Kerry washingtons new memoir, thicker than water, is out now, and kerry told our producer and guest correspondent emily orozco about the bombshell revelation she makes in the book about her dad. Kit hoover has the story. You share a revelation about your dad that starts with a text message. It was about five years ago, and my parents sat me down and shared this really revelatory news with me. [instrumental music] they told me that my dad is not my biological father, that i was born from a sperm donor. [instrumental music] and i think it was hard for my parents, in a way, because they had kept this secret for 40 years, but it was hard for me, because it really redefined my idea of who i was and who my family is. Kit kerry, of course, was completely shocked by the news, but at the same time, she admits it provided a sort of confirmation for her. It was like they took glasses off of me, and cleaned them, and handed them back to me. Things just started to make sense. I was weirdly excited. Like, i wasnt mad. At first. At first. I wasnt mad. I didnt feel betrayed. I wasnt sad. I just was like, im so curious [instrumental music] kit kerry, who returned to her roots for a special book signing at the Kips Bay Boys Girls Club in the bronx, says shes in the process of finding her donor. The revelation, with the help of some family therapy, adding a new layer to the loving bond she shares with her parents. [instrumental music] we dont have secrets from each other anymore, and theres this great saying that i love that youre as sick as your secrets, and we get to let go and start healing together as a family. [instrumental music] how do you think your relationship with your dad and your mom has changed after that day, if it has . Its so interesting, because i think, a lot of times, we dont tell the hard truths, because we think that, if we risk honesty, then well lose the people that we care about. And, you know, that might be true in some situations, but in my experience, the experience that i share in the book, the more truth and transparency that i had with my parents, the more, like, intimacy and love we were able to share. And, later, well have so much more from kerry. She opens up to us about life at home with her husband and children. But right now, scott, i am still reeling from this big usher news uh, id say we both are the nfl announced that usher will be the performer at the apple music super bowl lviii halftime show, and we manifested this together back in april. You know, if things line up the way that we would all hope, you know, one day, that moment will happen. It has always been kind of a bucket list, right . Really . So, yeah, you know, how do i make it happen . Im not certain about that. We put it out there right now. We say right now, is we are doing the super bowl, baby. Quit playing with me, man scott although it looked like the call came from kim kardashian, in this confessions throwbackinspired promo, it really came from ushers good friend jayz, and he told apple musics zane lowe about the moment. Whats it like getting that call from jayz . Well, i mean, you know, me and the big homie, we talk often. But when i got this call, and he said, its time, its magic time, you know, its time for you to have that moment, it was like, this was destined to happen. Scott but this wont be ushers first time gracing the super bowl stage. Back in 2011, he joined the black eyed peas to sing omg. singing oh, my god come on that was one moment. I think i have a catalog that, obviously, speaks for itself. Bruh so, to be able to celebrate on that day, its obviously about football, but everybody really anticipates the performance. singing when i scott fans are already speculating who the potential guest performers could be, predicting artists from alicia keys to jayz. But usher isnt revealing anything just yet. Well, one thing i can say is ive, you know, collaborated with a lot of incredible artists throughout the years. If anything, i like to socially engage the world, you know what im saying . Listen, fingers crossed usher will lace up those roller skates for the show, right . We can only hope. Scott its all gonna down at allegiant stadium in las vegas on february 11. All right, and now to john legend and chrissy teigen. After 10 years of marriage, theyve renewed their vows. And it all went down in lake como, italy, where they first got married. But this time around, they had their four kids with them. Yes, and at the server for an hour event, hosted by one fair wage, chrissy told e news why they took the plunge again. I saw everyone was like, oh, a vow renewal is the kiss of death, but im like, lets kiss it. Lets do it. [instrumental music] we didnt mean for it to be a vow renewal. We were like, well, were gonna rewrite them and say them, because i have a big hangup that i didnt write my own vows, because i was so nervous, and just insecure and stuff, so i didnt, so thats been, like, a big regret of mine. So, if anything, it was a chance to redo it and be with people we love. Zuri chrissy had multiple looks for the vow renewal weekend, two of which were designed by zuhair murad, including this offtheshoulder black and white satin dress and this black lace and sheer gown, which matched daughter lunas dress. It was easy peasy. I wanted the lightest thing to