[ cheers and applause seth as horrifying as it may be, the reality is that donald trump is currently the far and away frontrunner for the gop nomination for president in 2024. What does far and away mean . Well, hes ahead by roughly 21 points in the current 538 polling average against every other candidate combined if you voltroned the gop field into one super candidate, it would not be within shouting distance of donald trump, a man with the largest shouting radius in america whats that . If you voltron the gop field, what body parts would you take from each candidate . Its obvious mike pences im concerned but im not going to do anything face Ron Desantiss pudding scooping fingers. [ laughter ] and doug burgums glass eye. Did you know doug burgum has a glass eye . He doesnt but i didnt know anything about him so i made it up. Before today, i didnt know he was the governor of south dakota, which is okay because he is the governor of north dakota. [ laughter and applause but trump, the biggest frontrunner, who has ever run front has just been hit with more bad legal news. Another one of his codefendants just flipped on him. In a surprise move, former trump attorney, kenneth chesebro, pled guilty to a felony in the Georgia Election interference case and accepted a plea deal with prosecutors the harvardeducated lawyer has seen quite a fall in the last few years. Considered the legal architect of the plan to use fake electors to steal the election, chesebro now faces 100 hours of community service, five years of probation, a 5,000 fine, and perhaps most importantly, he will testify against the other codefendants, including donald trump seth you know how i know this is bad for trump, i dont remember who this guy is when i first saw his photo, i thought it was montana governor, doug burgum. Because, you see, when nutballs like Rudy Giuliani or mike lindell get in trouble, it just feels like thats part of the plan its been factored in. But when an anonymous, white collar, harvard guy goes down, and says hell cooperate with prosecutors, thats got to be when trump is thinking to himself, oh, no. Because if mike lindell or Rudy Giuliani ever flipped on trump and told the jury trump was guilty, trump would be found innocent by the first lunch break because theyre [ bleep ] nuts [ laughter ] i kind of think that was the whole game plan. Let those two hair dye addicted clowns scream and cry on tv while the quiet, buttoned up, harvard guy does all the real criming for you. But these buttonedup quiet type, the chesebros, if you will, are the ones who actually understand what went down. Hes a harvard educated lawyer with a long history in washington politics who might actually be able to explain to a jury where the bodies are buried as opposed to rudy, who looks like a guy who knows the best places to dig one up [ laughter ] i look for tombstones with fancy names. Theyre most likely to be wearing watches. [ light laughter ] before we move on, a lot of time was spent today on making a joke about how chesebro sounds like a line of cheesebased hasbro products [ laughter ] but it was decided that had nothing to do with this very Important News story, so we abandoned that we didnt want to waste your time by showing you what products they would make, products like barbury. [ laughter ] were better than that [ applause ] were better than that and more importantly, youre better than that [ laughter ] and this plea deal came one day after another plea deal that was bad for trump. Last week we told you that former trump lawyer Sidney Powell pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in their investigation in trumps attempt to overturn the 2020 Election Results in georgia you might recall powell from this recent mug shot where she looks like she just saw the video tape from the ring and she was on it. [ laughter ] or you might also remember powell from her star turn as one of the key witnesses in the january 6th hearing where she was asked about her conversations with President Trump in the runup to the coup attempt. In fact, you did get to see the president without an appointment . We did. In the short period of time that you had with the president , did he seem receptive to the presentation that you were making he was very interested in hearing particularly about the finding and the terms of 13848 that apparently nobody else had bothered to inform him of [ laughter ] seth god bless the video editor who decided to leave in that long beat of powell downing her diet dr. Pepper. Nothing tells you that a person is out of theyre [ bleep ] mind faster than seeing them chug a diet dr. Pepper. I dont even know where to find diet dr. Pepper. I think you have to buy a soda machine from an antiques dealer and pry the back off with a crowbar. [ light laughter ] you know, when that tape first surfaced, we had our fun making jokes about diet dr. Pepper being a terrible soda, but i had never tried it and i want to let everyone know that since then i had one. One. [ laughter ] now, just as a reminder of her role in the attempt to overturn the election, here is a quick recap of some of the crazy [ bleep ] she was saying at the time as a member of Donald Trumps legal team. Its been organized and conducted with the help of Silicon Valley people, the big tech companies, the social Media Companies and even the Media Companies. What we are really dealing with here and uncovering more by the day is the massive influence of communist money through venezuela, cuba and likely china in the interference with our elections here in the United States. Seth in fact, we can prove cuba and venezuela were involved in the election because their