Groups of counterprotesters taking to the streets after President Trump supporters held a mass demonstration earlier today. That march was largely peaceful, but as night fell you can see c confrontations erupted with police trying to keep the peace. In walnut creek during a Racial Justice demonstration. Some demonstrators were even seen burning flags reading trump 2020, the culmination of another politically charged day even two weeks following the election. Nbc bay area Sergio Quintana has more. Reporter in washington, d. C. Clashes tonight after thousands turned out for a rally for the president and counterprotesters mobilized to confront. Them in one incident someone appears to throw a firework where a group of Trump Supporters had been dining, but its unclear what led up to it dramatic scene. The confrontations punctuate what had been allowed a chargely peaceful show of support for the president throughout the day. And President Trump rewarded those who turned out with a slow drive by in his motorcade. In video posted to social media you can see the president waving from inside his armored suv before continuing onto play golf. Some attendees drove from far and wide for this event. In sacramento a smaller event but with the same message. They support the president despite his electoral loss and several recent court defeats in his ongoing effort to fight the results. As supporters of the president continue to mobilize, opponents are already pushing president elect biden to issue a slew of executive orders to roll back many of trumps policies. In San Francisco demonstrators called on the Incoming Biden Administration to release people who have been swept up in President Trumps immigration crack downs. Most importantly i would like to see all these people out of the detention centers. I want to tee every single human being out. Reporter that includes immigrants who have have detained for minor infractions like speeding tickets and children separated from their parents as they crossed the border. President trump has pledged to immediately restore the daca program and review all of President Trump immigration polici policies. More violence in d. C. Tonight. Not a lot of information being released. We dont know how badly that person is hurt or who that person is. At least 20 people have been arrested in tonights demonstrations. Go to nbcbayarea. There are now more than 68,000 people hospitalized with covid19 across the country. Thats more than any other point during the pandemic. Heres the situation here in california. You can see this summer the number of people hospitalized with the virus peaked in the month of july. Then it began to drop steadily, but over the past ten days weve started to see a slight rise. Today 3,500 people are in the hospital with covid. Tonight millions around the world are celebrating the hindu festival of light diwali. This year the pandemic has dimmed that celebration. Reporter last year during diwali this Indian Restaurant in fremont was packed with people waiting to get in, a much different scene tonight as people chose to celebrate quietly at home. Just a few customers came in to celebrate diwali tonight. Normally the festival of life is one of the busiest nights of the year. The pandemic changed that. So few customers came in the restaurant decided not to offer the traditional mound of sweets today. Instead a missed opportunity tonight as Alameda County still allows Indoor Dining. Unlike San Francisco and three other counties starting next week. With coronavirus cases on the rise throughout the Bay Area Health leaders are encouraging people not to travel and to only gather with those in your immediate household. Santa clara county has seen such a surge that it will be one of the counties to stop Indoor Dining next week. And a move to the most restrictive purple tier may soon come next. I am anticipating that were going to reach that tier sooner rather than later. And i also anticipate that all the counties around us are going to reach it as well. Its another blow for restaurants already struggling during the pandemic. But owners arent giving up. Instead theyre getting creative. Some of them are working to make diners more comfortable outside during Colder Weather by adding extra heaters and umbrellas. Others are refocusing efforts on take out and curbside pickup. Owners again working to adapt and do their part to keep people safe even at the cost of losing business. We understand that its in the best interest of Public Safety and health, so we understand that. But running a business we have our we have our responsibilities to the people that work for us. And this is just going to make it a little bit more difficult and challenging for us to be able to be sustainable. A shocked rebuke from the department of homeland security. Today a federal judge in new york city said that chad wolf has not been acting lawfully as chief of homeland security. For tomorrow temperatures are going to warm up a little bit around the south bay and a slight chance of showers around the north bay heading into the afternoon and a better chance as we get towards tuesday wednesday and a better chance of seeing a little sierra snow. A few areas now dropping into the low 40s. Even a few areas closing on the upper 40s in napa. 51 currently in San Francisco as you see right there. One of the things well be watching as we head toward the morning is more fog forming in the east bay and south bay locations like we had this morning. 46 right now. No fog in walnut creek. Similar temperature in san jose. Home of the 40. San jose spartans winning tonight. That was good to see. And heres a look at the fog right now. You can see relatively low visibility around the bay. North bay locations will begin to see increasing crowds. If youre santa rosa northward during the day tomorrow youll have your best bet of seeing a few scattered showers. Most of that likely will be stirring up towards mendocino and lake counties. Notice how its mostly sunny south of San Francisco. Right there you see the cloudy skies during the day and a chance of seeing a few light rain showers. And there you go really nothing to measure south of santa rosa. Most of the action staying up towards Mendocino County here to wrap up the weekend. So the seven day forecast shows the next window of opportunity arriving as we go into tuesday which looks to be the wettest day of the week. A little breezy tuesday night. Wednesday some showers and well start to clear as we go through the week. And heres how things look with that tuesday to wednesday storm. As it begins to approach well begin to see the potential i think for most of the bay area to get at least 0. 25 to 0. 5 inches of rain. And clearly on this map you see both of these longrange models show the hills of the north bay and Santa Cruz Mountains actually see about a halfinch of rain. Still cold enough by the way to drop more snow in the sierra tuesday night through the day wednesday. Be happy to see that, another foot of snow heading towards the sierra. That really is the one weather system of the week. A few systems pass on by. And as we head towards monday of the following week, storm doesnt look like its shutting down. More opportunities there. Maybe not showing in the seven day forecast beyond tuesday and wednesday, but that ten day outlook late next week continues to bring the storms on in. More rain chances on the way and more sierra snow which is everything we want to see in a year thats had some extended fire season.
