I will tell you the pendleton episode, which airs in like a week, i threw up after i read it. And maybe thats just because its really close to the bone for me like this has been my life for the last six years and its like i simultaneously have to say goodbye to the character, to my family and character and characters saying goodbye as well. So, theres a lot wrapped up in it but i still think that like you might need a day off from work jimmy really yes, its one of those gems . But the finale is a bit more of a hug i think theres a little bit more levity. Yeah, the second to last destroyed me i have a feeling it might destroy people too jimmy well i know that your show is so well written and so tricky and beautifully done. Yes jimmy and theres parts of the next two episodes filmed that were three years ago. Yes and i didnt even remember so, the finale, the very last episode of the show, just because of the way we tell the story and jump around in time and obviously like children keep growing and getting older, we wanted to capture a very particular time in their lives and so, some of the finale was filmed three years ago and i didnt even remember dan fogleman, our creator was showing us a couple of the scenes and im like, wow, i dont remember. We werent even halfway jimmy hes brilliant and just saved it for the last episode jimmy did you take anything from the set when you left i did jimmy you can tell people, right . Milo and i went and did one last lap through the pearson house and took some of the family photos off the wall and put the frames back up i mean, they were going throw these pictures away anyway but they meant something to us i took the steelers jersey from the super bowl episode i took my wedding ring my characters wedding ring. Yeah, im the sentimental things where its something i wanted to keep jimmy the photos were interesting because you probably took them before you knew each other. Yeah. We have fake photos of me and milo laughing with each other and we had just met each other were supposed to be husband and wife jimmy i dont think you knew this, but when you first get into this show, did you realize you were going to play your character as a teenager and an 80yearold woman so, when you audition and are cast, the First Episode of the televisions show before it sees the light of day, the character was just written im in the hospital giving birth to triplets and thats all you see of me. I had no idea the scale and the breath of what this matriarch was going to be. So it wasnt until about two weeks before we started shooting the second episode i got an email saying so, we want to see if it works for you to play the character present day and my mind exploding like, wait, so, im working with sterling k. Brown and playing their mother and im eight years younger than them in real life it was a terrifying prospect jimmy but what an acting what a gift and you nailed it, bud, every scene that was so well done and you really nailed it thank you jimmy awesome job. When you guys started this in 1984 yes we dont remember, we think so jimmy do you see yourselves being together in 2022 in 84 . Or you dont think that far 40 years later . No, i am pretty sure like im pretty sure the only reason were still together 40 years later is because suicide pacts apparently are not binding [ laughter ] jimmy wow that that and were canadian its too impolite to break up. But i think i know you but you guys didnt even start together is that correct . You were different sketch groups yes, were two different sketch groups. We were the audience in calgary. Which was marks name a lot of calgarians here we were the kids in the hall in toronto and some guy. And some guy. I was an actor. Jimmy oh, of course. I was a real actor. Jimmy exactly, scott, yes. And how did you all end up coming together and forming the band scott booted his way in well, theyd all had been together and i saw them one night in the midnight show. And my friend, darleen dragged me down. And we were in an audience there was about seven people and they werent doing that well and there wasnt really anybody in the audience to let them know how badly they were doing but i fell in love with them right away and i thought to myself, i need to be in that group. And i noticed underneath the chair, there was a doughnut taped from a really bad scene idea and i then i found some other doughnuts taped in other seats. And i went, oh, i bet those are part of a bit. Maybe i should ruin the bit. [ laughter ] and then theyll see me. And you want to be seen. Jimmy of course. So, i grab the doughnuts and started whipping it at them on stage. And i remember bruce going, who the [ bleep ] . I go like, its me. Im here your new friend [ light laughter ] i just wanted you to notice me and it could have gone a lot worse though because it was pretty bad it was bad, but this party, they dont even know, really buy i had a cross bow with me as well. [ laughter ] jimmy it could have been much worse well, i just came from a rennfair. Jimmy no i was going to fire bolts just above their heads, so, luckily, i went for the doughnuts. Jimmy doughnuts. Always go for the doughnuts. Thank you and now, here we are. Jimmy and did did you all get discovered by lorne . Like, how did that cause i know i auditioned for Lorne Michaels but did he did he find you . Or did he how did that work well, he actually sent people to toronto when we were doing a show and it was the week we got a a really rave review in the global mail, which is a newspaper up in canada and so, were actually at the theater rehearsing after this rave review. And im probably reading it over and over. And then, the phone rang and it was the talent bookers from saturday night live. They said, oh, we read about your show. We want to come. And i said, well, it sold out. [ laughter ] and then, i said, well, maybe well do a run in a year or so. And i said, well, youre from saturday night live, you got a lot of money you can scalp tickets perhaps. [ laughter ] and then, i hung up the phone. And i looked at my four friends here, and realized i did a a wrong thing. [ light laughter ] so, i called the nice lady back and here we are, yeah. Jimmy yeah, and then he saw you and said, oh yeah, you guys are great. Yeah, we had lorne eventually, lorne came up and saw one of our shows in in toronto. And you know, you know lorne lornes a laugher. Hes so easy to make laugh and lorne has a beautiful laugh. Jimmy did he did he laugh . Oh, he laughed. Lorne has like he laughs like an oldtimey cowboy like the chuck wagon cook. He was all they way through the remember remember [ laughter ] by gum yeah, by and the whole crowd was staring at him no one really paid attention to us at all. Jimmy so, he didnt laugh at all no. [ laughter ] jimmy he didnt laugh at all. He looked bemused several times. Jimmy at least he stayed for the whole thing. Yeah, he did stay well not the whole thing. I think no. [ talking other each other ] like a 3 1 2 hour show yeah. And then, afterwards, at the half, i went up to him and said, and now, lorne, guess what after the break, were going to do some improv do you want to stick around . And he was like, hmm. Do i want to stick aroudn to watch improv over my dead body. Jimmy yeah, no and yeah, but anyways, you end up being and working together and became the kids in the hall. Mark, i dont know if you remember this years ago i met you. Yes, 1996 thats right i was on saturday night live. Someone asked me to do a a student film in troy, new york, in the middle of winter so, naturally, i said yes. And i went up there, and there was a sound guy doing the boom who had a lot of energy. Like, way, way too much energy and that was Jimmy Fallon Jimmy i was excited, yeah. [ talking over each other booms in the shot im on it, im on it. Jimmy should i be in the shot as well can i can i get in is the camera jimmy i remember i was laying under a coffee table for one scene or whatever. And i was holding a microphone and you were doing a scene and i go, hey mark. And youre, like youre sitting there like not now jimmy and i go, i really want to be on saturday night live. and you go, good luck, man. Its going to be great. No, but we stayed in touch. And then you sent by the way, the sound on that film, not great. [ laughter ] jimmy i thought that would be perfect no, but later, you sent me a vhs tape and a really sweet letter and said could i pass it along to someone jimmy yeah, i appreciate that you were great to me you were really nice jimmy why why bring it back now why is it just demand Everyone Wants to see the kids in the hall now well, my astrologer told me that one of us was going to die soon [ laughter ] jimmy oh, wow im the weak one. So [ laughter ] i actually paid his astrologer to say that jimmy to say that it was worth it it was worth it. Jimmy this is a this is a photo i have from season five, here this is you guys were all buried together. Yeah. Jimmy you see this one, yeah it was very funny. Its not shocking, its funny. Its funny.
