Season is expected to be a problem. Governor newsom hit the emergency brake across california because of covid he mentioned something else. Imposing a statewide curfew. The possibility of it. And a lot of people didnt like what they heard. Dr. Fauci weighed in on that idea. We sat in on the speech to students. Dr. Fauci today received the award from san jose state school of journalism for integrity and honesty. Truth telling builds credibility. We must always tell the truth. He was asked by a professor about the idea of implementing a curfew. Sometimes when you are dealing with the seriousness of the situation right now, i leave it up to the good judgment of the leaders of the state and city. To make that. If they make that decision, i certainly think the basis upon which i would back that. Its worked in other countries where restaurants close early. The curfew is understandable in concept. But i have serious concerns. County supervisor is about to be sworn in as state senator and worries about covid fatigue and other issues. Enforcement. Police chief issued a statement saying the expectation for Law Enforcement to enforce a cur few is unreasonable. Im confused as felons are being released from custody as we enforce an order. Dr. Fauci will carry a lot of weight. As the governor weighs the option. Businesses not booming for the restaurants that are in business tonight begins a another tough stretch. More restrictions more headaches and some cases not enough propane. Lets bring in the details. Most of the bay area dining out is the only option. In the summer it was nice. Now its raining and windy outside. Restaurants are making a lot of adjustments. All must move back to out door only. San francisco also choosing to move dining outside. Even though its not required to do so. Were seeing a surge. That is so gut wrenching to owners struggling to stay afloat. For example the mission city grill had to leave nine indoor tables empty. And set up tents to serve outside in chilly wet and windy weather. We really werent expecting it so soon. And the more than news came out we knew it was getting closer. We put up a tent. I got heaters yesterday. Another challenge the patio heaters. They are in short supply. So is the propane. Ace hardware is limiting the number of tanks each customer can buy to one a day. They are losing catering jobs because people are cancelling in person meetings. Because employees are staying home. Really tough for restaurants right now. Some barely survived the first wave. Now the second wave. Fingers crossed and support our restaurants. Try to get take out. Theres so projections between 30 to 70 of our restaurants will go out of business. Its challenging. The stress keeps mounting. Lets talk about the rain. We are getting a decent soaking. This is video from this afternoon in dan ville. Lots of rain. Lots of puddles and especially slick roads. Chief meteorologist is tracking it for us. We have had the full thing this afternoon. Another afternoon. When will it taper off . I think later on tonight it will be breaking up. Well hold onto a chance of spotty rain into tomorrow and for the businesses that are suffering, i think well have a prolonged break here. To at least help boost some of this out door dining. The totals now. You can see it was good here for the quick blast of wet weather. Not as much for the south bay. Downtown is only seeing twohundredths of an inch. Where the mountains take that moisture. The storm front is moving to the south and east. Thats why things i think at this point will be breaking up over the next couple hours. You can see storm ranger is light to moderate rainfall. And parts of the peninsula. This will continue to move off to the east. And a little bit of the south motion. Through the next 30 to 40 minutes. Keeping that wet weather. The south bay hasnt been much here for san jose. Morgan hill you can expect those rain chances to definitely continue through this hour. Coming up in about 15 minutes. Details on the rain chance for tomorrow. And also talk about some thick fog that could make it dangerous on the bay area roads and ill tell you the time line on that. In about 15 minutes. This is something new for us. A new problem for us. Environmentalists say rain is sending covid trash like masks and wipes from the streets into the bay. Lets bring in joining us in San Francisco. I see a lot of it without the rain. All that trash on the streets. The masks. Now its going into the bay. Thats right. Just driving around we saw those masks mixed in with plastic bags. Cups. Old shoes. You name it. If you peek over railings youll see something similar in the bay. From San Francisco a new round of rain doused the bay area. Its good the rain is here. We need it. Rachel just moved here from hawaii. This is my First Experience with San Francisco being cold and rainy. And First Experience watching the water meet the dirty streets. Theres masks everywhere. Even the ocean front theyre in the water. We call it the first flush. Executive director of save the bay. Describing the first significant rainfall of the season as the first flush. Causing a surge of trash to flow from our