dance in. Zuhair, for me, means a lot, because hes been there since the beginning of our journey, and he was so nice when nobody would dress me. Zuri during the ceremony, chrissy got emotional reflecting on their decade of marriage. I was so choked up, and the things youve gone through, and suffered through, and that youve been through together, and i said it a million times, i said, this means so much more than 10 years ago. [instrumental music] i dont want to be, like, corny, or gush about john, but i did, for that, like, few minutes, and i looked over at him, and he was, like his eyes were, like, filled with water. It was amazing. It was so beautiful. Zuri emotions continued to run high, as the couple was surrounded by their four children, luna, miles, esti, and new baby wren. John and i pulled up, like, on a little boat to the hotel for the big night, and miles and luna ran down the dock, and i lost it. Zuri but leave it to the kids to keep things light and silly. Theyre so disgusted by us. You know, everythings like, oh, la, la, la, la, la. [instrumental music] its adorable. Talk to me a little bit about the show. What are you hoping that viewers take away from this . Im hoping they really get a view of Los Angeles County fire department. We are any other in the world. So were en route to a cardiac arrest on sunset boulevard. Sheila we cover 60 cities, 2,300 square miles. And we have all these specialty units, our hazmat, our fireboats, our internationally known usar team and our canine units and our world class paramedic and ems programs. And its really cool to see how its done. Cpr in progress. Lets go tell me a little bit more about that dynamic with all of you as a family. I think one of the best scenes that we have at the fire station and its across the country, i know this for a fact is that kitchen table. In the morning, we come in. The offgoing shift is leaving. Were coming on. We catch up on the day. We catch up on life. Thats how we check in with each others families. And that keeps us together as a team, as well. Because it can get intense. And we see a lot of things that most people shouldnt see as many times as weve seen them in our lifetime. We need to helicopter for a trauma patient. We have a clip of you on the 101 with a trauma victim. Sheila yeah, that call theres multiple patients. So our job, when we get on scene, is what we call triage, to sort. So were looking to see whos the most critical patient, and all the other patients, what their needs are. And to prioritize that and see what other kind of Additional Resources we might need to take care of those patients. Zuri how do you stay so composed in these moments, especially when someones literal life is in your hands . Its just a problem. Were going to fix it. Ive been trained by some of the best, anywhere. And i continue to learn and continue to grow. But i think its in that education and training that allows us to stay calm. Zuri and speaking of training, it was my turn to hit the course. [siren blaring] i am all decked out. Ive got my gear on. Its time to get a little taste of the academy. Lets do this. Theyre going to go in that door jamb. Im going to help you out. Ok. And then were going to [grunts]. [grunts] hey there you go. And were in. Looks good. What were going to do, is teach you how to pull the hose off the side of the engine. Kerry washington shares that huge bombshell from her parents in her new memoir thicker than water. Its out now, but there is so much more revealing she does. That is absolutely right. Kerrys always been extremely private about her relationship with her husband, former nfl star nnamdi asomugha. But now were finding out details about their love story. And she told access producer and guest correspondent emily orozco about her decision to open up. Emily you talk about your husband, which you i have rarely done. Emily yeah. Rarely done, yes. Emily youre normally quite private about him. We are. But he read the book. My parents read the book before anybody else. And my husband read the book before anybody else. So i do have their blessing. Emily i dont even know if we knew how you and your husband met until this book. I think thats true. Kit they first met backstage in 2009 at the broadway play, race, which kerry starred in. Kerry on audio we finally did meet and i felt dizzied by the calm and pure authenticity of his presence. I still am. Emily describe that feeling for me. Kerry i think what i love about god, its so funny even though i share so much in the book, i feel like, i still want to keep any more talk about that sacred. I think its really clear in the book how i feel about him. Kit in her memoir, kerry gives up some details on their first date. Kerry on audio nnamdi and i met one morning in the midst of a snowstorm to have our first date over pancakes and green tea. Kit the pair secretly tied the knot in 2013 in sun valley, idaho. Kerry on audio for months, i had been wearing my Engagement Ring secretly pinned inside my clothing, for fear that if people knew we were engaged, it would be impossible to have a wedding away from public spectacle. Kit they succeeded in keeping the ceremony a secret by using codes, as she explained on her Kerry Washington thicker than water 2020 special. We never talked about a wedding, we called it a