signs were everywhere. [ laughter ] rudy, can you wipe your face quieter . [ laughter and applause i guess the better question for powell would have been, who wasnt involved in the conspiracy to steal the election . Big tech companies, social Media Companies, Home Furnishing companies, all the major sports leagues, the airlines, every steak house in new york city, chilis, both the country, the restaurant and the temperature [ laughter ] and all the major soda brands excluding diet dr. Pepper because no one in their right mind would consider that monstrosity a soda [ laughter ] [ cheers and applause in that same interview with the january 6th committee, powell also confirmed that trump at one point tried to appoint her special counsel to investigate the 2020 election. On friday he had asked me to be special counsel to address the election issues. He asked Pat Cipollone if he had the authority to name me special counsel. And he said, yes. And then he asked him if he had the authority to give me whatever security clearance i needed and Pat Cipollone said, yes. And then the president said, okay. You know, im naming her that and im giving her security clearance. Seth can you imagine this lunatic with security clearance . I wouldnt clear her for a costco card. [ laughter ] oh, thats where she gets the diet dr. Pepper. [ laughter and applause i buy it by the pallet. Anyway, last week we found out that powell had pleaded guilty in the criminal case over trumps attempt to overturn the Election Results in georgia. And then on sunday, trump claimed he actually has nothing to do with Sidney Powell trump is responding to two of his allies who flipped on him, taking plea deals in the Georgia Election interference case trump tried to distance himself from Campaign LawyerSidney Powell, writing on truth social, ms. Powell was not my attorney and never was. Seth and another thing, i dont know who the hell this melania lady is. [ laughter ] she was not and has never been my wife. I mean, look at us do we look like a couple [ laughter ] talk about chilis. Obviously very [ laughter ] [ cheers and applause i mean, not today but years from now theyll look back and be like, oh, that was good. [ laughter ] obviously there are a couple problems with this claim first of all, as we just told you, powell and others confirmed in sworn testimony that she was in the oval office with trump where he tried to name her special counsel with security clearance to investigate the 2020 election. Second, at that Infamous Press conference, rudy told the assembled media that powell was part of trumps legal team thank you very much for coming this is representative of our legal team, were representing President Trump and were representing the trump campaign. When i finish, Sidney Powell and then and then jenna ellis will follow me seth trumps only defense here is that Rudy Giuliani is untrustworthy, which is true, but then it applies to everything including the Election Fraud claims. You cant have it both ways. That rudy guy is out of his [ bleep ] mind you cant trust a word he says except on china and hugo chavez. [ laughter ] teaming up with your minion and big tech to steal the election, its weird because on that hes right on the money usually crazy. [ light laughter ] and then of course theres one more small problem with trumps claim, that powell was never his attorney in november of 2020 trump said that powell was his attorney the president wrote, i look forward to mayor giulianis spearheading the legal effort to defend our right to free and Fair ElectionsRudy Giuliani, Joseph Digenova, victoria toensing, Sidney Powell and jenna ellis, a truly great team added to our other wonderful lawyers and representatives. Seth its like oceans eleven if they were trying to give 160 million to a casino. Okay, rudy. Lets go over the plan one more time blackjack . Always hit on 20. Roulette . Put it all on yellow. Craps . Eat the dice. [ laughter ] fun fact, most of that legal team has now been indicted if you did a where are they now . The answer for almost all of them would be facing charges, except for Joseph Digenova who would be, from the looks of him, getting thrown off a jetblue flight for trying to sneak in his own marinara sauce [ laughter ] digenova used to be one of our favorite trump side characters because he looks like the uncle who complains about the portions at a Staten Island wedding you know for the price this thing cost, you think they wouldnt skimp on the prosciutt. [ laughter ] but, hey, maybe im not joey digenova. [ laughter ] but hes not really around anymore, which is good for the world but sad for us but, you know, when i miss him, i can put on an old episode of nypd blue. [ laughter and applause here is one more piece of evidence that powell has a direct connection to trump and his attempts to overturn the 2020 election. She said it herself in an interview with an Australian News program two years ago how did you come to be involved in the election effort, post the election . I wish i knew [ laughter ] it was like this huge tsunami hit us i was in the area at the time. I had worked with mr. Giuliani for a few days before on another matter and the next thing i know im smack in the middle of it. Did you already have a relationship with President Trump . Yes, i did have a relationship with President Trump. What was your relationship with trump did he trust you i believe he did trust me and had you been much in the oval office . Yes, i had been there a number of times. Seth i like how she was just in the area and then ended up in the oval office with the president of the United States like she broke off from her tour group