Were starting out with temperatures in the mid40s and were going to see still a lot of clouds throughout about the 10 00 to 11 00 hour before it all clears out. Temperatures will head to the low 60s by lunch time and throughout much of the bay area some times of fog and low fog. Visibility is the lowest now in parts of the north bay and santa rosa. Once that clears out we do have a nice day ahead. Highs reaching into the low 60s. For the south bay up to 64 in martinez. Were going to see this weather on repeat as we go throughout the week. Were waking up early this morning. Some people have to work. Other people are getting ready for thanksgiving dinner already. A look at whats going on as we are starting out with cold temperatures in parts of the north bay. Weve also seen fog there and then as we go into the rest of the afternoon were going to see our afternoon highs reaching into the low 60s, some mid60s as well in spots like santa rosa. Then as we go through the forecast its going to still be busy in terms of storms further to the north but every time a storm reaches near the bay area it just dries out. So were looking at more dry weather as we go into the rest of the week. I wanted to show you how much rain weve measured and how that compares to normal when we look at santa rosa weve gotten 1. 4 inches of rain but then were still lacking nearly 4 inches to catch up to normal for the water year. It looks so pitiful for the rest of the bay area. Only measuring a tenth to 0. 3 of an inch of rain. When you compare that in percentage, well, weve only measured 6 of the normal amount of rain for oakland and san jose. San francisco and livermore only up to about 15 and so we do really need the rain seeing that we are in an extreme drought, as we look at the outlook for the next couple of weeks, its saying we are going to have below average rainfall still in this weather pattern where they weaken but were still getting the cool air. Near normal or slightly below normal temperatures for the next couple of weeks and thats what were seeing even as we go through the sevenday forecast. A slight cooldown on wednesday and the winds may pick up a little bit more especially for some of the valleys but still gusty winds for our upper elevations. For thanksgiving day only looking at highs in the low 60s and going into the weekend were going to have some chilly mornings even near freezing by friday and saturday morning. In San Francisco expect highs that will reach into the upper 50s and low 60s all throughout the week and once again nothing but mostly sunny skies for those afternoons. Lets head over to you, mike. Were dealing with some fog. Has that had an impact on the morning commute . Thankfully, no, kari. Oftentimes fog impact would mean impact. We havent had any issues due to visibility. Lets look at observing and 880 where traffic flows past the coliseum. Scott did mention that during this week many hightech companies have the week off. The commute is different this year, though. We still have a lot of folks heading in for daily duties here at 880 northbound. And then coming off the 880 overcrossing at the bay bridge you do see that steady flow there. These are likely folks who cant telecommute into offices because they work at places that we need to keep our daily lives, grocery stores, home depot, other box stores like that. Theres the backup. The metering lights are still on. Theres a slow drive just a bit slowing on the bay bridge toll plaza and the rest of the bay shows a snooth drive for freeways. Back to you. And in some spots those clouds have been so low it has reduced the visibility so were checking out some of the fog were seeing right now. Its been misting and drizzling in parts of the south bay. Once that clears out were in for some nice weather. We are going to be dry all week with some mild temperatures heading through thanksgiving. Here is a look at the visibility right now where weve seen the lowest amount of visibility up around santa rosa and san jose and were going to see that moving around. So ill be tracking that. Well talk about whats ahead in the forecast coming up. Mike, how is it looking for the commute . Kari, just like youre talking about theres a note for fog in the north bay but as we look it at the bay bridge toll plaza metering lights are on. The backup not as heavy as you might expect it. Its breaking news in downtown san jose. Kris sanchez is live at a very active scene after two people were stabbed to death at a church. Kris, what are investigators telling you . Reporter San Jose Police have not talked to us directly this morning. They did tweet out an update within the last 45 minutes but that update doesnt give any information about the suspect or the circumstances. It only mentions some of the roads are still closed around the Grace Baptist Church where all of this happened last night. So what we know at this point is that two people were stabbed to death. Several other people were also injured but will survive. The police have not said anything about the suspect or the circumstances of this crime but we did talk with the pastor of Grace Baptist Church and he tells us there was no Service Going on in that 8 00 hour last night when the stabbing happened. He also confirmed the church sometimes shelters people who are homeless, but at this point we cannot connect the two. People who live in the neighborhood were asked to stay away for hours and certainly we have seen people walking by and riding by on their bikes and theyre getting diverted still this morning. South 10th and south 11th streets to san antonio streets are still closed so if this is part of your route you are going to have to find an alit ter gnat route. These two people who died are the 41st and 42nd homicide victims in san jose this year. The city is surpassing last years homicide number and even the tenyear