It is about a mile north of the Shopping Center where the cosco is. Emergency vehicles are still arriving on scene. No word on the cause of the fire or if any structures are threatened. Fire crews are telling us just minutes ago, it is about five acres right now that the smoke can be seen from around the area. Again, a brush fire in antioch. We will keep a close eye on this story. We are following the story with the United Airlines flight that lost a wheel. We are going to also hear from a passenger that was on the plane. How many books does it top just a bullet . They are worried about steph curry and his ankle injury. We begin with the crazy video out of San Francisco. A water main break caused water to shoot into the sky and it took quite some time for crews to shut it off and by then it had already created a mess. Lets bring in christie smith. Any word how this happened and what is the impact to People Living in the area . Right now they have the end of the street closed off and fencing up around where the water main break was and to keep people away from the hillside behind it we have seen people come by curious and trying to take a look. Some information was put out today saying that what it looks like it, an eight inch valve failed that was connected to a 60 inch water transmission line. Water service for neighbors was not impacted. This water was flowing straight up in the air and repairs are planned for it but the scope and schedule of all of that is still being determined. There is so much runoff from that water. What is the damage . We saw some water and mud. Trees fallen over. Is the neighborhood okay . Is it just a mess . Reporter right now what we are seeing from our Vantage Point is, essentially, it is a muddy mess that flows down from the hillside that is near some homes here. It goes down to basically a dog park in the area. That is pine lake park. The Parks Department posted on social media that pinelake and the parking lots are closed for cleanup and they will continue to assess the damage. Thank you for the update, christie smith. We are learning more about the United Airlines flight that lost a wheel as it took off from sfo yesterday. Passengers say they did not know anything was long until several minutes into the flight. Yesterday as United Airlines flight 75 took off headed for japan, the boeing 777 lost a wheel and it smashed a couple of cars down below parked in an employee parking lot at the end of the runway. The tire fell and came to rest in another lot damaging were vehicles there. Fortunately no one was hurt. Today we spoke with a passenger on the airplane who said they were told about the issue about 10 minutes after takeoff. The captain came on and the air Traffic Control guy said there was an issue and they were looking into it. A few minutes after that they told us that we lost a wheel. He spoke to was from japan. He was traveling there with a group from illinois. The cabin crew kept everyone, but they did get nervous when they noticed that the airplane was dumping fuel and they diverted to lax. The faa and ntsb are investigating. An unusual science project in contra costa county. A couple of high School Students and search for this answer. How many books does it take to stop a bullet . They are eighth graders at st. Patrick Catholic School in rodeo. They say they have really been impacted by all of the School Shootings that have taken place through the years and that it is a very scary reality that this generation of students and parents have to face. They say in active shooter drills they have been taught to lock the classroom door, turn off the lights, and hide in a corner so they got to thinking, what about the textbooks . Could they service some sort of protection . They set off to find out and they had to convince the administration that they should be allowed to do this because it could potentially be dangerous. The school did not want to do anything that would condone violence but they convinced them, and they got a trained firearms instructor to help them out. They went to a private range and they put books in a back pack and the instructor started firing away. What they found out is that it worked. How many books did it take . Reporter that is a good question. Their hypothesis is that it would take four 1 1 2 inch books but they were wrong. Their experiment found out that it takes just two books to stop a nine millimeter bullet from penetrating through the books. That is great protection. They said that the students could use it to cover their face. They could load their book backpack up with books to cover their face and their body. The project is called high impact and they are showing it at the contra costa science fair today and tomorrow. A panel of judges went there today and there are all kinds of very impressive science projects out there. They are absolutely hoping that they place in the science there and it is gaining attention. They will get results tomorrow morning and we wish them the best of luck. It is heartbreaking to find out how and why the came up with this idea but knowing that it is two and have textbooks is useful and could be lifesaving. By tonight if you are going to be out, youll be the first to see cloud cover everywhere but you will notice a lot of this storm system stays well to the north of the golden gate bridge. Not everyone will see a ton of rain. For the most part saturday will be dry and cloudy and when we get to sunday we do have this additional storm system and this will pack a punch with the winds as far as totals. Another Emergency Landing involving a united flight that took off from sfo about 30 minutes ago. It landed that lax and the flight tracking website flightaware said it took off bound for mexico city. It landed safely about 30 minutes ago in los angeles. We are looking to get more information about what triggered this Emergency Landing. We will bring you that when we get it. We continue to learn more about the wild flight from sfo yesterday. A flight lost a wheel in midair. You can see this well go right there. It got off and the wheel fell. We spoke with a passenger on board that flight and he told us about how they found until the crew handled the situation. Lets take you to San Francisco. Reporter eight seconds after flight 35 from sense for San Francisco to japan took off one of the wheels from the left rear landing gear fell off. It seemed like a routine takeoff at first.