to answer a text [ laughter ] hey, has anyone seen aunt sidney . Yeah, she was pulled away by a gnome whose head was leaking. [ laughter ] should we tell the police . No . [ light laughter ] trump thinks that just because he never pays his lawyers that means they werent his lawyers, but sadly they were. They were his accomplices with direct knowledge of his criminal scheme to dismantle american democracy and now theyve pleaded guilty and agreed to cooperate with prosecutors it doesnt matter if theyre harvard educated, white collar lawyers or weirdos who drink diet dr. Seth i didnt know if it would work when we first started doing it i was almost sure it wouldnt yeah, very, very pleasant surprise that it turned out people seemed to like it, even if i did wonder some people pathological interest. Oh, wow, lets just see what these five lab rats do when they talk to each other seth or talk over each other some cases absolutely. Yes. Seth my favorite thing about the podcast was and i should say we should both shout out, weve talked a lot jimmy fallon hosted episode 5. Its a masterpiece. Seth its a masterpiece. Its genuinely [ applause ] so grateful to him. I am so grateful to him for what he gave us i needed those laughs so much at that point and only he could provide it seth yeah. Its just perfect seth it was a very poorly run and yet because of that exceptionally funny newlywed game where fallon texted our wives. But we did find out super fun things about our wives, including that the angriest you ever were with your wife was when you went to a piratethemed party. Yeah. Seth piratethemed party yeah, because i dressed like a pirate seth yeah. And we were there first and i remember the host of the party not really being dressed like a pirate and thinking, oh, thats a shame but at least theres lots of pirates coming [ laughter ] then another couple turn up, very much not piratebased and im getting a sinking feeling in my stomach saying the third one will be the key here not dressed like a pirate. And i really was dressed like very much like a pirate. Seth yeah. So i spent a pretty angry afternoon and evening dressed like a pirate among nonpirates. [ light laughter ] seth now, i also want to stressed, i want to say even if everybody dress liked a pirate, im going out on a limb and say you would have hated that. Yes seth yeah. The evening was not going to go great for me, but at least i wanted to be able to be among other pirates. [ laughter ] i really wasnt. I was among people dressed in kind of casual wear. Seth and theres a photo of you and your wife. I do want to note, shes having a grand old time and youre the unhappiest ive ever seen a pirate [ light laughter ] now, you say that you say that i would say i would say a pirate on a pirate ship would look that unhappy if none of the other pirates were dressed like pirates. [ laughter ] seth if it was like casual friday on pirates of the caribbean. Thats right. Exactly. Hey, guys, guys, you have to let me know. I pirated up over here you cant hang me up to dry like this arrr [ light laughter ] seth also i will say an eye patch is even funnier when the pirate is wearing glasses. [ laughter ] that is that is such a if youre wondering, how is an eye patch more comfortable over the glasses or under the glasses. Its a coin flip you just have to rotate. Neither is good. [ laughter ] seth well, it does feel like kates goatee is also an eye patch. Yes, thats right [ light laughter ] seth it does feel like you bought a thing of eye patches and youre like, we go to use them all whether it makes sense or not. Thats right. Yeah, thats right also, i just think she could get away with it more than me. I dont know if its the belt. If its to part the caribbean wig seth everyone who has seen this photo thinks that [ laughter ] also, im gonna Say Something that you guys might not have caught kate makes a great pirate. Seth you did an incredible job. It must be thrilling to get people like that to do this very singular piece of work sure. Thats a nice way to say crazy [ laughter ] seth its so it is deeply crazy. Nathan lane, whos done so many crazy things yes seth basically said its the craziest thing hes ever done mmhm a badge of honor to hear that from daddy, yeah [ laughter ] yeah, truly we wear that with pride. Seth so this is a show you guys used to do on stage at ucb. Yes thats true seth and i dont i dont want to give too much of the plot away, but it is sort of a parent traptype film. Its true were using the parent trap as a device, because, um, its really one of the oldest story structures we have theres, like, romeo and juliet, the odyssey, and the parent trap. [ laughter ] seth yes those are sort of accepted therative modalities and you can see from that clip, were sort of were playing heterosexual men. Seth yes but we are not heterosexual men. Were not [ laughter ] seth yeah. So its actually very brave seth yes [ laughter ] [ cheers and applause yeah, thank you seth i in fact, the opening of the film, i just in youre not breaking news here, because i believe the opening of the film has a title card saying how brave it is. Yeah, we want oscars bad. Yeah. And this is how you win an oscar. Yeah. Seth i believe you say its the first film ever written by a gay writer yes i know your show has researchers, we dont. [ laughter ] so if that is wrong, dont tell its not on us. Its not on us. How do we do playing straights yeah. Seth oh, my god, its so believable really . It feel lived in . [ laughter ] seth it felt very it felt very great, thank you. It was so nice to see finally, its like, see myself represented. Yeah, totally [ laughter ] seth you know what i mean . I know. I lived as straight for, like, 18 years, so it was method, the work i had done. [ laughter ] seth it showed up. It really showed up on screen. You called them big [ bleep ] ladies, right right seth we do thats an industry term thats an industry term seth we do industry the fellas, i mean you of the many things you had to do, you actually wrote a rap and then had to send the lyrics yes yeah. Seth to megan thee stallion. Shes shes rapped before. Yeah. [ laughter ] shes rather good at it. Rather good at it. Seth a lot of people say its one of the things shes known for. Yeah. I would say top four or five things [ laughter ] yeah. But then our gay asses wrote a bunch of words, and were like, she wont say them. And then she rapped every single one of those words theres like theres amazing footage of josh just like, rapping it into a cell phone to like, send to her manager. And then she just listened to that rap and was like, great, ill do it. And when she showed up on set, she was like we were rehearsing shes like, i just want to say, people say im dirty, but yall are dirty. [ laughter ] profound badge of honor to have miss thee stallion say, you have done me right. Seth yeah. This is dirty. Seth do you have trepidation when you send when you record a rap . Well, i was told it would just go to her manager and not her. Yeah. So i was hoodwinked and then she showed up and was like, you got bars, young man. Yeah. [ laughter ] seth what did you think would did you think the manager would then rap it to her i dont know what i thought i thought it was just like really, we kind of expecting her to be to say no yes at every point i was like, someone will hear this and go, shes out. she cant possibly seth its really wonderful, because and, you know, its very early, but when she shows up, she shows up with an energy where shes like, i am game i am in on this. She is so cool. She was i mean, she was amazing. Seth and, now, nathan lane talked about his scene partners are the sewer boys uhhuh. Uhhuh, right seth i dont want to give too much away for about the sewer boys but he did bring them on the show uhhuh. Yeah. Seth the sewer boys are sort of a a subterranean [ laughter ] creatures that he adopted theyre so pretty seth and keeps in his apartment. So beautiful and also pretty. Seth yeah. Gorgeous. Can i correct the record . Everyone, including on this program has called them puppets. Seth right these are actors that we cast these are actors, yeah. [ laughter ] they came in they auditioned for the role they just brought something to it seth the did great we so nathan brought em to the show, and then they actually stuck around our offices and just yeah. See, they work hard [ laughter ] hire them for admin hire them for admin or for acting seth theyre so good at admin, though. Theyre so they are, they are. We read we read chalamet for them yeah, jennifer lopez. Jennifer lopez. [ laughter ] seth chalamet came in for a sewer boy . Yeah. Seth and he didnt get it . This close. Seth oh. Had the authenticity. Seth he is very good yeah. We read fallon seth oh, really . Hes mad, thats why were here seth oh, thats why youre here [ laughter ] theres some really so because, again, parent trap, you then you then switch wigs well, you switch hair. So its wigs yeah. Seth and, um, and theyre even i will say, like, even nathans character points out that the the wigs, it looks like a cheap wig yeah. Seth it does not feel like you maybe spent a ton of money on wigs in this film here you guys are with opposite hair this is the wigs. [ laughter ] so it seth now i know this is both look, this is a [ laughter ] wait, can we even tell that that was us . Could you even who is who . Seth now, when did you it is very funny, because obviously the first time you guys see each other in the movie youre taken aback by how you look identical to one another. Identical do you remember the day when, as, you know, young improvisers, you first came up with the idea of like, wouldnt it be funny if we had this as the jumping off point . Yeah. We were like, for sure this will one day become a movie. Seth yes [ laughter ] this is the normal, like, how most movies are made they you do them in the basement of a grocery store. Yeah. And then thats kramer vs. Kramer. Yeah, that one started that way. [ laughter ] seth did have your parents seen the film . They have they have seth okay, and theyre, like, very lovely southern people who youd think wouldnt like this, and they love it. Seth thats great. And i think furthermore, they love that we have health insurance. Seth thats great. [ laughter ] so i think that is like [ cheers and applause seth you guys deserve it and i also want to note that the sewer boys, which we, you know, we had here, and we returned to a24 which which made the film you wanted to keep them. Oh, yes so the last day of filming everyone keeps calling them grotesque. We find them to be beautiful i dont see that. I dont see that. [ laughter ] and the last day of filming we had this whole plan, were like, were going to steal the puppets so we can keep them. A24 caught us. Theyre like, you cannot do that we need them for reshoots. They might one day go on seth. Seth right and then but they said, we promise you, when this movie cycle is done, you will get them no one [ bleep ] wants them but you. [ laughter ] seth well, its nice to know theyre finally going to end up in a loving home when they were doing admin yes theyre our assistants now seth guys, congratulations thank you seth it is so much fun to watch a film [ cheers and applause unlike anything i have ever seen thank you seth it so great to have you both thank you, thank you.
