So Early Saturday Morning youll definitely get that fall feel with the cloudiness, and then the shower chances moving into San Francisco as well. Now, spreading this out through about 11 30, 12 00, youll notice the majority of this is focused offshore and to the north. But heading into the next 24 hours youre going to notice a slight shift in not only the temperatures, but also how our skies are looking, with the arrival of a cold front. Right now novato is the only spot cooler, but a 5 degree difference. Your temperature trend for this afternoon, well get sunshine through about 9 00 a. M. , and then by 11 00, 12 00, those high clouds start to roll in and the temperatures will, once again, remain in the upper 70s for a lot of the bay area. Now, zooming out, as i mentioned the system, you can see it right off the pacific. We do have a cold front beginning to develop, and well talk more about that in just a few minutes. Lets check in with mike. Were looking at southbound 880, just across from the coliseum complex. Folks are funneling to the left, one lane blocked, including part of the offramp. The offramp at hegenberger is open. A mild slowdown, theyre still working on an early crash. No major injuries. This hopefully will clear up over the next half hour, but chp did not give us an estimate. Its friday, so a later build to the commute. Ill talk about the closure on highway 101 over the weekend coming up in my next report. We start with breaking news and the end of a bitter bay area labor battle. Kaiser workers who walked off the job last week are announcing a new contract deal. The Union Message says Front Line Health Care workers have reached a tentative agreement with kaiser. Now, some 75,000 kaiser employees nationwide walked off the job for three days, many based in northern california. It was the largest ever Health Care Strike in u. S. History. There is still no word on the terms of the deal or the timeline for ratification. Now to breaking news we continue to follow in the middle east, israel is ordering the evacuation of more than 1 million palestinians in the northern part of gaza, and according to our calculations, they now have a little more than 12 hours. We have a live look in gaza city, which is included in that order. The u. N. Already says there is no way to evacuate that many people in such a short period of time. The number of confirmed deaths on both sides now tops 2,700. Meantime, across the u. S. , Law Enforcement agencies are increasing patrols, after a former hamas leader called for today to be a global day of anger. Today in the bays bob redell is live in the east bay. Bob, do we know of any Credible Threats of violence at this point . Reporter good morning to you, laura and ginger. Fortunately, no, we have no reports of threats against the congregation behind me in pleasanton or any other congregation locations, synagogues throughout the bay area. This was the scene last night in los gatos. This was at the addisonpenzak Jewish Community center, where the congregation came together to pray for peace after this call for a day of anger. Law enforcement here in the bay area is aware of and on alert for this potential threat, while in new york city all officers have been ordered to show up to work today just in case. We want to be clear, however, these calls for a day of anger have historically yielded large demonstrations in the middle east, but no largescale attacks in the United States. They felt like it wasnt enough, what they have done, and they keep on pushing any potential human boundary that you can think, and at the same time i am super proud that our Community Gathers today, that we didnt suspend it. Theyre not going to win or beat us. Our Police Department is doing a tremendous job of monitoring the situation and acting with community leaders, being out and engaged in the community, visiting synagogues, jewish schools, and theyre going to continue to be very visible and active in the community tomorrow, but Going Forward were going to take care of our jewish neighbors. Reporter that was san jose mayor matt mahan. He attended last nights service in los gatos. Sfpd says, quote, we ask the community to alert the sfpd if they see any potential threats or suspicious behavior. At this time, we do not have information of any imminent threats of violence. On a statewide level, the California Office of Emergency Management said in a statement in part, quote, while we are aware of statements made about potential threats for today, friday the 13th, october 13th, i want to emphasize that no specific and credible threat to california has been identified at this time. Reporting live here in pleasanton, bob redell, today in the bay. Hopefully it stays that way. Thanks a lot, bob. With commercial airlines still avoiding the war zone, the white house is now forming its own plans to bring stranded americans home. We have a live look at sfo this morning. The u. S. Government is planning to use charter planes to fly americans out of israel, but theyll still have to find connecting flights to their home airports. Among those anxious to get home, our own colleague, photojournalist Edwin Alvarado who we spoke with again last night. We head to the airport, we have to sign a waiver saying that we have to pay the country back the money, you know, the ticket. I feel a little frustrated because last wednesday some countries with less resources, the they sent planes to get people out. The United States has so many resources, and the only help we are getting is a ticket to a different country. From there, we have to figure out how to get home. The state Department Says flights will only operate to locations in europe, but thats where commercial flights will be available for travelers to ultimately return to their home airports. Another live look in gaza. Stay with us for the latest developments. Were keeping an eye on the situation constantly. Our website is another great resource for updates as well. On to some sports news now, where the 49ers are shooting for 60 to start the season sunday in cleveland. Theyll be facing one of the leagues best defenses. The browns actually have the nfls topranked defense in terms of yards allowed. Niners quarterback brock purdy is expecting a pretty good challenge. Theyre, i think, one of the best in the league and a really talented group. Im excited to go against them. And the niners may have