average which is 37 for the city. In san jose, kris sanchez, today in the bay. All right, kris, thank you. Theres more breaking news to tell you about this morning. The race for covid vaccine. New phase three results from Oxford University shows astrazeneca vaccine candidate is 90 effective in preventing covid19 with the full dose. That could make it easier to store for many hospitals. Both pfizer and modernas vaccines must be stored in much colder conditions. Restaurants and others struggling in the pandemic must make a whole new set of adjustments for the statewide curfew. Bob redell is live in pleasanton. The governor did tweet out last night he and his wife and children will follow guidance and quarantine for 14 days. Newsom and his wife had no direct interaction with that officer. Last week was politically difficult for the governor after he was heavily criticized for his decision to attend a Birthday Dinner at the French Laundry restaurant in wine country after restrictions tightened around the state. The curfew went into effect from 10 00 at night until 5 00 in the morning to limit the number of people getting together to socialize and drink and so they dont spread the coronavirus. We closed at 8 30 which is unheard of for us on a saturday night. Going to keep everyone safe and i feel like no one is doing anything after 10 00 p. M. Anyways. Reporter now this curfew is in he can until december 21st. Youre supposed to obey the curfew unless you are an essential worker, you have an emergency or going out to pick up groceries or walk one of your animals. Law aura and marcus . San francisco, marin, san mateo counties are all still in the red tier, meaning they dont have a curfew. The People Living there, were hearing they should probably be prepared . Reporter correct. We get a look at our microclimates and talk about how much rain weve measured and how much we need to catch up to normal coming up in a few minutes. Remember, kari said going to for the sunshine. Right here this is palo alto. Were going to see palo alto here as well. Clouds, low fog drifting through areas you dont expect like here on the peninsula. Lowering the speeds a tad bit. Well talk about whats going on in fremont. A little more info on that fire activity. Well check back at 6 41. A live look at the white house and President Trump still not giving up on his election fight asking for a second recount in georgia. This comes as michigan and pennsylvania set to certify their Election Results as president elect joe biden takes more critical steps in the transition of power. And it looks like the president elect will select more of his cabinet this week. Scott mcgrew, hes already chosen a new secretary of state. Secretary of state, which is probably the most prestigious position perhaps other than attorney general. So it is our understanding, marcus and laura, that the president elect has chosen Antony Blinken to be the next secretary of state. Hes well thought of in democratic circles and was Bidens National security adviser back when biden was vice president. We expect a confirmation of that name on tuesday. Now as laura mentioned more states are starting to certify their vote today which if there were an option for an opening from the president to somehow change the results of the election it is really shutting down quickly. In georgia, though, there is that recount that would be a recount of a recount, all three states went to biden. Over the weekend a Strange Development in the legal team representing donald trump. Two members, Rudy Giuliani and jenna ellis said Sidney Powell was not part of their team despite calling her part of the elite strike force and appearing with her at that odd, rambling press conference on thursday where she made allegations that the election had been stolen by a team of venezuelans and an algorithm that switched trump votes to biden. They provided no proof as usual and when asked for proof the legal team, one of them, said its not how the legal system works. Indeed that is how the legal system works. Powell took it a step further over the weekend accusing the republican governor and the republican secretary of state in georgia of being part of that conspiracy. Georgia is probably going to be the first state im going to blow up and mr. Kemp and the secretary of state need to go with it because theyre in on this scam with their lastminute purchase or reward of a contract to dominion of 100 million. Now we cant say for certain thats what led to the remaining members of trumps elite Strike Force Team to distance themselves from powell, but one way or the other they issued this statement. Sidney powell is practicing law on her own. She is not a member of the trump legal team. She is also not a lawyer for the president in his personal capacity. Now, meantime, tradition does continue at the white house. The fun stuff. The White House Christmas tree arrives today. This is video from last year. This years tree coming in from west virginia. It will make its final leg of the journey by horse drawn wagon and, of course, turkeys. Believe it or not the turkeys spent the night at the Willard Hotel last night in washington. Theyll be introduced at the white house today. If tradition holds they will be pardoned tomorrow. Were watching everything thats happening, of course, in washington including those certifications and the recount in both georgia and wisconsin. Were talking about it on twitter. You can find me there on scottmcgrew. A good start. Now that is the thing, laura. Lets talk about these gas prices. If youre hitting the roads for a socially distanced thanksgiving to grandmas house, good news. Those gas prices are dropping, down more than 2 cents per gallon. Regular unleaded is about 3. 40 in San Francisco and 3. 