On the weekends we were allowed until 11 00 and we were happy with the extension while we had it. Some type of spread from the nightlife, i believe so. Reporter many streets were blocked off to help restaurants survive with outdoor seating all summer long. Now its a lot colder and businesses are trying to survive with no Indoor Seating and a curfew that goes from 10 00 p. M. To 5 00 a. M. Starting tomorrow night through december 21st. Reactions are mixed. San mateo county, marin and San Francisco are in the red tier so dont have to follow the curfew yet but some of the Rural Counties in the purple tier areas are complaining saying the curfew isnt fair to those areas with smaller populations. Weve talked to Law Enforcement and theyre saying they will focus more on educating people rather than handing out citations. Those trials are taking place in two cities but right now were in week two of the pharmaceutical Companies Providing updates on where they stand and local company, kaiser, is the layest. They say theyre extending their testing of the vaccine and includes 12 to 15yearolds. Right now the company trials include 16 and 17yearolds at locations in sacramento and santa clara and the overall goal to enroll 2,000 adolescents to test the vaccine. Now this update from kaiser comes just days after pfizer announced they have completed phase three testing and as you mentioned have plans to submit to the fda for approval and also reveals that their drug is 95 effective versus that 90 efficacy rate they previously released. This week drug maker moderna provided updates on their vaccine creation explaining theirs, too, is at 95 . And as those Companies Continue to Research Vaccines folks here in california continue to receive covid testing in record numbers. Now the number of covid19 dying not particular tests in california have reached more than 21. 5 million. Thats 130,000 test increase from the prior day. The rate positive tests over the last 14 days currently stands at 15 . So theres a lot to continue to follow both in that race for a vaccine as well as testing as well as what will happen when folks return from thanksgiving. Hopefully everyone is staying put. After thanksgiving in the weeks that follow were definitely going to follow both the cases and the testing and we now inch closer to christmas. From a business standpoint pfizer stock was down slightly but has moved higher this morning in pretrading. It hasnt even hit its 52week high. Not clear how much pfizer will profit. Lets face it, thats not the biggest concern. A reminder it may be many months before the average american can get a dose of this pfizer vaccine. Here is the same message from the man responsible for that vaccine. In march and april next year and ideally a better controlled situation next year. I dont want to make this the coronavirus bummer segment but lets keep at keeping at being safe. Pfizer made the announcement about this new vaccine on november 9th. You remember the stock market went absolutely crazy. Since that announcement, november 9th, 10,953 americans have died. Nearly 11,000 people who saw the news about the vaccine are not with us today. Nothing but good news from here on out for me. President trump will sign more orders to lower Prescription Drug prices today. The final piece of an effort he started in july. There will be two new rules. One limiting the amount of money the middle men get when negotiating deals and another that will peg the price the government is willing to pay for some drugs of some drugs for what other countries pay for it. Were about five times the size. I did some back of the envelope math and literally used an envelope that would save us about 82,000 tons if you just once a day didnt say, okay, on your email. Lets go first to the south bay, taking a look at our highs this afternoon. Los gatos will reach 64 and 65 in morgan hill and mid60s for the east bay with oakland today reaching 65. Well see a high of 63 in livermore. And a breezy wind along the coastline but were still making it into the low 60s here. San francisco up to 64 degrees at our north bay reaching up to 66 degrees in napa and 66 in novato. So we are going to have some normal weather but, unfortunately, theres no rain here. We are going to go through the next several days. Storm systems passing to the north of us and just weakening before they can bring some rain to the bay area. And as we look at the trend even going into thanksgiving day we d do not see a drop of rain in the forecast. We need to put up that reminder we are in extreme drought for parts of the north bay. Were seeing it really up along parts of northern napa county as well as sonoma county, solano county, i should say. And then as we head to the other parts of the north bay near the coast we are in a severe drought for the south bay. We are in a moderate drought. So with these Drought Conditions and no rain, we will have to, of course, be very careful with the amount of water were using and were looking at temperatures in the 60s. It warms up nicely. Morning temperatures will be cold dropping down into the 30s. Mike, youve been dropping the commute. Any changes out there . Yeah, changes for the better. Back to that breaking news were following, an Early Morning fire sending people running for their lives in a San Francisco high rise. Cierra johnson is live this morning not far from embarcadero