Thanks for joining us. The family of a murdered young woman feels blindsided. An assistant District Attorney recommended the parole board free her killer after serving 17 years for the crime. The family wants the governor to step in. Here is ian cole. Maxina danner was 17 and a softball player at Lincoln High School in San Francisco in 2004 when she was murdered. It stunned her High School Classmates and the entire city. Miller was convicted of Second Degree murder for beating, teasing and strangling maxi then dumping her body in mclaren park. He was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. Late last year, miller came up for parole asking to be released from san quentin. The family was caught off guard when the assistant District Attorney spoke in favor of millers parole. The reaction was one of utter shock. Jeremy is the brotherinlaw. The prosecutors recommendation to release miller was not what they wanted and they were told beforehand. To be honest we had no idea the could take a position they were in support of parole. Miller was granted parole after 17 years. Maxinas family expects he could be released as soon as next week. Now they are pleading with the only person who can overturn the ruling, the governor. A spokesperson for Governor Newsom told us if his Office Receives this case from the board of parole hearings it will be reviewed carefully. Brooke jenkins appears to have been surprised by her assistant d. A. S actions saying the parole hearing was not handled how we expect such matters to be handled. Each case up for parole review is thoroughly reviewed the requester has been rehabilitated and the victim or surviving family members are consulted before taking any position that did not happen in this case. The new protocols put into place should prevent a situation like this from happening again. The d. A. In question no longer works for her. The office is conducting another review of the case which we will submit to the governor. The family hopes it will help. My family is disappointed this happened. Particularly the d. A. S office is willing to come out and make this right. New job cuts to report tonight and its not intact. Its the u. S. Army. The army is reducing the size by about 24,000. The cuts will mainly be in already empty posts. That includes jobs related to counterinsurgency. Those numbers swelled during the iraq and afghanistan wars but are not needed as much today. 3000 of the cuts come from Army Special Operations forces. The army says its restructuring to be better able to fight the next major war as it struggles with recruiting shortfalls. Another layoff and thats coming from highprofile companies. Playstation is cutting jobs. Sony Interactive Entertainment is laying off about 900 people. Sony says that is 8 of its workforce. The company ceo says the layoffs are due in part to changes in the way the Company Develops distributes and launches products. In addition to layoffs playstation london studio is closing entirely. Im not organizing this. This is something lily and the Chinatown Community made happen. Doing any event is not cheap. Its very expensive. Im happy to say our grant is going to be able to facilitate the base operating cost for a years worth of night markets in chinatown. Those costs include permits, hiring people to set up, entertainment and cleanup. Participating members sold out. Some made more money in two nights than they usually make in a week. Theyll make more than 10,000. I think that is what we wow. A lot of people. Its really exciting. Everybody comes back to chinatown. Like back in the old day. We had storms the past couple weeks where we get a couple inches and one day. This really illustrates how we will be able to handle that water here across the bay area the way things look now. Thursday is a quarter to a half inch. Then friday specifics total. I see another quarter to maybe upwards of about three quarters of an inch throughout the bay area. On saturday we are in for another quarter to about three quarters from most of the bay area. Overall, we could see totals hitting a maximum of two inches during the duration. I dont see major flooding like over the last storms because of that threeday spin. That also is replicated here when we take a look. This is going to rise but not kidding close. This will be up to 16. 9 and you will see flooding is 32 feet. Thats based on the current timing. We get that rainfall returning on thursday. On and off chances into saturdays forecast. I see some wind but only maximum up to about 50 per hour for the elevation and those gusts will also be on and off as we had to friday and saturday. We make it into street flooding here where the drainage is poor but at this point we are not expecting the major flooding throughout the rivers. We are talking about antioch. Thieves have stolen at least 220 cars so far this year. That breaks down to 3 to 4 cars every day. In antioch.
