San francisco in the mid60s. Then as weet a look at the forecast for tomorrow, even cooler. We get ocean breeze and thats going to cool down the inland areas. Morgan hill reaching 84 tomorrow afternoon. Well talk about the changes ahead for the week in a few minutes. Mike, whats the update on the crash in oakland . As weve been warning folks, traveling north on 880 right around 7th, you see the slower pattern. Finally showing up on sensors after weve been tracking this for a bit. Northbound side, no details on the progress. I saw more slowing over the last five minutes. Im hoping that means they are getting ready to move that vehicle. I believe its a truck to the shoulder there. North 880 at 7th. The build is at the bay bridge toll plaza, but its mild and slowly fluxing. Not filling in the toll plaza itself. Back to you. Thank you very much. 6 01 right now. After 127 years, fans and employees of a historic San Francisco brewery are saying goodbye to an era. Today in the bays Ginger Conejero saab is live in San Francisco. There have been so many people not ready to say goodbye to anchor brewery. Just kind of iconic there in the city. Reporter absolutely, laura. Its one of those places in the city thats been around forever like levis and wells fargo bank, something thats iconic to San Francisco. Thats why a lot of people also made it a point over the weekend to make their way to the brewery to pick up some merch or some beer, whatever they could get their hands on. I have a neighbor who made their way over and gifted us one of these, an anchor brewing bottle opener, because he wanted to share kind of this San Francisco tradition. Its the same sentiment that a lot of people are wishing to keep alive, people who want to keep the brewery open since the Early Morning hours of july 12th. When the announcement came that the brewery and the tap room are going to close. The company cited declining sales since 2016 as a major reason for closing its doors and running out of time to save the business. Since then, there have been multiple stories of groups, some fans, others employees, trying to mobilize to buy the company. A group of employees expressed interest in buying the company, but their union rep says sapporo wont share financial records so they arent able to make an educated bid. A lot of us feel like were getting shut out because they didnt take us seriously. Were weighing our options on what thats going to look like. Ideally, we would like to keep the brewery itself. Reporter he says the workers have hired a legal team and have Funding Sources on tap. A Company Spokesperson tells nbc bay area by phone the bid came too late. A deal was struck to liquidate everything from the brand name to recipes, to equipment and buildings. That hasnt stopped employees from still making a push. Theyre still working on being one of the groups to make an offer there. Trying to keep anchor brewing alive and anchored here in San Francisco. Well have to see how the story develops in the coming weeks and months. Well continue to follow it. Thank you so much. Its 6 03. Happening today, the man accused of stabbing the founder of cash app in San Francisco is set to appear in court this morning. Momeni is accused of killing bob lee back in april. A bay area drummer is asking for help after his van with all his equipment inside was stolen. Les edwins from antioch is known for playing the drums at pier 45 along fishermans wharf. Last thursday his van was stolen right from his driveway. It was all caught on a neighbors ring doorbell. You can see the white chevy express being driven away. Edwins says everything he used to perform was in that van. I had all my drums, all the drum hardware, two computers, one i just bought. Everything to do my show. Everything i do and work with that i need to make money and a living is in that van. Everything. Edwins says he filed a Police Report with Antioch Police but theyve not been able to track down the van. In the meantime, edwins has created a gofundme account online. Taylor swift has left the bay area and after two nights of rocking we are getting a closer look at the impact. If you were anywhere near levis, you could tell she was in town. She did run past the 11 00 p. M. Curfew set by the city of santa clara both nights. Well, at least they ended quietly. So far the city has not said if the organization will face fines. More than 23,000 riders took the train on friday. Business owners celebrating taylor swifts appearance, one restaurant completely sold out of food, thanks to the number of swifties. And a tea shop miles away from levis saw their sales jump, too. Over the weekend of the taylor swift concert, we bumped it up 50 to 75 in sales. We were busy, on our feet all day. Hotels saw a surge as well. The owner of the Driftwood Hotel said they had their best weekend in eight months. Spectacular. Do you recognize San Francisco this morning . Karl the fog making an appearance on this last day of july. Its a cool one, too. Lets check in with kari. I just posted video of myself at that building there in the distance in San Francisco. We are waking up and seeing clouds. A live look outside in san rafael, its a quiet start and temperatures are only at about 50 degrees as you step out the door. So jacket weather for now but it will quickly warm up. Well already be at 70 degrees at 11 00 and lots of sunshine throughout the day, with our high temperatures in the peninsula reaching the mid70s and the trivalley headed for 85. 81 in san jose and near normal temperatures extend across the bay area. San francisco headed for 66 degrees. This is a look at the view above the fog. It will be mostly cloudy throughout the morning while the north bay will head for sunshine and highs in the low 80s. We will have some changes as we go into the month of august, so ill have a look at that in a few minutes. Mike has a look at lower gas prices that are not so low. Vallejo right now, still leading the back with 4. 11 at the costco on plaza drive. Thats good stuff to start this morning. We also have a good price at great gas in sunnyvale, 4. 19 in the middle, north matilda. Contra costa county, their low is 4. 