roads into water ways. All while a surge of covid19 cases grips the country. Because of covid this first flush of trash in the bay is actually going to be worse. Were all generating more trash and ending up as litter. The California Coastal commission which conducted a statewide clean up in september. Tracks 50 types of debris. Masks and gloves came in at number 12. Extraordinarily high leaders say considering this is the first time ppe made the list. Its there for a long time. Choking wildlife. Poisoning the water. Sometimes for centuries. Many people are asking others please wear a mask. And when you are done with it. Throw it away. In the trash. And not on the street. Cal trans says workers are noticing more p. P. E. On roadways. That is all good information. Thank you. You can get updates on this rain on your phone. Its more accurate than iphone weather. Down load or weather app. For forecasts tailored to your neighborhood. A family is shaking tonight after confrontation with the neighbor that turned racial. The jones family says the neighbor came to their front door armed with taser. She was complaining ability the dog. Then the conversation turned to race. You are a black person in a white neighborhood. You are acting like one. Act like a white person. It doesnt matter if you grew up in a gated community your whole life. Its bound to happen. It will happen. As africanamericans, unfortunately we have to prepare our children on how to deal with it. We did knock on the womans door to see if we could get a comment. She didnt answer. The jones family says they are sharing their story to show what other people of color face every day. Up next. Taking on pg e. The bay area county and cities suing the utility over a destructive fire. Not done yet. It has been one year since moms for housing launched a movement to help people find homes. What they have set for 2021. It has been a year since homeless moms took matters into their own hands. Moving into an empty house without permission. The movement launched a founder into the oakland city counsel as well. The moms refocussed attention on the another housing issue. Predatory loans. We have more on how the moms for Housing Movement plans to help struggling families on the brink of homelessness. I will be going into office in january. What we still need this. Cofounder hasnt moved into her new office at city hall yet. The city counsel member elect is already making plans for what she will do to tackle oaklands housing crisis. Im looking forward to implementing legislation so that we can avoid the circumstances that these moms had to go through. Come january the housing activist will represent west oakland. One of the fastest gentrifying neighborhoods. They managed to force a private company to sell on empty house to a land trust. We have to create the infrastructure. To protect people. People like fred. Oakland homeowner and father of three who is in danger of losing his home to foreclosure after signing up for a predatory loan. Moms for housing marked the one Year Anniversary of taking over the vacant house. By marching to the steps of the courthouse. With the bull of calling attention to the weekly foreclosure auctions that happen on the courthouse steps. Auctioning off peoples homes. Its unclear if the rain or the crowd of demonstrators turned people away from the auction. The real work on fixing oaklands housing crisis made worse by the pandemic begins in january. With the progressive majority on the city counsel we can do some things we werent able to do before. This is a big one. 100 million on the line. Suing pg e over last years fire. Todays lawsuit accuses one of the utilities loose power lines of sparking the largest wild fire ever. In the county. Heres investigative reporter. Its the repetitive and repeated mistakes that get made over and over and over again. John the attorney for the county. His lawsuit accuses pg e of a pattern of negligence over the fire. The charred 77,000 acres injured four firefighters. And prompted the largest evacuation in county history. Our unit obtained cal fire report on that fire. Seeking criminal charges against the utility. Investigators say pg e decommissioned part of a 230,000 power line. Leaving it loose. After two decades of swaying in high winds, cal fire says the loose line snapped at the origin of the fire last year. The evidence he has seen points to pg e having improperly abandoned ageing equipment. When they did that we believe they did so negligently. Knowing that theres a high risk of fire in that area. He already sued pg e over the wine country fires in 2017. He worries about neighborhoods that now may have been traumatized twice. By pg e sparked fires. That type of repetitive stress can be very devastating for communities over a long period of time. So we just really hope that the new pg e leadership hears the call for change and makes real change for safety. And stops putting profit over. Rebuilding and fire tighting cost. Pg e didnt respond to the suit. But said in a statement its probing what sparked the fire. At a tower that passed inspection just months before. Tonight we have a happy update for a tiny victim of the recent wild fire. Remember this. Captain cal the lion cub has been recovering. 