effort to save the das job. When you get into this situation, you have to portray that youre actually doing your job and thats all shes doing, brenda grisham, leading the recall effort, says she wants to know how the data reflects efforts to hold criminals responsible and get justice for victims families. We want to know how many people have been charged, how many people have been convicted, and how many gun related crimes have there been. Those are details that the public really, really needs to know. County data doesnt currently break down how many convictions plea deals and other outcomes have come from cases. Those are figures the das office says theyre working to have ready by the end of the year. It doesnt exist at this time, as voters prepare to decide whether to oust her from office, price says the data shows the countys improving under her leadership. We have work to do, more work to do, but i do feel like we have made tremendous progress over the first year in oakland. Velena jones, nbc, bay area news. A fire in the Atlantic College in oakland left several people without homes. This is what it looked like from nbc bay areas sky ranger. Just above as firefighters arrived. The Apartment Building is located on sixth avenue and east eighth street, just about a block away from the college. Now, the flames did spread to that smaller house right next door. The final count is in for the Cinco De Mayo celebrations in the south bay. The city of san jose marked the day with two big parades and festivals, and in the wake of these celebrations, there were questions about how it went off. San jose Police Answered those questions today. Nbc bay areas Damian Trujillo explains. Several businesses along the parade route in East San Jose say they were impacted by the festivities, and San Jose Police say they would support another celebration again next year. This weekends celebrations drew thousands of people to san jose to see the colors and the traditions of Cinco De Mayo, which were all extremely successful, extremely well attended family events. San jose police say the official events were peaceful with no major incidents, but it was a different story in areas outside those festivities. We had officers who were getting bottles thrown at their vehicles and at them we had officers who had been assaulted. We had people driving drunk. We had one vehicle crashed into a patrol car and a double stabbing. Some of the numbers. Police made 17 felony arrests, impounded eight cars, seized six guns and issued 156 traffic tickets. We also had a lot of disruptive behavior that were not related to the event, and i want to make that very clear. Although they were in close proximity, they were not related to the event unlike last year when street and offramp shutdowns triggered a community uproar. Police say they havent heard any complaints this year. They credit early outreach and a Public Education campaign with king road closed off because of the parade. This year, the lucky seven supermarket had to rely on foot traffic. How did it go with sales . Si si llego bastante gente . Julia soto says the store was packed with customers, but they did have to deal with a few shoplifters and inebriated customers. Another store in the strip mall said it decided to close instead. Si pero la mejor un poquito de mas control. Soto says shed welcome another parade and festival again next year if there is a bit more security in place. Yeah. Estuvimos police say they look forward to being a part of next years celebrations again, not just enforcing the law, but also celebrating with the community in the south bay. Overnight israeli troops moved in, taking over the gaza side of the rafah Border Crossing with egypt closed that critical entry point for desperately needed humanitarian aid and dropping bombs just hours after warning people to leave the area, an israeli official telling nbc news this is not the start of a large scale rafah invasion, but rather a very limited operation aimed at putting pressure on hamas in ongoing negotiations for a cease fire and hostage release deal. Still ahead, big bucks in the bay where the bay area ranks on a new list of the worlds richest cities, and a life changing donation for a group of middle school students. How one nonprofit made the unforgettable gift come together. Im chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. What a big difference today from that cold and wet weekend. Look at the numbers here from 58 in santa rosa on saturday to 74 today, and things are going to continue to warm up the temperature trends here across the bay area going to the warmest stretch weve seen all year long. Look at this as we head into fridays forecast. All the way up to 88. A full look at these temperatures, plus the wind buildinin. G some perspective on why, thanks to a report on the richest cities in the world, it Shows New York City is the richest city in the world. Thats according to henley and partners, a uk based Consulting Group close behind new york, the bay area in the past decade, our millionaire population has gone up by 82. Following the bay area is tokyo, singapore and london. Economists say many of the wealthiest cities are in the u. S. Thats because of the surge in tech wealth and the rise in the stock market. No surprise there. All right. Tonight, our bay area proud story really sounds good. As in literally sounds good. Thats because its about the gift of music for a community that has gone through some really tough times. Garvin thomas joins us now with the story. Hi, garvin. Hey, janelle. Hey, jessica. You know the community were talking about is pajaro in monterey county, where they experienced a devastating flood last year. Now, the effects of the flooding are still being felt by many, and that includes a group of sixth graders who are supposed to be in middle school this year. But because that school isnt fully repaired, theyre spending their sixth grade year in their old elementary school. Not fun for them, which makes what one group of musicians did that much more meaningful. Dimitrios douros romance with guitars and guitar music began many years ago, and many miles away from his current home of santa cruz. My father always loved music, and we always heard it when i was in greece growing up, i heard it on the radio and that kind of stuff. I cant explain what