gotten another key bit of news, all reports indicate browns starting quarterback, deshaun watson, will miss his Third Straight game due to an injury. Their backup qb is a rookie, and lets just say not all rookies play like brock purdy did. Of course, the niners fans think he did a good job. Vianey arana is looking at the weather conditions when they take the field. They have been dealing with shower activity, rain as well, and theyre expecting that through today, saturday. What about sunday . Thats important. It is an open stadium. It looks like the timing of the storm is going to fall right before the game and then after the game. So before 2 00 a. M. And then after 2 00 p. M. So we could be okay. As far as delays, im not sure if theyll delay it as far as the wet conditions as the saturday storm moves through. But overall, 59 degrees. I think this is comfortable weather. Theyll have some cloudiness out there. Well just have to watch and monitor to see hopefully the storm system does make its way out before the game. Lets look at the napa weekend forecast. That system weve been talking about locally in the bay area is going to be making its approach starting tonight, and the impacts will move in saturday, especially early morning. The good news, its not going to stick around all weekend. Its going to be very little and its going to move out quickly. By sunday, well be in the upper 70s, and guess what happens, even though we cooled off a little bit . We start to warm right back up. We go from a cooling trend back to a warming trend. But on monday we are monitoring a system thats going to bring a 15 chance of showers. So very low chance there. We do want to make note of that because were monitoring whats happening in the pacific. And were talking about the partial eclipse. Ill go into more detail in a few minutes. Lets check in with mike. Were looking at the road ahead. First of all, traffic is moving well except for the crash in oakland. A little slowing south past the coliseum. Over here on the peninsula side, this is just at highway 84, university, but also known as woodside, thats another section on the other side of the freeway right here. Signs around the bay are talking about a full closure, and that starts tonight, as early as 9 00 p. M. Probably for the onramps, getting onto northbound 101 and this section from whipple to brittan will be closed. Alternates are pretty easy, el camino, surface streets will be crowded. If youre leaving the south bay and heading north, youll use 280, an easy way to get out of the south bay. 280 will be open all weekend. If youre heading to the east bay, instead of taking the san mateo bridge, use the dumbarton bridge because that will keep you clear of the construction and the backup through the area just north of highway 84. Another option is if youre far enough south, take 238 to milpitas and then travel north. Those who use this regularly know this area is congested over the weekends. Back to you. Thank you very much. Secretary of defense lloyd austin is on his way to israel. Scott mcgrew, secretary of state blinken is meeting with arab states on what may be the eve of a major invasion of gaza. Thats exactly right. Good morning. A massive battle, perhaps, coming this weekend. Our chief diplomat, secretary of state, met with israelis yesterday, jordan right now, qatar, saudi arabia all later today. We expect him to visit egypt as well. Video just into our newsroom with the secretary of state meeting with the Palestinian Authority abbas. America and israel want to keep west Bank Palestinians out of the fight. The boss is part of the old plo that accepts israel, and abbas is not hamas. It is worth reading up, reminding ourselves about the differences between fatah, hezbollah, in order to understand whats factual. Case in point, there was a lot of talk about hamas using the 6 billion in unfrozen iranian money. Thats not true. That money was never distributed. And now, apparently, it wont be. America and qatar have cut off irans access. Iran supports hamas, but blinken tells our lester holt theres no evidence iran had any involvement in the attacks. Iran has had a long relationship with hamas, hamas wouldnt be hamas without the support over many, many years from iran. When it comes to this specific attack in this moment, we dont have direct evidence that iran was involved in the attack in planning it or carrying it out, but that could change. Back here in america, we have absolutely no idea whats going to happen next at the capitol as the u. S. House searches for a leader. Congressman steve scalise, the republicans caucus choice for the next speaker of the house, says he wont be the next speaker of the house, which means the house continues to be paralyzed. It cannot pass a law, it cannot fund israel, it cannot fund the government, it cannot name a post office until it has a speaker. This country is counting on us to come back together. This house of representatives needs a speaker and we need to open up the house again. But, clearly, not everybody is there, and theres still schisms that have to get resolved. Im thoroughly disappointed in the process and i just pray to god that we find something. Something. There is something, but here is the conundrum is republicans have gotten themselves into. There are 217 republicans in the house. That means any republican candidate for speaker can only afford to lose four of his own partys votes to become speaker if every other republican votes for him, or he could find the votes somewhere else. He could find them here, the democrats. A republican speaker could make a deal with democrats to get the vote, but it would mean he or she would have to give something to democrats in exchange. Two things to watch for this weekend. Obviously, what appears to be an imminent attack on gaza as israel urges more than a Million People to move south away from the battle, and the polls go to the pols on sunday. Very comfortable afternoon for this friday. 77 degrees in san jose, 66 in San Francisco, and then your sevenday forecast is going to be interesting, because once that cold front moves out, that shower chance stays primarily to the north, we go back into a warming and drying trend. Wednesday, thursday, 71 degrees for San Francisco, and look at that, 89 degrees, with a possibility of 90s, heading into next week. Mike, how are those roads . Good news. Light traffic.
