Before we get to cinthia with our microclimate forecast we want to begin with breaking news out of the east bay where firefighters are battling this fouralarm fire in pittsburg igniting around 4 30 at what fire Officials Say is an abandoned building on east 10th street, intersection of los madonnas street. Firefighters say because of a risk of collapse and are defensive pr operations from th exterior. No injuries reported. Good morning, everyone. Yes. You mentioned off the top, a typical start to our bay area summer. We have dense fog hanging close over San Francisco and some of our bay area bridges. Do be careful if you have to head out the door the next couple of minutes and seeing it linger through parts of the north bay over san rafael but typical of the bay area to warm up as we go on into the afternoon. Not all of us will see this warming trend we have in store. Not only for today, but for tomorrow. Were looking at 80s to 90s in the forecast and as we head on into our warmer day of the weekend which is tomorrow, enjoying last couple of summer days before kids head back to school, we might see tripledigit temperatures return in the forecast, even as we go on into next week and we will continue to monitor the chance of thunderstorms over the sierra and how close they could get to the bay area. I wanted to turn our attention quickly to whats going on in maui and lahaina. Of course when the fires broke out, a very strong wind gusts, upwards to 60 to 80 miles an hour. Now down to 10 miles. Our nbc crew is on the ground in lahaina tell us people are angry after she sat in traffic for hours only to be told they had to turn around. Overnight another fire sparked a few mimes north of lahaina, but that new fire was quickly contained. The lahaina fire this morning, one of the deadliestfires in u. S. History is now 85 karened. The death toll has risen overnight to 80. That number is likely to climb. Officials have acknowledged they dont know what theyll uncover as they begin entering the rubble searching for survivors. Well, the streets out here, 100 people dead. I dont know whats on the news what theyre saying. Its devastating. Horrible. They had no warning. Happened so fast, winds were so strong. Were learning more about what happened when the flames broke out. Emergency officials confirmed mauis warning sirens were not activated as the fire approached lahaina. Everything happened so quickly. I cant comment on whether or not the sirens sounded or not, but i know that the fires came up so quickly and spread so fast. With no warning sirens residents had to rely on alerts through local radio and tv stations as well as alerts sent to their phones. Via maui resident notification system as three big fires continued to burn on maui, Health Officials warn the burn area is highly toxic. Youve likely seen the police were helping all over social media and people are desperate to find loved ones still missing. Speaking with locals finally reconnecting with family and friends who lost everything but made it out alive. Walking through tragedy searching for the missing and the dead. National guard on the ground doing a sweep of whats left of mauis so many desperate for answers and information. This man finally made it home today but all he found was heartbreak. Oh, my god. Worst thing ive ever been through. Reporter his family and thousands of others waiting alongside the road or in shelters since the fire broke out tuesday. He couldnt hold tears talking about his neighborhoods. They raised my girls with me. Reporter across the bay area friends and family starting to connect with loved ones who ran from the flames to the other side of the island. Only identified feature of our property is the driveway at this point. Everything else is gone. Im worried for the local people and the native hawaiian family whose have already been facing housing crisis and displacement even before this happened. Tens of thousands are still without power and phone service. Local radio stations are trying to keep people connected. We hear them crying, their tears. Their desperate pleas. Its real. Very real. This video shows people jumping in to the ocean to escape the flames raging onshore. You see the swimmers clinging to rocks hit by waves. The coast guard says they pulled 17 people from the water on tuesday, all are recovering. Deployed in the water to save five people including two children from the water. A coast guard member on leave from the mainland to maui volunteered to support our boat crews, and our members have deployed here from across the country, and they will continue to do so to respond to this incident. The coast guard says its team has not pulled anyone from the water since wednesday. A Real Estate Company with bay area offices is mobilizing its agents nationwide to raise millions of dollars for fire victims in hawaii. Keller Williams Realty says tragedy is personal because one of their agents, alan cons tino, remains missing. It happened in pittsburg around 3 30 at what fire Officials Say is an abandoned building. Firefighters were pulled out of the building because of risk of collapse. They fought from the exterior, and part of the interior did end up collapsing. First responders reevacuated neighbors residents on east 9th street as precaution but now theyre all back home. Our other stop story this morning, the devastation in lahaina and volunteers on maui spending their weekend distributing food and essential items to those victims who lost everything. This comes as residents were being allowed back in to the fireravaged town, and now being told, no. Overnight we learned of a new fire sparking in an area a few miles north of lahaina, but the new fire was quickly contained. The lahaina fire is one of the deadliest wildfires in u. S. History.
