Fbi agents are surrounding a home in bowdoin, maine. Officers could repeatedly be heard saying, robert, come out with your hands up and several large bangs also heard. They dont know if hes actually inside that home. About 80 fbi agents along with other federal state and Police Agencies are searching for the suspect throughout the state. The 40yearold is accused of opening fire last night at a lewiston main Bowling Alley and then driving to a bar. At least 18 people dead and 13 others wounded. He had been in the guard for years. He was accused of shooting up a National Guard base. A relative of the suspects father said this caught him offguard. The cards are hardworking farming people and this whole thing is mindblowing. What makes this crime so heinous is in a typical year, maine might have 22 murders. Much of the entire state there of maine is being told to shelter in place. Businesses are closed, schools are closed, everyone and everything is on lockdown as this manhunt continues, renewed calls in congress for an end to gun violence. The offduty east bay pilot accused of trying to cut the airplanes engines midflight is in court today. Emerson was accused of trying to cut the engines on a flight to san francisco. Emerson was in the jump seat in the cockpit. The captain and first officer kept the engines from failing. He pleaded not guilty to 82 counts of Second Degree murder. Police say he admitted to taking psychedelic mushrooms before that flight. In a statement yesterday one of his lawyers said emerson was not under the influence of any substances on the plane. Today, he was charged with one federal count of interfering with flight crew members and attendants. We would like to reiterate he had no intention to harm himself or anybody on the airplane. Whats important here is to recognize how serious of an incident this was, the consequences of what could have happened and the fact is that these are very serious charges. The Police Department using millions of new state dollars to install automated license plate readers going up along major therefores and shopping centers. This played out a couple of weeks ago. But the Police Department says the expanded use of automatic license plate readers will provide a solution to understaffing and fears of retail merchants. The owner of this story, joyeria, a jewelry shop. Her store is one of the biggest shops in san jose in this shopping center. She says she has good reason to want the expanded use of license plate readers. Her store was the victim of these who rushed in and smashed through grass cases stealing thousands of dollars of valuable items. That was the most scary thing we went through. It was really fast, huh . It was really fast, yes, it was fast. There was no time to think or what to grab. We all here have weapons and stuff. There was not a chance to get them. After a year and a half dna evidence that wasnt available then proves his hunch elena was killed by this man who happened to be in sunnyvale at the time. He died in a colorado prison several years ago with a long criminal record to his name. It comes down to the tenacity of the investigators. I know that in the elena case that was just solved, Matt Hutchinson was one of the most tenacious dedicated detectives i know.
