Launching air strikes at targets across the region and gathering 300,000 troops ahead of a possible Ground Invasion. This all comes amid a new warning from hamas, now threatening to start executing hostages in response to israels bombing campaign. And u. S. Officials say it is likely that some americans are among those kidnapped. 11 americans are now confirmed among the dead after this weekends attacks. The white house bathed in colors of the israeli flag overnight. The president set to speak about the attacks later this afternoon. We will start with Richard Engel on the ground inside israel. Richard, good morning. Reporter good morning. We are now on day four of this war, and israels main priority right now, before any potential ground assault of gaza, is securing israeli territory. We are now in a kibbutz right next to the border of gaza. In fact, the hamas militants breached this kibbutzs fence right behind me here where those soldiers are and went through this Community Going house to house, killing people, kidnapping people. We have seen so many of those golf carts where hostages were brought back into the gaza strip, a lot of those golf carts were taken from here and other communities like it. Israelis believe that there are still dozens of bodies. And we have seen Israeli Soldiers going through this area with bodies, going house to house, searching for victims. There are also many hamas bodies in this area. So for now, according to israeli media, about 900 israelis have been killed. But that number is expect to go up as they continue to search and secure this area and other Communities Just like it. Reporter israel is changing the skyline of the gaza strip. Flattening it. Medical officials in gaza say more than 700 palestinians have been killed. Israel has also cutoff gaza completely. No power, food and water allowed in. Its a total siege. The Israeli Government says the goal is to crush hamas and drive the militant group from power. Israel has told gazaen to seek shelter and protect themselves. But where can they go . In a region sealed off. And this war now in its fourth day could get more intense. This morning Israeli Military vehicles are lined up outside of gaza, ready for a potential ground assault. On saturday, hamas launched an unprecedented attack, sending more than a thousand fighters into israel. Hamas says it prepared for this for over a year and this morning released a video which the group ended and blurred showing its fighters, practicing, blowing up security fences around the strip. Israelis have been collecting dash camera and cctv footage to understand how hamas fighters attacked. Laying in wait for a car to open the gate, shooting the driver and then slipping in. The driver still manages to keep moving until more shots come in and the vehicle loses control and crashes. U. S. Officials say americans are among the dead and missing, possibly taken hostage. Hamas is now threatening to kill hostages and film the executions unless israel stops attacks on civilians in gaza. Also horrific, richard. Okay. But they have been relatively small in scale. So there is that potential. But at this stage, it does seem to be contained. People honoring the lives lost in hamas attacks on israel. It started out as a somber and emotional evening when chaos and panic began to ensue. According to university police, when someone had fainted and people were calling 911, that was a misunderstanding, according to police, sending the crowd running, fleeing. You can see the stampede and the chaotic moments playing out. There were roughly 20 people injured in the stampede according to an area hospital, all minor injuries. Police underscoring that the incident was an accident. But it does speak to just how many Jewish Americans are on edge in light of the violence. In fact, just yesterday, i was interviewing someone wearing a yam ka, addressing the ripple effects when the man came up and yelled a expletive israel in his face. We know that police are ramping up patrols at houses of worship, at synagogues across the country. We have seen an increased Police Presence at rallies, at times competing rallies here in new york, chicago, los angeles, proisrael rallies, propalestinian rallies as they continue to play out. And emotions, understandably, running high. So many people here in the u. S. With loved ones, people they know over in the war torn region. And now some people are having to bid farewell to loved ones going to fight in israel, including celine, my mom, who just gave an emotional farewell to her younger brother at l. A. X. , who is going to fight. She says that she is proud of him but understandably fearful for his safety. Good morning, savannah this hospital, whats going on around me is people who were donating blood they have been doing it in the beginning of the hostilities were told over 2,000 people have stood in line that stretched outside this facility and the area behind me where theyre actually giving blood. They have treated a number of people injured in the attacks. This is the largest hospital in israel, telaviv hospital. And many of the people here expect that things will get worse before they get better the hospital has met its needs, immediate needs right now for blood. There is fear this could get worse and could be prolonged. And, lester, i know you have been talking to people who are victims, who have suffered what have they told you . Reporter i have heard incredible stories of heroism as well as loss i spoke to an American Mother who has Seven Members of her family who are missing right now. One of them a little boy was actually video taped as