47 days after firefighters rescued him. Hes doing so well. Hes bonded with his female cubs. In a few weeks they will travel to the zoo and join an ageing Mountain Lion who needs company. Research has shown they are more social than scientists thought. They will form a cute little new little family. A little pod out there now. In cincinnati. Sisters. So cute. Jeff is back to talk about the rain. Its a great refreshing change. It really is. A will the of the everyone dogs and maybe a few cats the paws are getting wet this afternoon. With the rain moving through. And on storm ranger we are seeing the bulk of it pushing to the south bay and east bay and peninsula. The current scan. Its again not too heavy light to moderate. A decent soaking. We zoom in you can see the peninsula some spotty rain. This will be pushing from san matt to free mont. As we head through the next 45 minutes. Keeping those showers in the forecast off to the south its been real slow in san jose because the rain is getting hung up over the mountains. Theres a few areas of scattered rain. Morgan hill has a better chance of keeping rainfall through the hour. 7 00 tonight. Into the forecast, i want to show you that tomorrow we will keep the cool weather with us. Temperatures really not changing a lot. With lots of upper 50s and low 60s. Really no matter where you head. Temperatures will be the same. That rain time line will keep spotty rain in the forecast through tomorrow. Not as widespread. You can see 7 00 in the morning we have the chance near the north bay. Hold onto that as we head through the midday hours. 11 00 in the morning. Slight chance we could see a thunderstorm pop up with some of the instability. And eventually wednesday evening well see that rain chance moving on out. With the ground so wet from the recent rain the one problem we could get into as temperatures cool off thursday morning and ground fog. I want to show you real fast. Thursday morning youre up early at 7 00. We could see the fog back there for the central valley. Thick. And the areas of fog developing throughout the bay area. More looks at this. Also what is ahead with our rain chances tomorrow. How much we could pick up from that. And ill be back with that in about 25 minutes. The good news, we should get a break here the next couple days eventually for the businesses that are doing that out door dining. It will be good. That is so stressful for them. We hope people can continue to get some out door eating in. Thanks. Much more to come. Have you been to the store in the last couple days . Panic buying is back. Where theres plenty of toilet paper to go around. When will this president ial transition stand off end . Why we may get more clarity within two weeks. Grilled on capitol hill. The pointed questions for Mark Zuckerberg and jack dors. The election is over. It was the main topic of discussion for the ceo of facebook and twitter today. Mark zuckerberg and jack grilled by the Senate Judiciary committee for four hours today. Asking how they moderate the billions of piece of content posted regularly on the platform. Republicans address concerns of bias. Over conservative posts. While democrats focus more on how moderation could help stop the spread of hate speech and violence. The ceo seemed receptive to more transparency. I believe we are well over due to update the rules for the internet around con ten, elections, privacy and data. Important questions here. Including who should be responsible for what people say online . For any system to work there needs to be a transparent process that people feel they can trust. We updated ob policy to address misleading or disputed information that under mines confidence in the election. Causes voter intimidation or suppression. Or confusion about how to vote. Or misrepresents election out comes. Something both republicans and democrats both seem to agree on, facebook and twitter have enforced policies inconsistently and want more visibility into how they reach decisions. This is the second time in three weeks both ceos have been grilled on cal toll hill. At issue a law known as section 230. The platforms are generally not responsible for illegal or offensive things posted on their social media platforms. Lawmakers have suggested that section should be revoked because it allows the spread of misinformation. This is an issue president elect joe biden has said he will address in the future. Okay. Thank you. Up next. Fired by a tweet. Who President Trump just let go and what he said about the election that clearly angered the president. Are you doing it . Panic buying as this pandemic continues to increase. Store shelves clearing out again. Do you need to worry about running out of toilet paper and the other items . Ernest hemingway wrote the old man and the sea at 52 Satchel Paige was still dominating batters at 59. Celia cruz was still winning grammys at 77 john wheeler illuminated our ideas of the universe at 70 and roger crouch was 56 when he first went into space your best is yet to come that came from me. Really. My first idea was in one quarter of an hour, your savings will tower. Over you. Figuratively speaking. But thats not catchy, is it . Thats not going to swim about in your brain. So i thought, what about. 