Love to see our fans including from my hometown of philly. Exactly. Fired up. You have your philly green on, so there you go. Absolutely. Lets get todays news. That monster category 4 hurricane getting closer to Southern California. Residents in the region are already preparing for the historic storm. This time the first ever that the National Hurricane center has issued a Tropical Storm watch for that area. We want to get the very latest right now from meteorologist angie lassman. Angie, this is an area that can see maybe 6, 8 inches in a year. They could see more than that in a matter of hours. They will get likely in some spots a year or maybe two years worth of rain in a couple of hours. It will be really impressive stuff. Hurricane hilary as you mentioned still a category 4 with winds at 130 Miles Per Hour moving northwest at 13 miles an hour up the baja peninsula. Looking ahead to the next couple of days we will see major impacts, but we have some tropical alerts that are already up. Now a Tropical Storm warning for Southern California. Never been issued before. 20 Million People are impacted by this. The good news, it will encounter unfavorable conditions for further strengthening. Instead we will see further weakening by the time it makes landfall in mexico and crosses into Southern California. It will be a Tropical Storm at that time. With it, it is more important about the impacts you will see. The impacts will be heavy, heavy rain, catastrophic rain, historical rain for this area in places that are quite dry and not used to this. We already have the flood alerts up. You can see them up and down the west coast, and we have the rain working in with some of the initial bands. Thats not the most of it. We will see the impressive rainfall start sunday afternoon into monday for this region. We have got a high risk of some flash flooding. It includes places like palm springs, specifically east of san diego, those mountainous regions, santa rosa mountains. You could see upwards of 14 inches in some spots. Thats going to be on the higher end. The state record for california for tropical system rainfall amounts is just above 14 inches, so we could potentially break a record not just in california but in the category for places like nevada as well. Notice the rainfall amounts across this region in a really short period of time. This goes through monday, guys. We could see, again, upwards of a foot of rain in some of these spots, so flooding is going to be a major, major concern in coming days. Important to keep a close eye on this forecast over the course of the next 24 hours, angie. Thank you. All right. We want to go to hawaii now where there are growing questions. The governor vowing overnight to figure out what started those Deadly Wildfires in maui. Thats where nbcs Steve Patterson is once again this morning. Steve, good morning to you. Whats the latest there . Reporter kristen, good morning to you. The governor adding that close to 500 rescue workers have now scoured close to 60 of that total search area, but with still 1,000 people unaccounted for many families are starting to run out of hope. This morning with questions swirling, new developments in the tangled fallout from the deadliest wildfire in modern american history. Overnight the governor delivering a statewide address. We will get to the bottom of exactly how the fire started, how our emergency procedures and protocols need to be strengthened and how we can improve our defenses to protect us in the future. Reporter this follows a week of mounting criticism about the Emergency Response on the day of the fire. And just two days after mauis top Emergency Management official resigned. Herman andaya stepping down, citing Health Reasons following widespread criticism that hawaiis emergency sirens were not activated. Do you regret not sounding the sirens . I do not. Reporter andaya defended the decision, saying that the system is mostly used for tsunamis and activating it may have pushed people towards the flames. In the state of hawaii will tell you sirens have not been used for brush fires. Reporter a new nbc news review of Public Meeting records found andaya down played the use of sirens saying, from what we understand, the siren is kind of a last resort. Told people to leave their house with a siren, that they smell smoke and head into the black smoke . Give them the opportunity. Thats insulting the intelligence of the people that live here. Reporter meanwhile, overnight another lawsuit filed against Hawaiian Electric with more allegations that the utility is at fault for starting the fires. The atf now on the ground, assisting with the investigation into the cause. All while search crews continue to scour the charred ruins of lahaina. With more than half the search area completed, at least 1,000 people are still unaccounted for including tashas uncle pablo who was married to his wife nelda for almost 50 years. Her cousin just submitting a dna sample to find out if he is among the dead. Are you hopeful he is still alive . I think i need to validate what my auntie shared with us, and she knows hes no longer here. Thinks that the closure with the dna test will help her move on as well. Reporter meanwhile, the president and first lady expected to visit on monday while fema has approved federal aid, 5. 