he was being dragged away so they believe he is in gaza. But the rest of the family is unaccounted for. We are hearing stories like this from many, many people who are just trying to account for their loved ones we have all seen horrible pictures of people being abducted, carried across the border it is horrifying to watch and certainly the worst fear for many people here. Pharmacy staff at some Walgreens Stores walking off the job over what they call increasingly unsafe work conditions and that comes just weeks after similar protests by workers at cvs. Nbcs Stephanie Gosk joins with us the latest on this. J steph, good morning good morning. The walgreens walkout started yesterday. Hundreds of pharmacy Staff Members participated across the country with more expected today and tomorrow it comes just as cold and flu season is arriving and many customers coming into stores for vaccines, part of an influx, pharmacists say that has pushed them to a breaking point reporter at multiple pharmacies nationwide, pharmacists walking off the job. Not for higher pay, they say, but for health and safety reasons. Were so busy running ourselves ragged for the marathon and seeing customers safety be at risk as well as our own reporter tammy who asked us not to use his full name, works as a pharmacist in minnesota she says she joined at least 10 of her colleagues who did not report for work on monday. It is scary and were getting to the point where it looks like i dont know how much farther we can push ourselves. In addition to filling and verifying prescriptions, tammy and other walgreens employees sa pharmacists are also managing a high volume of calls, working with Insurance Companies and administering a growing number of vaccines. In addition, walgreens acknowledges the last few years has required an unprecedented effort by our team members and that it has been a very challenging time the second largest Retail Pharmacy also says it is engaged and listening to the concerns raised by some of its team members and is committed to ensuring that the entire Pharmacy Team has the support and resources necessary. Last month cvs pharmacy customers in kansas city were impacted when workers there walked off the job to protest over similar staffing concerns. My father said to me once, this is the biggest compliment, he said you and raf broke the cycle of bad parenting i was like, thanks, dad. They got better. They got better. I said, ill rewrite one or two a week you do the drawings and see what we get erin, do you have a strong memory of when you were little and these poems just kind of started tumbling out i was so little i was like 4 or 5. But i do remember sitting in my brothers bedroom, my dad would sit in this purple velvet rocking chair and lights be low and we would volley back and forth like a little writers room but with a 4yearold and 6yearold and a dad it was very fun. That is the cutest. We talked how this means a lot to you. Yeah. Will you describe again what that is. You get to do it with your daughter. Well, ill tell you, we all take pictures and make videos of us and our kids. But nothing takes me back to sitting in that chair with two kids reading books or talking to them like looking at these old poems that we did together so i would just the book encourages kids to write and to have fun with words. But i think i hope it also encourages parents and grandparents to grab a piece of paper and write a poem with your kids because 15 years from now, youll read that youll see what the kid wrote because the kids wrote a lot of the lines. And you will just go right back in time to sitting with them i know you you were on with me, i dont know, maybe it was two years ago right after your health scare. I remember that i felt like your whole life snapped into focus. Yeah. If it was out of focus a little, it snapped in. Yeah. Have those lessons endured . Yeah. Its so funny you just showed paul newman because paul newman did an interview once and they asked him if you knew what you know now when you were younger, what would you do different . And he said, i would work less and i remember thinking, but you did great stuff. Yeah. Why would you do that . But now i think i know after the heart attack you need a little space in your life to take in the people around you and the experiences youre having just to have memories and to really value what youre going through. So, im trying to put that in my life and i have been working at that and i think doing a good job erin, whats it like having this guy as your dad its lots of things hes very silly. Hes very serious. He works a lot but he also kind of makes fun of the world a lot. And that was so fun growing up we have a great poem in here about our doctor thats based on a real impression you would do of our childhood doctor and we had a lot of comedians and comedy around the house. The doctor had a very i would do the zr saying this child needs more hot fudge in their system he kind of ran his words together and talked real slow. And so, yeah, i was always doing voices and characters. What was the best advice your dad gave you more than a piece of advice, i have a strong memory of being 18 and having just moved to new york and getting dinner with him. And suddenly being very emotional about having this piece of home after being away from home for so long. And kind of feeling confused and lost, as you do at that age. And he just kind of looked at me and was like, you know, i get it ive been there. I was literally in new york when i was that age and i felt that way, too and he was in new york but he was writing for snl. He gave you great advice.
