The vaccine rollout comes at a crucial time. The United States has surpassed 16 million cases. Among the first bay area hospitals to get the vaccine is ucsf medical center. Our Sergio Quintana has details on the new rollout and guidance issued tonight by the cdc. As hospital staff start gearing up to start giving out those first shots doctors and nurses are also going over that new cdc guidance that includes Important Information about a few key groups including people with compromised immune systems and pregnant women. Ucsf is expected to get its first box by tuesday and could potentially get more than one box. According to the cdc guidelines issued last week the first people eligible to get any of those first doses are Front Line Health Care workers as well as residents and employees of longterm care facilities. Additional guidance issued by the cdc specifically mentions women who are pregnant. They will have the option of being vaccinated but are being urged to discuss it with their doctors. Ucsf Infectious Disease expert dr. Monica gandy says that group was not included in pfizers clinical trials. What are some of things youd have with that person right now . There have been some severe covid outcomes in pregnancy. Reporter the doctor says she would recommend the same for patients whose immune systems are compromised. Thats because the vaccine doesnt contain a live virus. It will an immediate effect on stretched resources. Thats because front line doctors and nurses will have peace of miend if they get sick it wont be coronavirus.