29. Those are reported through gasbuddy. Com. On the roadways, san jose, 87 does have a minor crash reported as youre heading toward downtown, the northbound side. There may be a small roadside fire just off 87 as well. Were tracking that in the newsroom. Meanwhile, a couple of other fires reported, one off the nimitz is off washington. Thats notfar, but it is not on the freeway itself. Another one680 around sto e reporten the shoulder. Were tracking all of these smaller issues. A bigger impact on your drive, northbound 880, we still have a disabled tru around 7th and maybe in the middle lane with a tow truck now. Theres a little more slowing and distraction. Hopefully thats cleared soon with the backup visible at the top at the bay bridge toll plaza. Does it feel like everyone is on vacation lately . Because they are. Were going to see temperatures going from low 60s to mid80s, and then reaching near 90 degrees today. But compare that to the low 60s well see near the coast. Well talk about all of our microclimates in the forecast coming up. Were looking at the bay bridge backup which might be lighter than you were expecting. One reason is because were looking at this crash north 880, or disabled truck, which is restricting traffic flow heading toward the bay bridge via the nimitz. Well show you the rest of the commute as it builds coming up. Wall street set for a flat to higher open as markets wrap up the month. Dow and s p 500 both up about 3 in july, nasdaq up nearly 4 00. Its definitely baseball weather and its going to be nice and cool for the game today in San Francisco. Were going to see some low clouds and fog keeping temperatures down, but that also keeps foster city cool as well, with some upper 50s to start. Well see mostly cloudy skies throughout the 8 00 to 9 00 hour and then well see high clouds filtering the sunshine today. Were going from upper 50s to about 67 at lunchtime, and 70 degrees at 1 00 today. Across the region, the big story has been the heat, especially for the southwest. Phoenix had 30 Straight Days of temperatures over 110 degrees. Today theyre going to break that streak and its going to reach 107. Thats because were seeing the monsoon storms starting to head that way and thats going to bring in some rain. Thats also whats bringing high clouds into the bay area as the subtropical moisture moves farther to the north. You probably saw high clouds dotting the sky yesterday. It looks like that continues today as well as tomorrow, and then we get cooler temperatures. So we look at our highs for today, this is very normal for this time of year. Last day of july, San Francisco reaching 66 degrees, with some low 70s up and down the peninsula, and also low 70s oakland to hayward. Further inland, temperatures go to the low to mid80s with a few spots reaching the low 90s. We will have a stronger westerly wind, the ocean breeze bringing in that cool air. That will help bring down temperatures all across the bay area, so santa rosa tomorrow will only see a high of 81 degrees and a lot of us can leave the airconditioning off. Its going to be breezy and very mild. Well see that repeat on wednesday. Then once we get past wednesday, its going to start to heat up. We go from livermore seeing some midweek highs in the upper 70s to 100 degrees on sunday. That spike in temperatures is going to hit us fast for the weekend, so enjoy the cooler air that well see over the next few days. Overall our inland temperatures will reach into the low to mid80s and then 90s for saturday and sunday. San francisco will see 60s throughout the week and mostly cloudy skies, but then a little bit more sunshine for the weekend and highs in the low 70s. Mike, youre seeing an unusual pattern in the east bay . Yeah, its starting to look a little more normal, but we had quite a bit of light traffic flow showing up off of the nimitz freeway. Were seeing more build, i believe some of those folks were held up by the disabled crash weve been following at north 880. Coming off of the maze, everything looks standard and no major problems. You see distribution for the slowing on the nimitz freeway. 580 moves slowly, so does 24 from the eastshore freeway. Those are feeding the bay bridge toll plaza. The slower drive because of a disabled truck right around 7th continues to slow traffic. Highway 37, highway 4, pretty standard build happened early and theyre holding steady. No surprises for contra costa county, for Alameda County, we have near the dublin interchange a roadside fire, 680 around stoneridge. If youre going this way, cutting through so you can avoid the dublin interchange we have a minor crash on 84 around the ge plant there. You can take stanley and the other surface streets, but they are surface streets so use caution. As we look at the rest of the bay. No big surprises as far as traffic flow. 87 just around the onramp there, no problems on the peninsula. Build for hayward coming down through the area, so we are watching that. The south bay times are looking good and the north bay push is seeing the second build for 101. Back to you. Pressure building on High Schoolers to pick a good college, but how do you not break the bank . Still ahead, a financial expert gives crucial advice on making that important decision. And right now well leave you with a stunning sunrise happening over the bay area. Isnt that spectacular . Keep it here. A lot more news ahead. Youre watching today in the bay. Were learning new details about a bomb threat in fremont that originated from the search connected to a Domestic Violence case. Police say officers responded to a domestic incident yesterday morning. A man was arrested and his registered firearms were set to be seized. Officers learned the firearms were probably stored in safes at his business on industrial place, but as soon as officers opened the safes, they saw several explosive devices. They evacuated the area and called in the Alameda County bomb squad. The bomb technicians destroyed the explosives, originally thought to be possible pipe bombs. No one was hurt. Tomorrow San Jose City workers are set to vote on whether to authorize a strike. Unions representing more than 4,500 City Employees say they are