plaza. What are you hearing about the people who were actually injured . Reporter good morning. Yes, out of those folks injured two of them were treated on the scene, a total of five people were injured in this fire. Now all is cleared now. You wouldnt know anything happened unless you look at the building. Thats because you can see that smoke and the singe on the building where the fire took place. As i mentioned fire trucks are gone. Crews have left but that is what we mains from the fire here at the Gateway Apartments. Were at davis and washington, to give you a locator of where we are. We do have video from what the scene looked like earlier coming from the citizens app. This is what crews saw when they first arrived on scene, that call coming before 2 00 this morning. Were told multiple residents were evacuated during the fire and several others were asked to shelter in place inside of the building. Right now that fire that reached three alarms, as i mentioned, is knocked down. As you can imagine a very, very scary night for some of the folks that were involved living in this building. Take a listen. I didnt think it was real until it was real. Minimum layers on top of us to not get too cold. Everything seems to be under control now. Reporter there were no sprinklers so the fire was able to spread quicker than it typically was getting to other units. The building is up to code. The sprinklers werent required when the building was constructed. All the other safety features did work. This is what theyre seeing inside of the building and back live were told the two individuals that were treated on scene are in good condition. Were still working to learn the condition of the three others. A very, very long night. Were happy they were able to get everyone out. County totals since the pandemic took hold, it amounts to 135,000 confirmed infections and more than 1,900 deaths and the numbers now include an outbreak at golden gate fields. Around 100 track employees have tested positive. Golden gate fields says its working with the Berkeley Health department to get a handle on the situation. The racetrack will be closed for the rest of the month. Anderson dam now close to empty. The Santa Clara ValleyWater District gave us this video saying its about 7 full. The dam is being drained at a rate of about 1,200 feet per day equate to go about 98,000 olympic swimming pools every day. Thats a lot. The reservoir could be 3 full by middecember if theres no significant rain. Teams are getting ready to do massive earthquake retrofit on that dam. Theyve had a good season so far. Here in the bay area that means all but San Francisco, san mateo and marin counties. Statewide the curfew covers 94 of the population. And that clock is ticking. That curfew takes Effect Tomorrow night. The impact its having on a lot of people. Lets start with today in the bays kris sanchez live for us in san jose. Kris, talk to us about the reactions of people to this order. Reporter well, the governor had been talking about it and certainly people have been talking about it, too, but, still, when it happened shocking to find ourselves in this position now eight months after trying to do the right thing and eradicate covid from our community. So here is what were talking about, the limited stayathome order will go into effect. It will remain in effect from 10 00 at night until 5 00 in the morning tomorrow through december 21st. So what does that mean for you . The curfew order still allows you to go to work if youre an essential worker. You can still go to the Grocery Store and get out to walk the dog or get fresh air, get some exercise and pick up takeout or food from a drivethrough. The order does not allow you to gather with people who are outside of your household, not even your bubble, and you cannot work or travel unless it is essential. Reactions are mixed. Its a good idea. They have to do something until they fin adure with a vaccine. Its going to affect businesses but, you know, its better to be safe and for people to have their lives than get sick and maybe not see them anymore. I dont agree with it. We have rights as americans. I just were being treated like little kids, being conditioned to listen and i dont feel its right. Reporter that being said he said he is going to abide by that curfew order. Now we did ask Law Enforcement how they are going to handle this and they say they will be focused on education and not on enforcement. If they see you out and about during the hours youre not supposed to be out they will talk to you about it but you should not expect that you will be issued a citation. So were okay with it. In my circle folks are saying lets just get it over with then. Reporter the two individuals treated on scene are in good condition. Total of five people were injured in this situation. At the Gateway Apartments there arent any fire trucks on scene. They have since left but we have video from the citizens app to break down what firefighters saw when they arrived on scene at 2 00. Multiple residents were evacuated. Some others were asked to stay in their unit in the building while they were fighting the flames. Right now the fire, we know, three alarms. Its completely knocked down with crews having left the scene and right now were being told the two individuals that were treated on scene are in good condition. Five people total were injured.