15 minutes. 15 percent. Serendipity. 15 minutes could save you 15 or more on car insurance. President trump lashing out on twitter tonight. Firing his Cyber Security chief. Concluded the election was the most secure in u. S. History. President trump says he was highly inaccurate. So hes out. Capitol hill rattled tonight by the president s plan to pull a large number of u. S. Troops from afghanistan. And iraq. Many republicans are challenging that move. Historically this doesnt happen. Making Major Military moves in the final two months o of a presidency. Pulling the troops would leave 2,500 Service Members in each country. Critics are concerned rushing this might again create a haven for terrorists. President elect joe biden is still denied access to top level intelligence. He compensated with briefings from perktss outside the u. S. Government. Mcconnell now says there will be an orderly transfer of power. He opposes reducing the troops. A draw down in either afghanistan or iraq would be a mistake. Kamala harris today returned to the capitol for the first time as Vice President elect and biden is blocked from getting classified briefings. She has access. As the intelligence committee. And she was briefed today. President ial transitions are usually smooth. Were seeing president elect joe biden doing a work around to get intelligence briefings. This is not how its supposed to go. Of course not. Its so unfortunate. If you dont have this seamless or close to seamless transition the Incoming Party knows next to nothing about whats going on. In an official context. When you said work around what Vice President biden is doing is meeting with people. Many of whom who have been recent with the administration. To learn as much as he can about the different areas whether its domestic policy or foreign policy. Its a challenge. It wont be the same as getting access to the organizations. But its the best he can do under the circumstances. Termination of chris krebs. He was preparing himself. He said it was the most secure election. Contradicting the president , not a surprise. He was one of the most talented in the administration. Appointed by the president. To head the security agency. It is most responsible for making sure that the election is smooth and no interference abroad and domestically. He said it was the best election we have had ever. Appointed by the president. That was enough. He fired him by a tweet. And its one more person who has been rolled out. Because he said the truth. Lets break this down. A little while ago the wayne county in detroit was deadlocked on certifying votes on party lines. A tweet from the president. And now were hearing they may have certified it. It was a moving target. The impact theres an impasse on certifying that. Talk to that. This is another example of where either the Trump Administration or people in the trump circle have decided to do whatever they could to under mine the vote of the people. We saw senator graham doing this in several states. In the case of wayne county detroit the main part of the county voted more than two to one. 67 to 31 for biden. By 300,000 votes. In the process, they said this is who were doing. In every county in michigan the county certifies the result and moves up to the state. Well, trump loyalists said we think there are some problems here. No evidence. No evidence according to the secretary of state. That was enough for two republicans out of the four Member Organization to say were not certifying. We have a tie. Something happened in the last three minutes. Suddenly four to nothing they have reversed themselves. In that brief interim the president said watch out. Michigan is coming to be on our side. Of course not. This is the case in so many instances around the country. There have been 21 cases, lawsuits against various states that have gone ahead and certified or voted for biden. In every case but one they have been turned away. In the one case it was a minor change. So these efforts to oppose the votes of the people in the various states are falling apart. And the sad thing is is really leads people to cast doubt on the entire political net work. Very quickly. How long can this stand off continue like this . Were only january 20 is not that far awa. The country needs to move forward. We have seen how much the president can do in one day. Heres the story. Were going to see states certify. And nine states already have. Now beginning the rest of this week and into next well see more states certify the results. For example, georgia will certify by friday. And when that happens its done. Hopefully for many at least, once all the states certify. Knowing there wont be a change. The president will have his way out. And the transition may occur in a normal way. Well know more about that in three weeks. Still. Thats three or four weeks where the new people cant meet with the ones in power. Thank you. As we have been showing you the last