Were seeing light showers moving through right now. And storm ranger is showing that as we look at mill valley as well as moving over towards fairfax and parts of southern Sonoma County as you get ready to head out the door were going to see the heavier rain moving in later this morning as we take the time line for the north bay up until about 9 30. Well start to see that rain spreading into san rafael and napa. Well be tracking that throughout the day. Ill have more on this coming up in a few minutes. Mike, how is it looking right now for the commute . Better. The commute overall is all right. Over in brentwood we had a problem on the map behind me. Well sort it out and let you see the sign. When you write the actual music, those are her stories. Exactly. Money, money, money. Right, exactly. Speaking of green rain, rain, rain. We are going to be tracking a lot of that green on the radar today. It looks pretty good as we get a look at our radar showing the storm system approaching from the north. Its going to be so nice to get this rain in here and it not cause a lot of problems but it has been quite breezy out there even ahead of the main cold front moving through. As we are looking at some of the light showers that were tracking with storm ranger, we can see it moving into parts of the north bay, just some spotty rain especially in some of our Higher Elevations and well see that continue throughout the morning. So here is what were expecting. Today were going to have much cooler temperatures and some gusty winds at times that could reach up to 30 to 40 miles an hour especially in the upper elevations. But by tomorrow we start to see it winding down to just some spotty showers and chilly temperatures but then the rest of the week well have sunshine and also some nice fall like weather. As we go through the time line of the rain once again starting in the north bay notice the reds indicating much heavier rain and then as it moves into the east bay its a lot lighter with some green, even some dark green that could indicate some heavier rain as well. And then we go through 8 00 p. M. And we start to see it tapering off but notice as we go into tomorrow there still will be spotty showers moving through. Even into the afternoon. So were still going to be watching out for the rain chances as the cold front moves away but we still have enough of an unstable atmosphere that produces some rain and also some high winds. Were looking at our possible rainfall totals for much of the bay area, mostly at about a tenth to a half inch of rain before the north bay, those rainfall totals will be much higher. We could see over an inch of rain in spots like mill valley and thats the reason well have to watch this very closely. Ill have more updates on this throughout the morning. Mike, whats going on with the commute . Well, kari, after we had the crash at highway 4 in brentwood that cleared from the roadways, activity in balfour and another spot. Lets zoom over there now. Highway 4 has been dominating the reports. First we had glass in the roadway and theres still glass will but westbound also affected by a car fire over near mcewen coming into martinez from 680 off the benicia bridge. Just a note connecting to the east shore freeway. The east shore freeway and the bay bridge are clear and so is the rest of the drive right now. 5 21 more cars hitting the road. There are so many covid19 restrictions taking effect as soon as this morning and it is all a lot to digest. Today in the bays Cierra Johnson is live in petaluma to break down what you can and cannot do. So a lot to get through this morning, cierra. Reporter good morning. Yes, it is a lot to break down. Weve made graphics that are easy to digest. A lot of the bay area is in purple. Lets break down exactly what that means. Take a look at your screen. Right now six counties are in purple. Santa clara, alameda, contra costa, solano, napa and sonoma counties. Purple is the most restrictive tier. Taking a look at the list for the counties in purple, items on the left are businesses that must now operate outside. They include restaurants, wineries, gyms, museums and zoos, card rooms and places of worship. Now those items on the left side of your screen can continue to operate indoors that includes malls and retail shops but they must operate at 25 capacity. Beauty and other personal Care Services can also remain inside with the proper protocols. Take a look at the counties in red. Three fall in that category. San mateo, San Francisco and marin counties. Keep in mind this is just a minimum of whats required. Counties can add additional restrictions. San francisco has ended Indoor Dining as an example of that additional restriction but as it stands now for those counties in red, wineries and card rooms must stay outdoors. Churches, movie theaters and places of worship and gyms are now still inside but at a red e reduced capacity. As it stands now 41 of 58 counties in the purple tier according to 41 of the 58 counties are in purple, so according to began ngavin newso is the fastest. The county is working to get those cases under control. We have done this before. We can do it again. We really need every Single Person living and working in our counties to take this extremely seriously. The most important thing as a community we can do is help get our children back to school, so we are really asking people, begging