The dmv found the cruise car stopped after hitting the pedestrian but then later attempted to pull over, dragging the pedestrian several feet. Investigators also accuse the company of misleading investigators by not disclosing the full video of the accident, saying footage of the subsequent movement of the av, autonomous vehicle, to perform a pullover maneuver was not shown to the department, and cruise did not disclose any Additional Movement of the vehicle had occurred after the initial stop of the vehicle. Cruise issued a Statement Today saying, shortly after the incident, our team proactively shared the information with the california dmv, cpuc, and nhtsa, including the full video. We have stayed in close contact with regulators to answer their questions. Cruise had an estimated 150 driverless taxis operating in the city during daytime. The big question in all of this has been, what prompted that offduty pilot that friends describe as friendly, familyoriented, and a rule follower, to try to shut off those engines with more than 80 people on board . And tonight it appears the suspect is admitting to all of it and giving a reason why. Today Joseph Emerson, dressed in blue, made his first appearance in a portland courtroom. He pled not guilty to 167 charges, including 83 counts of attempted murder. According to federal Court Documents, emerson admits to trying to turn off the planes engine after telling the pilots he was, quote, not okay. Well, its really sad news. I never would imagine. Reporter emerson was riding as a passenger in the cockpits third seat. Court documents go on to say the Pleasant Hill resident told police he thought he was, quote, dreaming and wanted to wake up. Investigators say he admitted to taking psychedelic mushrooms, something he claims hes never done before. They say emerson explained he was dealing with depression, had not slept in 40 hours, and thought he was having a nervous breakdown. I hope he gets the help he needs. I want him to have the medical and the psychological help that he needs, and i want that for the family too. I want them to have the support. Im hoping that all those charges, those horrible charges, go away because he clearly was not in his right mind at the time. Reporter the official incident report shows the offduty pilot was then sent to the back of the plane where he reportedly told a Flight Attendant, quote, you need to cuff me right now, or its going to be bad. Once restrained, investigators claim he tried to grab the emergency exit door handle before a Flight Attendant stopped him. Passenger aubrey gavelo saw emerson walk to the back of the plane. I made eye contact with him. It was one of those soulchilling like dead in the eyes. Reporter former president of nri flying club here in the east bay told us today offcamera that emerson was a chief Flight Instructor and former Safety Officer for the club at one time. Yee also believes Court Records that appear to show emerson admitting to wrongdoing show his true character. He was lucid enough to realize that things were going wrong in his head, and he could express himself and get people to take care of him. So that shows what kind of a good person he really is. At 10 45, oakland officers responded to reports of a shooting nearby. We cant say for certain that the shooting caused the crash, but it does appear the car had visible bullet holes. So far, opd has only confirmed that nobody was injured. Oakland is trying to take action to stop car breakins with a new Pilot Program that involves the people of oakland. Opd is asking people to share photos and information in real time when they see a burglary happening. This is the scene at Chabot Regional Park this morning. You see all those dead trees. They could become fuel if a fire broke out. So the parks district would normally pick up and ship the dead trees to sacramento for processing. Now it can manage it onsite with that big yellow machine you see called a carbonator. It incinerates logs and turns them into material called biochar. The Park District says it is using the biochar to manage erosion. Farmers use it to increase crop yields while using less water. There is a danger in always waiting for someday to do what youve always wanted to do. Thats the lesson an east bay School Librarian is teaching all of us. Its also a lesson he got not from a book but from his own life. This mans life has had its share of plot twists, like just how he became the primary librarian at harvey green elementary school. Reporter it means jun is walking with a cane now but will eventually need a wheelchair. Hes not sure when that will be, so hes setting out to do some things he always wanted to do while he still can. He signed up for the Honolulu Marathon this december, and next year hopes to fulfill a lifelong dream of climbing mount fuji. Many people say, i want to do this someday. And if you say someday, someday is always in the future. Youre never going to do it. So decide when you want to do it. Then you can plan. And so my message is dont say someday and start doing it. Jun wants to use his adventures to raise money for a cure so his son wont ever have to face what his father did. Thats now about the sixth storm system they have seen so far this season thats just nailed them. But the problem were getting into is the way this storm is going to drop down, its eventually going to move over the land tomorrow. So its going to lose a lot of its steam. Theres just not going to be a whole lot left. So definitely some colder air, the clouds tomorrow, and then a spotty chance of some showers. I can show you better on the shower chance and again tonight it looks impressive to the north. But here we go. Tomorrow morning, it starts to break up here over chico.