family reunion. And my dress designer called it the dress for the moroccan premiere of scandal. Sometimes we would be in fittings, and people were like, its a little bridal. And we were like, yeah, its ok. Its ok. White is very white is the new black. It was so special to have our wedding really belong to us, our relationship. There were so many people that, after we got married, were like, i didnt even know you were dating. Like, what . Who is this guy . Kit the pair share three children. Kerry is a bonus mom to nnamdis daughter. And theyve welcomed a son and a daughter together. Emily did you think about your kids reading this one day . Are you hopeful that they get to know you in a different way, by reading this book one day . Huh. I think im hopeful that nothing in the book is a surprise to them when they read it, because im able to talk to them about the truth of who i am all along the way. I hope im able to be that generous with them about my own vulnerabilities at the right times. So important to be open with your kids. All right. Keke i think, for me, ive gotten a lot of freedom from social media. So i just wanted to find a way to encourage and share my platform with other voices that maybe arent receiving the same attention. Kit kekes also been focusing on her music releasing her album big boss back in may. And she shared the inspiration behind it. Its something empowering, because thats how i felt. I think, for me, the time that i recorded it, i was about 27 or 28. I do feel like i started to get my footing and come into my own and kind of just feel like, hey, you know what . I got this. And that was the energy that i created the album with. Kit keke also just wrapped her big boss tour and says she really felt the love from her fans. Keke and its so funny. Its like a joke on tour that we keep saying. Its like, this is your city. And its like it feels like every city is my city. From the beginning to the end, ive been feeling nothing but love. Kit its been a busy year for keke, both professionally and personally. She became a mom back in february to son leo and shared how motherhood has changed her. Keke everything just becomes so fierce in your life. And then the way that your child loves you. Honestly, that connection, that bond, and that experience, it really puts things in perspective for you. Kit it was moms night out for keke. I mean [music playing] scott giselle speaking out for the first time about her divorce from tom brady on cbs sunday morning. Zuri we first got to know giselle as a Victoria Secret angel walking runways for their infamous Fashion Shows and multimillion dollar fantasy bras. Scott ok, so the show was canceled back in 2019. But its made a comeback with a new prime video documentary, called victorias secret world tour. Zuri thats right. And to celebrate, were heading back to 2003, when we were on set with gisele while she did a vs beach photo shoot in hawaii. And they told me to do that because we are in hawaii, aloha. Zuri then, 23, the brazilian model started her day at 5 00 am. Gisele bundchen even if its work, its still a bit more, like, relaxing. One, because you know the people, and second, because youre in a beautiful place. So its, like, this work, its a hard work. But, i mean, i dont really mind. Zuri with a carefree twirl, gisele made the work seem effortless as she showed off three different looks. Gisele bundchen i find it easier to shoot outside, just because you have the whole thing helping you to make the picture good. You dont even need to look that great because the whole thing looks beautiful that if you look ok, i mean, its still fine. So its good. You dont feel that much pressure. Zuri by 2003, gisele was already a pro. She started modeling at the age of 13 and became the face of victorias secret in 2000. Two years later, she was the worlds highest paid model. He took us to vegas to see siegfried and roy. And we were there for two nights. We were going to see the tigers the night before. And so he was like, what do i do with these kids . Oh, take them to a show about mermaids. Yeah, i thought it was going to be a cool kid show. You know, mermaids. Yeah, it turns out it was not for kids. There was no clothes on the mermaids. And there were no clothes on those mermaids. That story did not stay in vegas. No, it did not. You know, sometimes it happens. I need that is at the Roundabout Theatre in new york. All right, well, now to iron chef quest for an iron legend. Its just one of the hit cooking shows that fans love on netflix. Curtis stone and your other favorite chefs are bringing their dishes to life at netflix bites, a new popup restaurant here in los angeles. Curtis gave kit hoover a personal tour. And there may have been some tasting involved, too. Ah, man. Curtis stone. Were here at your netflix bites. How did all this come about . Well, netflix called me and said, we want to open a restaurant with all of the chefs on their platform contributing recipes on one of them. So here we are in the space on fairfax in los angeles. Its pretty cool. Weve got rodney scott cooking up some of the best barbecue. Thats barbecue. Curtis weve got Dominique Crenn from chefs table. Dominique it was too beautiful. Curtis really Amazing Group of chefs from different walks of life. Kit you won iron chef with this. I