you, to double down on your efforts. Reporter it is important to note that schools that are open are allowed to stay open. Schools that have not opened cannot reopen yet. Again, we have all of this information posted online. Its a lot to break down depending on the county youre in. We have it listed online so you know whats going on and, again, its important to remember to wash your hands, wear your Face Coverings and practice social distancing so we can get this thing under control. Were live in petaluma, Cierra Johnson for today in the bay. You couldnt say it any better. Youre so right. New mask mandated as the covid cases start to surge. State Health Leaders say people should wear a Face Covering everywhere outside their homes with only a few exceptions. Hand sanitizers, social distancing without a mask just is not enough. You dont have to wear a mask if youre alone in your car, working alone in your office or eating or drinking. Rolling back to more restrictive tiers may not have come as a surprise but did happen suddenly. As we saw in march some people started to stock up on those essentia essentials. Today in the bays kris sanchez is live for us and is looking into the second wave of panic buying. Kris, a lot of people, i need to get it now. Reporter yeah, a lot of folks feeling a little insecure about what theyre going to find later on down the road. I can tell that you workers here at this san jose safeway are restocking shell was right now. My cameraman and i were at a different Grocery Store yesterday for a story, and the stock seemed to be pretty okay. But i want to show you what laura tweeted out what she found when she went to the market, the bare toilet paper shelf and it takes us all the way back to march. Nbc bay area crews found the same at other big box stores, local groeshers. Unlike in march where it was a free for all, stores quickly put limits in place so everyone can find a little bit of what they need. Expect that as you head out to shop. Also expect stricter limits on capacity inside the stores especially in counties now in the purple tier which lowers that indoor capacity that is alameda, contra costa, santa clara, napa, santa cruz and solano. Marin, San Francisco and san mateo have more limited capacity as they are now under the red tier. This is video from a Grocery Store in portland, oregon, from yesterday. While retailers say the timing is tough with people stocking up to stay put and stocking up for thanksgiving in Washington State the governor says the supply chain is looking strong. It is really not necessary and most unhelpful right now. Our supply chain is strong, it really hurts everybody. No necessity of it right now. Reporter be patient as you head out because you might have to wait if line as we did in march to get into a store as the capacity limits are top of mind and also, remember, youre going to have to wear that mask because it is now a requirement everywhere except for in your own car and your own office or when youre eating or drinking as you all just reported. In san jose, kris sanchez, today in the bay. Just got to be a way of life right now. 5 37. B. A. R. T. , of course, hit hard by plummeting ridership. They will vote on a new belt tightening measure. And, laura, our storm ranger very busy scanning the skies for muchneeded rain and, of course, it is coming in most places today eventually. You can see San Francisco, san jose, walnut creek, all clear skies but, of course, if youve been listening to meteorologist kari hall you know that will change today because that rain is coming. So great to see these storm systems coming in. This one looking a little bit juicier than the one we had at the end of last week so its going to bring us higher rainfall totals in parts of the north bay. Storm ranger showing that as we get ready to head out on this Tuesday Morning we are mostly clear, but look at the time line for the rain as we go into late morning. We start to see it moving into parts of the north bay. Well talk more about this coming up. Mike, any issues right now for the commute . Yeah, a shortterm one, i hope. Were looking at oakland and when they have construction it picks up just before 6 00. Slowing northbound. You see the taillights stacking up to the top of the screen. The high rise. The same thing shows up on our map. Red sensors there north of the coliseum and thats because of the construction crew which is clearing. Should be cleared by 6 00 just as scheduled but that means a little slowing right now. 580 westbound is of course clear and shouldnt have a problem after you get there. That will mean more traffic heading to the bay bridge so well give you a look at the toll plaza in the next report. A look at the big view. No other slowing. Back to you. Thanks, mike. 5 40 now. As we go through the time line today were going to see some heavy rain possible in parts of the north bay at 10 00. And moving through parts of northern Sonoma County. We are going to see some clearing at times but there still will be some rain chances in the forecast through tonight as well as early tomorrow. We may even see some rain by tomorrow afternoon, so just give us some additional rainfall totals that unsettled weather continues. As we look at the rainfall totals we may see most of us noticed about a tenth to half of an inch of rain. Well see that in parts of the east bay. Lets go to the north bay.