couple days the last weeks many places around the country are seeing their highest numbers yet in the pandemic. Holiday season could add to whats an already dire situation. The death toll continues to climb. Now close to a quarter of a million american lives lost. Hospitals are simply just running out of the space. To treat patients. Its not going to be enough. We dont have the capacity. And like were seeing here in california, other states are restricting business operations. Have you been to the store . Bare shelves and panic buying. Its deja vu. This time its different. Or so we think. Reporter as the imperial family loads up their car, they say theyre lucky they shopped in the morning. Hand sanitizer. Soap. Dish cleaning. Finding most of what they were looking for. Paper products are kind of empty. You have to settle for what they have. Half hour later. Same target. And a the paper goods aisle looked like this. Target is wiped out. It shouldnt be the type of problem that we had in the spring. Even while some stores like this costco are back to putting up signs warning of shortages. And limiting how much you can buy. One business professor says the aisles shouldnt stay bare for too long. Its more difficult to move things around than it was. Because you cant get people within six feet of each other. That slows down stuff in the supply chain. Important to mention theres no shortage of the products. Theyre being made and delivered. If some of us horde them, the rest of us have to be patient and wait until they are restocked. Thank you. Listen to this. A bay area woman is under arrest in hawaii for allegedly breaking quarantine rules. Police say 52 yearold arrived on november 8. She didnt have an exemption and was required to quarantine 14 days. Instead police say she posted pictures on social media showing her exploring the island. Her bail is 6,000. Up next. Another change of plans for bottle rock in napa. The new new date. Testing before turkey. Launching this campaign today. That county in the purple tier like most of the local counties which means holiday gatherings are not encouraged. If they happen they should be short. Kept outside and limited to no more than three families. Health leaders understand people might ignore the guidance. And asking people to add covid testing to the list of holiday preparation. Drive through sites are open in several places throughout the county. If you must get on the plane this season. Things will look different. The airport has installed more than 15,000 markers. To remind people to keep their distance. Also hundreds of Hand Sanitizer stations. And the tsa is allowing you to carry on a bottle of Hand Sanitizer up to 12 ounces. Barriers in various areas and frequently touched surfaces will disinfectanted. You must bring your mask and keep it on. Hopefully the fourth time is the charm. The Music Festival is postponed yet again. Bottle rock was scheduled for may 22. Then postponed to october. We are seeing the rainfallic up there. The snow the past three weeks we had one storm per week for the see ra. That added up. 24 inches. 20 in alpine meadows. Theres more snow on the way tonight and tomorrow. Lets bring in a storm ranger. Most is pushing to the south and east. Were in the last leg of the main storm front. Over all, i think the peninsula is clearing out from some of the consistent moderate to light rain you have had most recently. This would keep spotty showers here through liver more. Into 7 00 tonight. In the south bay it has been slow going for san jose. Were now beginning to just pick up showers there. And i do think as well here. Well see that chance of rainfall continuing as we head through the next hour. The problem is the mountains just steal a lot of the moisture. So theres no as much left over. Its known as a rain shadow. We take you to the south we have the best chance of this location. Continuing to see the rain chances as we head through 8 00 tonight. Into the time line of this, as we move through 11 30 this evening. Spotty chances left for the south bay. As we roll through tomorrow the main storm front has left. Well have instability left at 7 00 in the morning. Once we hit midday into the afternoon, there will be an isolated chance of slight possibility of thunderstorms. Generally some light to moderate rainfall. Scattered from 1 00 p. M. Keep that umbrella handy and the jacket. Totals over all. Not very high with the chance as we move through the forecast. 17 hundredths here. 3 hundredths in san jose. Snow through the evening and tomorrow about another foot of snow for some of the Higher Elevations and that will be great news for the snow pack. In San Francisco the real big they think were watching for is ground fog on thursday. And head through the weekend well dry out and clear out. With temperature ins the 50s to 60s. Not too hot over the 7day forecast. Focus on thursday. Thats when we have the ground fog possible in the morning. That could be thick. Once we hit saturday we will dry out with beautiful weather. That brings me to the next thing here. If you have a garden, clean up the vegetables. Plant bulbs. And enjoy them in the spring.