did. I did. So this is a crab curry, a little crispy onion, crispy garlic. And then this is finger limes, which is a native lime from australia. What is it . I want to touch it. Have a little taste. What that pops like caviar. Ooh. Isnt that cool . Thats delish. Curtis showed me how to make pizza just like chef ann kims on chefs table pizza. Mhm. Its that sauce. Oh. The zaza. That was a party in your mouth. And he gave me an exclusive look at the stranger thingsthemed dessert. Curtis, what in the world is this . This is the most Amazing Ice Cream sundae that youve ever seen. All right, well, next up, were bringing you the secrets behind the Little Mermaid style with the Costume Designer who did all the looks. Well be right back. singing under the sea. Under the sea. Under the sea. Yes, child. Its like scott the Little Mermaid is making a big splash on disney with 16 million views of the movie in its first five days of streaming. And with so many rediscovering their love of ariel, were bringing you behind the scenes for the secrets behind the fairy tale styles with the Little MermaidCostume Designer colleen atwood. Theres always something that everyone loves about the original Little Mermaid. And i think for us we just went with the colors the color of the hair, the color of the costume. And then that set us free to reinvent what the actual mermaid looked like. singing part of your world. Zuri along with the 1989 animated classic, colleen drew inspiration from various fish in the ocean for the entire costume catalog. As for the Little Mermaid herself, she worked closely with halle bailey for over a year to create ariels looks. Dressing her was a joy obviously, shes so beautiful and so joyous. Zuri once on land, ariel subs out fins for the dress she wears at the palace. singing kiss the girl. Colleen i kind of came upon the idea of making everything for the palace the textures of sea life. So this has a texture of coral. I didnt want it to be too grand. I wanted it to have sort of a simplicity to it that would sort of be more elegant, almost, than the fancy dress of the super wealthy people around her. Zuri and colleen revealed a secret for the look. Colleen it looks like a dress to us. But because she had to do a lot of action in the dress, we made it a twopiece costume. It took probably a total to make this dress of 200 hours. This look was sort of my kind of intro to the queen look because its a soft fabric. Its edged with leather cording to give it strength so it sticks out from the waist. The hours spent on this dress would be from 100 to 150 hours. This obsession with humans has to stop. This is king triton, the king of the sea. I want to sculpt it in clay. I want it to feel like its part of a human. We added some sort of elements of seaweed that could have been embellished with gold. Zuri fans may be surprised to know that the costumes in the film werent designed for the water, except this one. This is the costume that actually worked in the water the most. I would say over 1,000 man hours to make this costume. She killed it in that movie. Such a good one. All right, well, now lets move on to our new interview with country star leann rimes. Shes collaborating with fellow Country Singer tenille arts for tenilles new track, jealous of myself. We were with them on the set of their music video, and the dynamic duo interviewed each other. Ok, youre in the hot seat. What made you think of me for this special duet . No i honestly have been a huge fan my entire life. singing aint a day that i dont wish that i be her. How did jealous of myself resonate with you, and do you have a favorite lyric or anything . Yeah, i mean, i just think i love a great chorus. I know a great song when i hear it. And yeah, definitely when i heard it, i was like and it stuck with me. Leann all right, so tell us about the video were shooting today. What is the inspiration behind it today . Tenille today the video is very moody and very what do we call it, grunge . What do we say, wedding grunge . Yeah, wedding grunge. All right, should we go take a look at the wardrobe . Tenille all right. Leann i know. Tenille these are our looks for today. Leann yes, i am so excited. This is a vera wang dress. Its like, literally, a wedding dress. But we had to add some grunge to it. So we got some gloves. Leann and i just feel like this is really cool and obviously just like a classic, little sheer situation. So those are my couple of speaking of sheer, this would be mine. There will be undergarments under this dress, but this is its yeah, its like a little sleeves. Its a vintage Michael Costello dress. All right, and so this is always my favorite part of the whole shoot because i love jewelry. So weve got plenty of jewel options. Youve got all the jewels. Leann i do have all the but you know, i think were going to keep it super simple because were in the burned woods. Exactly. Who needs a lot of jewelry . Im going to wear this little pearl situation and then, obviously, the gloves. I already have my earrings in, so im ready. Good choices. And now to some great news for all you kobe bryant fans. The lakers icon will be immortalized with a statue in front of the arena where he played most of his career. Jeanie buss, president of the los angeles lakers, gave mario lopez all the details.
