Quick question, will all this stuff fit in your car . should i get rid of the mug . Bmo turning now to our climate in crisis, the colder months approaching and Noaas Climate Prediction Center has its winter outlook. Vianey arana to break it down for us. You got to take a look at it. Whats it showing when it comes to temperatures and rain chances . Whenever were heading into winter, those are the two biggest impacts we have is how are the storms looking, are they lining up . Its important to note when the Climate Prediction Center releases the longrange outlooks, its a longrange outlook. Its not a guarantee this will happen, its taking an average of what had played out previously and what could happen the next three months. So far temperature wise for noaa it is leaning above average for the month of december, january, february, as far as temperatures go. So you can see here the color index. We have a lot of that dark orange which puts us above average. As far as the rain goes, which i know big rainmaker, i mean, at one point we had no rain and then its almost like, okay, whats going to happen now . Its leaning to above average as well for the month of december, january and february. You can see the green across the bay area. But this could play out in different scenarios, right . Something weve seen play out before where noah released a longrange outlook and it was quite different. What ended up happening once the actual forecast came true for the three months. So the past year weve seen this, some very dry years, and then the next year we get all these storms, talk to us about how Climate Change plays into that. Thats a great question because Climate Change has shown to impact our winter months. And i want to talk about that. Lets talk about warmer air. Above average temperatures, this will bring warmer air in. You may be thinking thats not a lot. Every one degree fahrenheit increase amounts to 4 more water vapor. That will boost the moisture in the storm cells and will bring heavier snow, heavier rain, stronger storms, the atmospheric rivers. Last year we had over 30 in just a span of three weeks. The warmer air definitely impacts how the storms will play out, the intensity and the timing. As far as the rain goes, this is a separate study from the Climate Prediction Center outlook, did show, if you notice, the average of the total during the winter, california pretty wet, over 50 of the rain typically happens during the winter months. There was a breakdown by season. Winter is about 50 . We rely on that not just for drought purposes. The agriculture, farmers can rely on too much rain or too little rain. We do tend to see a couple storms over 25 and decreases by summer and fall. Its becoming harder and harder to actually showcase a longrange outlook that is somewhat reliable because of all of the factors that go into it. All right. Its constantly changing. Vianey, thank you.