facing a recruitment and retention crisis. The Organization Says libraries, the airport, affordable housing, Emergency Response times all among those seeing an impact. Leaders from elected bargaining teams are unanimously recommending that members vote to strike. Voting will be held in person tomorrow through friday and a strike could take place as soon as next week. Weve reached out to the city overnight for comment but have not yet heard back. Kids are getting ready to go back to school. Were reminded of the pressure they face to go to a good college. We talked to a local financial visitor get advice on how to pick the right school. Morgan stanley out of walnut creek says you should be skeptical of rankings. Its important to look at the Graduation Rate and there are a lot less popular schools that are more affordable and still provide a quality education. Consider sending your student to Junior College for the first two years. When people graduate from high school theyre 17 or 18 years old, they may not be as mature at that point. So a couple of years at Junior College can help you figure out how to study, what major you want to go into, because ideally if you can graduate from a Junior College at a very low cost and you go into a fouryear institution, youre only paying for two years, but you dont want to switch majors. Youre going to be there a little longer. He suggests you log onto College Scorecard run by the department of education. Its a good resource and can help students explore their careers and help with financial aid. The link to that website is at nbcbayarea. Com. Now leaders are looking for more ways to try to stop the dangerous street takeovers. Today in the bays bob redell joins us live. What are police saying . Reporter scott and laura, Oakland Police tweeted out yesterday that they were putting more officers on the street in an attempt to stop these illegal sideshows, but in spite of that, we know of at least one sideshow that still happened. This was video taken last night at the intersection of park in oakland. You can see where sideshows are so dangerous and illegal. If youre not familiar, the cars generally take over an intersection, they burn rubber, they drive in circles, sometimes spin out, while people watch from the perimeter. Im a double amputee and the guy almost hit me, just driving by me. Theyre completely out of control and they dont care about Anyone Around them. Then the fireworks are going off, my dog is going nuts. Its uncalled for. Theres no reason to have this stuff around here. Reporter similar stories saturday night here in san jose, when police broke up multiple sideshows across the city. Here is one sideshow that was blocking the intersection at san felipe road and yerba buena avenue. Police had limited resources on saturday night. Their focus was on preventing the sideshows and dispersing the crowd. You might recall earlier this month Alameda County supervisors approved a new ordinance to crack down on sideshows. That ordinance should go into effect next month, august, with fines of up to 1,000 and six months in jail. You can be cited now for just attending a sideshow when that ordinance goes into effect. Cities including oakland and san jose have recently approved similar get tough laws, but some critics argue it unfairly targets people of color. In their tweet last night, Oakland Police pointed out if you do take part in an illegal sideshow, your vehicle can be towed and seized for 30 days. Bob redell, today in the bay. Well keep this weather for a little while longer but then we will start to see temperatures heating up in time for the weekend, especially in the inland areas. Ill have more on that in a few minutes. Mike, youve been watching the roads and its been quite busy. It looks much busier at the bay bridge because of the change we saw in oakland, north 880 at 7th, the disabled truck has been cleared from the roadway. Now a lot more folks are making their way on the nimitz, as well as through the maze, coming off of 580 and down the eastshore freeway as the volume builds for the east bay in general. That was the backup at the bay bridge toll plaza, the 880 overcrossing, a smooth drive once youre on the span. As youre getting into the city this evening, it will get more complicated as there will be crowds for the giants game tonight and tomorrow night at 6 45 at oracle park. People might not be focused so much on the crosswalk. Driving across the bay bridge, the offramp at Treasure Island will continue to be closed starting at 11 00 p. Were going to see more sunshine as we go through late morning into the afternoon. Here is where were beginning around the bay area, were seeing temperatures in the mid to upper 50s, its 58 in martinez and 50 in sonoma, 56 in San Francisco. And after our cool start throughout the day, were going to see temperatures warming up in the valleys, nationwide the big story has been that searing heat for the desert southwest. And the headline, of course, with phoenix reaching 110 degrees for 30 days straight. Today were going to break that streak and reach 107 degrees. And its all because of the surge in monsoon storms. Were going to see that coming in today. Its still going to be hot, but it wont be as hot. Weve around the bay area seen high clouds moving in, and that monsoon moisture is part of the reason why. Its causing us to get upper level clouds coming in. Were going to see that today and tomorrow, then we start to see dryer air coming in. Well also be watching the sierra for the potential of thunderstorms between today and tomorrow. Then looking at our temperatures, were anywhere from 64 in Half Moon Bay to 71 in san mateo. Napa reaching 78 degrees. Upper 80s for concord and 91 for san martin today. Tomorrow, noticeably cooler, stronger ocean breeze and mostly 60s and 70s. There will be a few spots to reach the low 80s like the south county and far north bay. Overall were going to have a nice cooldown tomorrow, as well as wednesday. Not our typical august start. Reaching 73 degrees in fremont and 68 in san mateo. Then you may notice that its going to be heating up. Weve already seen the sevenday forecast at the bottom of the screen.