6 million spread out across 2,000 households, the white house matching 700 per each individual household for emergency supplies in this trying time. Guys, back to you. Still so devastating to see the impact there. Steve patterson, thank you. To sports now and the womens world cup. A heartbreaking game this morning for one of the tournaments hosts, australia in the third place matchup. Take a look. On the run now, sending it down to her left. To her right. A foot race. To the ball. To the far side. Tuesday good. Thats sweden scoring a second goal against the hometown favorite, matilda. That sealed the bronze medal for the swedes who dominated this game. They topped australia, 20. Sweden, of course, knocked the u. S. Out of the tournament back in the round of 16. You, by the way, can watch the final match, the womens world cup championship between england and spain tomorrow morning at 6 00 eastern. Thats on telemundo and on peacock. Whew, that will be an exciting one. How about a boost, joe . Lets keep the animal theme we have going on this morning. Okay. You are going to love this one. It is the time of year when the kids head off to college. It is usually the parents who dont want to let go, but look what happened when one dad started driving his son bodie off to penn state with the schools fight song playing. All right. You see, the rescue dog gus chasing the car down the road there, even crossing back and forth in front of the car several times. He really does not want bodie to leave. Gus just keeps trying, keeps trying to stop the car. The family says that when they were packing the van gus kept hopping in the car so he could ride with them, and any time the door opened he jumped in again. Gus not ready to let go. He knows whats going on. Pawlease dont go at the bottom of the screen. Very well done. Very well done. It is so sweet. Gus has one more reason to be excited about thanksgiving, not just the leftovers. Exactly, the homecoming. His buddy. Not letting him leave after that. Hes the new starting safety for nittany lions. Veterans are suiting up and searching for pythons in the middle of the night. Nbcs Marissa Parra explains why. Reporter deep in the marshes of south florida, the everglades is teaming with life. Easier to hear it than it is to see it. Youve got to look for the pattern and maybe a shine. Reporter theyre ready for combat with burmese pythons, but finding nocturnal creatures skilled at hiding doesnt come easy. Tina and gary petty are up to the task. Theyre new to the hunting field. Theyre also married and this is date night, a shared love that started with an instagram post. I was like, what is this . Reporter this is a nonprofit called the swamp aprils and their mission, they say, is to serve veterans through serving the wilderness. They bring veterans south to join the growing ranks of floridas python hunters. Experts say getting the Invasive Species out is crucial. They are eating our native birds, reptiles and mammals. We have seen significant declines in many different mammal species. Reporter where hunting pythons is clearly helping the environment, we wanted to know how this is helping veterans. So we took to the swamp with the idea maker himself, tom rayhill. This is kind of filling a need hard to fill in civilian life afterwards. Yeah, especially when they come out. Ive had hundreds of veterans tell me they like and miss the camaraderie, the purpose they had in the military. Reporter a feeling these veterans know all too well. Tina and gary both served in the army. Gary was in combat in afghanistan. She signed them up for the program to help him cope with trauma known as ptsd. What do you feel comfortable telling us about the hardest moments that you feel like this has helped you with . I dont really want to honestly. Sorry. Reporter because it is hard . Yeah. Reporter it has been 20 years since those days but those wounds are still healing and they both feel it. Getting out of the military whether a combat veteran or not is difficult. Reporter he has a policy, he doesnt ask members many questions but he finds with time they volunteer answers. Ive seen a lot of the veterans on the bubble and not adjusted just start bonding and opening up and talking to me about their service. Reporter something about working as a team, being outdoors and having a mission seems to be working. Ive seen veterans that are having nightmares, having manifestations of ptsd improve dramatically. Reporter gary and his marriage with tina are living proof. He sleeps better, you know. Theres less tension. It is a camping trip every time whether we see a snake or not. Yeah. Reporter for today, Marissa Parra, nbc news, the everglades. What a unique way to help so many of those veterans. Absolutely. Lets get one more check of the weather from angie. Good morning, guys.
