What are they saying . Reporter good morning, marcus. Berkeley police have arrested three adults and one juvenile in connection with four armed robberies in a roughly 45minute span last night. Its possible the suspects are connected to two or three more armed robberies in oakland and within the jurisdiction of the uc, Berkeley Police department. A Berkeley Police officer spotted the suspects vehicle last night, chased them to oakland where they crashed on high street near carrington street. A female suspect was arrested on the scene. Three male suspects fled, but they were caught. Officers also recovered stolen property and firearms from the car. The four armed robberies within the Berkeley Police jurisdiction took place in an area just south of campus, talking about uc, berkeley. One victim was robbed at a bus stop. Translator i just had gotten out of work. A black truck pulled up, two people got out and pointed a gun at me. They took my necklace, my wallet, my backpack, my hat, and my phone. I couldnt do anything but give it up or else it would have ended bad. This is something scary. Its frightening to general public and especially to the students surrounding campus. Of course we dont want to be victimized. Always reminding everybody in the public, its always better in the eve fng youre out, traveling with other people, traveling in welllit areas, trying to be aware of your surroundings, not having your belongings out and easily detectable. David depape was accused of attacking him last october. In todays hearing, lawyers clarified which questions each side can ask potential jurors. Jury selection for the federal trial is set to begin november 6th. Depape is also facing state charges, which will be tried separately. The suspect did not have to appear in court today as the judge set that next date for november 28th. So pushing it out, the suspect waived his right to appear in person. This is jeffrey martinez. He is now in custody awatting trial, also charges of Sexual Assault of a 7yearold little girl. It took 27 years for clues to lead to his arrest, and it happened because of a public genealogy database. The department of Public Safety investigators arrested martinez back in july, and since then, at least two more victims have come forward. When i was in the courtroom, his niece told me she and other families were there not to show support for martinez but to show support for his alleged victims. He is charged with six felonies including a v8ed Sexual Assault and four counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14. There could be more victims in the area of orchard neighborhood, Cherry Orchard neighborhood, in sunnyvale near matilda. The law allows victims to file suit until they are 40 years old or within five years of discovering that any abuse caused them psychological harm. Martinezs next court date is november 28th. Officers in east oakland say around 9 30 last night a car traveling on international boulevard near 54th avenue hit a pedestrian. Several people jumped out running and abandoning the car. That pushed the car further into the roadway where a second driver hit the pedestrian that driver also drove off and the victim died at the scene. First car was stolen from another city. U. S. Officials say north korea has expelled travis king. He is the u. S. Soldier who intentionally ran across the border into the isolated country this summer. This midday, there are many questions into what happens to him next. Nbc news Janice Mackey friar is following the development from overseas. Reporter the department of defense confirmed that travis king is in american custody. He is out of north korea. They acknowledged the hard work to win his release and thanks to the government of sweden, which has an embassy in pyongyang and the government of china, which implies that the transfer did take place here on chinese soil. Earlier today, state media in north korea had announced that private 2nd class king, 23, had confessed to illegally entering the country and that the decision had been made to expel him. It went on to say that north korea said that travis king harbored, quote, ill feelings about Racial Discrimination in the u. S. Army. Private king dashed across the border in july after leaving a tour of the joint security area that divides north and south korea, where he had been released from a detention facility on charges of assault and was due to return to the u. S. What happens next still isnt entirely clear. Travis king now in american custody is expected to return to the United States where hes likely to face disciplinary action from the military and a lot of questions about whats happened over the past few months. Federal prosecutors allege the senator and his wife accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes including cash payments, gold bars, and even a luxury mercedes. They were arraigned today with two other codefendants, all entering not guilty pleas. The senator is facing calls from fellow Democratic Senators to step down. He has maintained his innocence. New overnight, firefighters suspect an illegal pot grow led to a firefight lasting four hours last night in the east bay. It started around 10 00 p. M. On navajo way in antioch. Video showed some of the plywood that was covering the windows, which they say complicated access to the home. Once firefighters did make it in, they say they quickly pulled back before the roof collapsed. Neighbors reported hearing explosions when that fire started. A live look in San Francisco this midday. This is where the president of the citys board of supervisors is vowing to end remote public comment. This is after a slew of racist calls. It all unfolded during last nights board meeting, which included people calling in using hateful language. Eventually, the board shut down the remote part of the meeting. At one point, the board president suggested it was time to end the practice of remote public comment, which, first, really took off during the pandemic. Its still not clear if the board plans to follow through, but San Francisco is just the latest local government considering to end it. Out of that same meeting, theres a new push under way to boost pedestrian safety. It follows the death last month of a 4yearold girl who was struck by a car while being pushed in a stroller near oracle park. Yesterday, the supervisor introduced a new resolution ban right turns on all red lights. A similar ban took effect in 2021 in the tender loin. A study that year showed more than 9 in 10 drivers observed the change, leading to an 80 reduction in closecaught ill accidents. Theyll have 20 days to develop the language. And here we go with another round of rain up around those areas, and even this morning there was some rain for far Northern California around crescent city. As you can see, that rain is falling apart, so we wont see any of that today. But the weekend, we are going to see another storm system developing, and that could bring in some spotty rain on friday at about 2 30 in the afternoon. We see the spotty rain coming in, may be moving in through friday evening, offandon light showers, and another round of rain possible in the north bay for saturday afternoon into the evening. Just a heads up that we are looking at a decent shot of rain here for part of the weekend. And some of our computer models are putting down estimates. Look at these areas in blue showing about a quarter inch of rain or less.
