Still ahead, an afternoon basketball game takes a frightening turn after a player collapses on the court. The quick action that helped save a mans life and the tool that thankfully was on hand. Plus, a lot of californians are making the switch to electric vehicles, but not everyone. The reason . Some are Still Holding on to their gas engines. Im chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. Great weather to start off the week, but we are looking at some wind increasing and also a late season storm. Ill show you the updated chances of some rainfall coming our way the pair lost consciousness, wasnt breathing, and thats when two off duty nurses who were in the stands jumped into action. Nbc bay areas Jodi Hernandez shows us what happened. It started as a friendly game of sunday hoops. Just, you know, two teams going at it on the basketball court. But the all out Sports League matchup in clayton took a scary turn when a player suddenly collapsed. When i seen him down, he did not look good. Off duty kaiser nurse doreen thrash was watching the game when it happened, and she immediately ran onto the court to help all of a sudden hes not breathing. I feel no pulse and we jumped right in and we started cpr. Another off duty nurse from john muir began chest compressions as thrash began mouth to mouth, but it was the gyms portable defibrillator that may have ultimately saved his life, followed by now. Shock delivered. Theres a button you press. I press the button. It shocked him right away. And right away he woke up his eyes opened and he was breathing. It was nice to see the community rally around this man, and i was rooting for him. We were all rooting for him. No captured it all on video. He was there to document the game, but captured a miracle instead. I wanted to give these people recognition and show that, you know, theres still humanity out there and people still care. They are heroes. People can make a difference. Were a community that came together. We were all there at the right place, at the right time to save him. The player gave a thumbs up as he was taken to the hospital by paramedics. Hes expected to recover. I felt elated, i felt elated, and i says, what a blessing, what a blessing. Yeah, i, i yeah, he is right. Theres no words for it. I pray that he continues to heal and i pray nothing like that ever happens to him again in clayton. Jodi hernandez nbc, bay area news. And what a blessing for the good samaritans. Thank you, jodi. In other news, california and the bay area in particular is leading the country when it comes to buying electric cars. But the latest surveys still show a series of concerns that are keeping many people from making the switch. According to the latest figures from the governors office, more than a quarter of all new cars sold last year in california were electric, and there is now one fast charging station for every five gas stations in the state. But the initial cost of a new ev is still keeping many people on the sidelines. So we looked into buying a used ev, and with hertz recently putting thousands of their evs onto the market, prices are coming down and experts note many Cash Incentives are still available, whether your income qualified or not. Every single californian in pge territory qualifies for a 1,000 rebate on a used ev, no matter which vehicle and no matter what your income is. The state survey also shows that most ev owners charge at home, and thats a problem for many apartment renters. But california recently approved a 1. 9 billion plan to build out its charging network. Rescuers are picking up the pieces after storms unleashed deadly tornadoes across the middle of the country. The storms hit on friday in the midwest and in texas. The tornadoes pummeled six different states, killing at least five people in iowa and oklahoma. Twisters also destroyed dozens of homes and businesses. Acceptance just playing in the next steps, i guess. You know, just trying to put together what we can and move forward and texas people are struggling to get through flooded streets, thousands of people across texas, louisiana and oklahoma are still without power. And it looks i looked at the Severe Weather outlook really tough as we head through the next two days. I know nebraska, kansas, oklahoma. Its just going to kind of stall out and continue that chance of some Severe Weather for them. Thats too bad. I know theres so much cleanup to still do. Okay, lets talk about our weather. Much more mild. We have a very nice and pleasant week ahead. Yeah, it looks really great. As we head through tomorrows forecast, we have some 70, eventually some 80. And then were going to be tracking some wind and even the chance of some rain. Yes late season rain coming up in my 7day forecast. Lets take you outside right now to that blue sky. And this just really helped us to get going on our monday. Didnt it . You have so much to do this week, a lot to look ahead towards. And this just kind of really helped to take maybe the edge off a little bit with this beautiful california weather right now, 68 degrees, a little bit of breeze out of the north northwest at 18. Well drop it down to 60 at 8 00 and some 50 later on tonight. Now were confident well continue with some dry weather tomorrow from this area of high pressure. Its going to keep the rain line right up towards the pacific northwest. But the way this is setting up, we do think well get some wind starting to come in here tomorrow and also for wednesday. And it will keep that warm weather in place. So lets go ahead and take a look at the wind here. I do want to get to that first and youll see as we head through tomorrow morning its ten to about 20mph. As we head through tomorrow afternoon and evening, we could see a little bit of wind starting to pop here near the coastal mountains and the north bay. Anywhere from 20 to about 40mph. But were really looking at some of the strongest gusts here. By wednesday morning, especially if youre doing traveling in the central valley, 50 plus miles per hour. And i really think on wednesday morning it would be the north bay focus here for some of the strongest gusts. 20 to 50 right there in napa would be about 30. And wed stay with some of these gusty winds on and off at times through wednesday afternoon. Then i see that wind certainly calming down here as we head through thursday forecast. So a little bit of wind to get through here. But overall temperatures going to be pretty comfortable. I think well have some nice conditions here to get you out the door tomorrow morning. Down in the 40s throughout the bay area. So a little bit of chill, but nothing we cant handle. 47 here for the south bay over to San Francisco 49 and for the north bay right there at 45 under mostly sunny skies. Look at these temperatures here in my forecast tomorrow right here across the south bay. Plenty of low to mid 70s. That will put us at 73 in san jose, 75 in gilroy over to the east bay. Up as warm as 77 in antioch 74 here in danville peninsula will get in on some 70s near palo alto. But really, once you head north of that and closer to the coast, that strong ocean breeze will keep us in the 50s and 60s. San francisco, 60 across the marina. And as we go across the north bay, lots of low to mid 70s. So we got a little bit of wind here to deal with through tomorrow. But by this weekend i want to fast forward things into a system were going to be tracking and this is complicated. I think really kind of the big headline from this is if the storm track moves just a little bit more to the south, were going to see some much higher rainfall totals with it. If it goes more off to the north, well see less in the way of rain. So the way that im putting it right now here for california, well have spotty rain chances to maybe the chance of some heavier pockets and temperatures certainly much colder as we look ahead towards this upcoming weekend. I can show you that here on the 7day forecast. By saturday, San Francisco down to 58 with some rain chances. Look at the inland valley forecast here from 81 wednesday, way down to 63 on saturday. So right now not wet all weekend and were going to know more as we get closer. Ill have updates also on our reservoirs coming up tonight at 530 okay. Looking forward to that. Thank you jeff.