25 in san jose and oakland. Aaa says 80 of trips will be by car. But some people are flying and may already be on their way. A live look at sfo and l. A. X. This morning. More than 3 million passengers passed through tsa over the week despite all of the warnings against Holiday Travel. The big question, are people feeling safe . To answer that live to chicagos Ohare Airport this is where nbc news jay gray is standing by. Weve seen you all over the country. Were sure you flew there. How did you get there, and how was it for you . Reporter yeah, marcus, laura, i flew in yesterday. And the plane was packed. We had a full plane and its been a trouble in a lot of months and the case everywhere we go. The airport was crowded as well across the nation this weekend. Weve seen a lot of airports really doing more business than they have throughout the entire pandemic. Thats a concern. Weve seen flying passengers growing over the last couple of weeks. Still has the spread of the virus. When you talk to those making the holiday trips, what theyll tell you is theyve been cooped up for months, they havent seen family and friends. The pull to do that stronger for them than the risk of the infection. Okay, well, it doesnt seem its getting any better. Might as well just try to have a little bit of fun without getting sick. No one is six feet apart. Everyone is three feet apart or two feet apart. Its horrible. Reporter yeah, and thats the thing, right, you dont see a lot of social distancing in lines as you go through security. Everybody does have a mask on so thats good news. But its a high risk according to Health Officials who are very concerned that we could see the numbers of infections really spike to a point we havent seen throughout the pandemic after this Holiday Travel season. And thats the thing, jay, thats so interesting. So many people are not heeding that warning. Health officials have made it really clear they dont want people to travel. Reporter no, youre absolutely right. Were talking about doctors, nurses, anybody involved with health departments. And then officials from the local, state, even federal level begging people to take this holiday off. To take a break. You should not be travel. Right now covid is surging across the entire united states. Reporter yeah, and thats the big issue. You have that surge. You get people on planes and theyre jammed in together and while the air Filtration Systems on planes do a great job, you still get so many people in such a small place and all the planes have been pack, so thats a major concern right now. It looks like people are going to travel no matter what. I hope they listen to their bodies and if they have any symptoms stay put. Jay, happy thanksgiving to you. I know youre probably going to do more travel for work but stay safe out there. Thank you. Thanks, jay. Remember this bay area holiday tradition, puppies and kittens playing in macys windows in union square. Its always so much fun to see. Much like Everything Else this year tradition will be different. Its going virtual. The windows will still be decorated but theyll have large video monitors showing adorable animals. A little bit of what it will look like. Theyll be there tomorrow. Always a fun tradition. We were talking earlier this month and saying maybe its too early to put out the decorations. Yesterday i went through the festival of lights in san jose, rode through with my bike. It made me feel good. It uplifts your spirit right now. Right. Put the decorations out. I think it does. It adds to the cheer which everyone is looking for. A big turkey week this week, kari. Do you have your bird already . Ready to put it in on thursday morning . Ready. I am ready. Were going to have some nice weather, too. Even if we want to go out on the back patio we will have some cool weather but sunshine. And lets get a live look outside right now in san jose as we are starting out with fog, low clouds misting and drizzling in some spots. We are also looking at some very low visibility in some spots especially like santa rosa where weve seen it come down to a quarter of a mile. Elsewhere weve seen the fog drifting by. So watch out for that as youre heading out the door. Once we get some clearing by about 10 00 or 11 00 or temperatures will start to warm up and well head to the low 60s for San Francisco and oakland. 62 for a high in san jose and 65 in antioch. Up to 66 degrees in santa rosa. As we go through the forecast, we are seeing those storm systems getting very close to the bay area but the rain just kind of dries up before it gets here. Were stuck in this weather pattern with some dry conditions and at least we do get the cooling but we are not looking at any rain. So then when we look at how much weve measured, santa rosa getting an inch, 1. 4 inches of rain, and we still need almost 4 inches to catch up to normal. And then we look at observinakln francisco, san jose barely measuring anything. Compared to the normal amount at this point in the season were only 6 of the normal amount of rainfall in san jose and oakland. San francisco and livermore 14 to 15 . These outlooks give us a look ahead to the next couple of weeks and its showing below average rainfall. Not a whole lot of rain to catch up and we are getting those systems close by so they are bringing in cooler weather so well have near average temperatures and thats what we are seeing all throughout the week so most likely next week will be the same as we look at highs in the mid60s for the start of the week. Some low 60s expected for highs in the valleys going into thanksgiving. Mike, how is it looking with the fog drifting around the bay area for the commute . Kari, its a concern but so far no major issues. In fact, very quiet on the freeways as we look at the big map. The bottom of the screen where kris sanchez reports for the investigation of the stabbings in san jose and then over in fremont more details. This crash resulted after a pursuit.
