This patch of land at the fta serenity bus yard will soon be the next step in the push to end homelessness in the south bay. 200 tiny homes will be built to help people transition from the street to safety. It is going to take bold action like this to address the homeless crisis. San jose mayor calls the temporary housing a crucial step in the battle to get people off of the streets. We have over four dozen People Living outside in camp right now. We have to offer dignified safe shelters for everyone living outside. Were available, we have to inquire people to come indoors. For the vta, which sees itself as a partner in addressing the crisis, step one is in curing the rights of the land below the going rate. The va has to get the permission of the fda, the federal transit administration, to be able to lead this property for less than their market value. The agency also said it will create a security plan to keep all involved safe. So the street behind me is a busy place, when we are doing business. The mayor released a Statement Today endorsing the plan, but a Police Watchdog group contends that the license plate readers that they already have has not led to a single arrest.