it does for me. I can, i can tell you that i can listen to it 24 7, which explains why when dimitrios moved to northern california, he sought out others who shared his interest and discovered the south bay Guitar Society. Its a nonprofit that looks to promote classical and similar styles of guitar music. They hold concerts and open mic nights and offer master classes. For those just getting started. But last year, when demetrios saw what was happening in pajaro, he thought there was another way the group could share their passion for guitars and music and do something good at the same time. You see, when the Pajaro Middle School was damaged in the flood, everything including their musical instruments, was destroyed. Demetrios reached out to the School District almost immediately. The money was there , the need was there. It was just a matter of, oh, great thing with thought about it, because the need is there and we could we can meet it. This morning is sort of a special day for all of us. It took a few months to work out the logistics, but yesterday demetrios and Guitar Society president Josh Friedman came bearing the gift of 24 brand new guitars. One, two, 340 yeah, that was pretty good for two dozen very grateful sixth graders and their teachers. Denise phipps, gregs is the districts academic coordinator. So grateful. I mean, i heard about this and im like, wait, what . And its amazing to me that they reached out before anyone else. And so im really grateful for that. There are of course, many big problems that linger after the flood, making the road back to life as normal. Not an easy one, but thanks to the thoughtfulness and generosity of some music lovers, the future for these kids great is sounding better already. Hahaha and what a wonderful way to combine what youre passionate about with doing good. I always love it when those things come together in a story, and i see that in people. Its like, obviously the people of that Community Need a lot, you know, theres food. They lost their homes and all those things and those have to be dealt with. But if you can take what youre passionate about, like music and just share that, i just think its that much more meaningful. What a respite for the kids from all their troubles, to be able to lose themselves in music, right . Yeah. Music is so healing. Yeah, yeah. Thanks so much, garvin. Beautiful. Lets talk about our weather. Oh, wow. Quite the warm up just between yesterday and today. And its going to get even warmer. Yeah, were going to get close to 90 i know. Welcome back to by the way i had to say that. Thank you very much. Youre out for a little bit. Yes. Were back from back surgery i know. And youre making a remarkable recovery. We are happy for that healthy recovery. Thank you. You got it. And our temperatures here . Yes. Warming up. Some of the hottest weather here across the bay area. We have seen all year long. Let me show you more details on that. Plus some wind coming in in your microclimate forecast as we take it outside right now. You know, we had lots of blue sky today. Even if you were just out here for a little bit right now in walnut creek, 74 degrees and well hang on to 70 next couple of hours, then eventually down to some 60s later on tonight. Now we do not have any chances of rainfall coming our way all the way through this upcoming weekend because this area of High Pressure is really just putting its feet firmly here across the pacific, moving that storm track off to the north. But the one thing we are watching right now is this low pressure thats going to be developing towards the east of us, just because its so close to this High Pressure, its just going to help to kick up some wind here for parts of the bay area. I do want to get to that wind forecast, and we should start off and say itll elevate the fire danger a little bit. But thankfully we had that rainfall this past weekend and that is really helping us out with a lot of the vegetation, with a high water content at this point. So as you roll through tomorrow morning here winds out of the north 20 to 40mph. I really think the focus is some of the strongest wind gusts would be right up here towards the north bay. So that is 7 00 tomorrow morning on and off wind gusts here, strong at times, especially through the north bay mountains into thursday morning. And then as we head through thursday evening, that wind would start to come on down. So as we roll through tomorrow mornings forecast, with that warm up, beginning numbers will start off a little bit more comfortable out here. Lots of low to mid 50s and sunny skies. Its going to leave you down here to 55 in San Francisco, the east bay at 54 and temperatures for tomorrow. We are going to see it numbers back in the 80s. So this is just going to be some nice weather for us to thaw out after those 50s. This past weekend, 78 here in cupertino, low 80s from san jose down to gilroy. Lets move it over to the east bay. 81 martinez, 80, in hayward, 83, in antioch peninsula starting to warm it up a little bit here. I think its going to be Beautiful Day in Half Moon Bay 68 and you get out to redwood city will be at 80 up to San Francisco. Look at this. Seven seas here in downtown and through the mission and the marina, outer sunset, youre close to 70. Will be in the upper 60s and across the north bay. 82 here in napa. Low 80s as well. Novato and santa rosa. Now this trend is expected to continue right into this upcoming weekend. Were going to 88 on friday, 85 saturday. Well see some upper 70s and low 80s on sunday and really will stay with similar weather here through that next ten day forecast. So i think besides the wind, the only other thing that might start to cause your problems is your allergies. We still have oak, cedar and grasses right now in the high category, so just know that going into the next couple of days and maybe you can do what you do when those allergies start to flare up and youll be good to go on that 7day forecast. Here it is, 70, in San Francisco all the way through saturdays forecast that mothers day coming in with some incredible weather on sunday, 83 and sunny skies. So maybe take mom out to brunch. Theres going to be lots of outdoor seating, im sure getting set up for this upcoming weekend. That sounds perfect, right . Right. I like the idea. Outdoor dining . Yes. Thanks jeff. Yeah.
