Scott, is this a political power play . Reporter yeah, this is you could call it that, janelle. This could last a little while. Let me give i just one example of what the team says its concerned about here at the arena. Over here is santa clara street. This is the street that runs in front of the arena. And right now it runs four lanes strong, but one of the plans would shrink that to just two lanes. The team says its concerned that would leave many fans frozen in gridlock. As work progresses around san joses deer adon station, the looming Google Development has one nearby tenant feeling left out the sharks. We were born here. We grew up here. Wed love to stay here. We will essentially suffocate the arena. Reporter with that in mind, the team sent this letter to its fans, warning of too much construction, not enough parking, and restricted access to fans and concertgoers, warning that if something cant be changed, the team could leave. This is our home. We dont want to go. But at some point if it becomes unfeasible to be here, we have to consider that. Id hate to see the sharks move. Reporter san joses mayor says hes confident both sides can come together. I am confident that nothing we do will in any way hasten the departure of the franchise from the city. Reporter now, team teal says it has gotten together with google and really has no beef with the tech giant. The sharks say their big problem is actually with the city of san jose on this. By the way, you can comment, if youd like. The city of san jose has a City Council Meeting coming up on monday, the 16th. Public comment is accepted. Live at the arena, scott budman, nbc bay area news. Scott, thank you. It is a year like no other, and with the holidays right around the corner, in fact the holidays are here, will San Franciscos union square be open for the holidays . Until just a few days ago, nearly all the businesses were boarded up, bracing for any sort of civil unrest after the president ial election. But today we saw signs that shop owners are getting ready for shoppers. The plywood is gone from the windows of many of the stores, and the city put up the Union Square Christmas tree. Business leaders say theyre hoping for the best and trying to find ways to attract people to come. Things are boarded up, and its, you know, kind of a sad time. And the stores arent too busy like they used to be, and hopefully more people will come. I think its the covid. My hope is people spend as much as they were going to spend and that they look at other ways to celebrate christmas. Its such a big part of our tradition at union square. This weekend, Indoor Dining will be off limits again in San Francisco. That wont help. But restaurants in the area are winterizing their outdoor areas for cold weather so people can continue to eat outdoors. The Christmas Tree will be lit next week along with the light show to project snowflakes on the surrounding buildings. President trump is not backing down. Organizers say cash for trash is a win win. We have launched this program because we recognize theres far more that we can do in partnership with our homeless residents who want to be part of that solution. San jose mayor sim liccardo says more than two dozen people have already enrolled in the Pilot Program. A dmv office in the east bay is shutting down. Janelle, is it 2021 yet . I think we have seven more weeks. 2020 is almost over. To help us get through this especially for the people who really need help, a 10yearold girl from palo alto. Nbc bay areas Garvin Thomas shares her story in tonights t bay area proud. Reporter tessa burney is seriously all of us these days. Just ask her how shes doing, and shell answer politely. Its been pretty good, you know. Reporter but then scratch the surface and ask this palo alto 10yearold to really tell you what life has been like in the year of covid, and tessa will be much, much more honest. Bad. Bad, yeah. Reporter sheltering at home and learning away from school have not made for a fun year for this sixth grader. Tessa says shes barely seen her best friend in person since the pandemic started. I think i can take this one. Reporter but if youre wondering why tessa is busy these days, packing bag after bag of what she calls her italian dinner kits so a pass ta goes inside and sauce. Reporter this is why tessa maybe isnt exactly like the rest of us. Then we also get a positive note inside. This one says, ciao, enjoy your meal. Reporter tessa knows as tough as she has had it, there are those who have had it much tougher, like those having trouble feeding their families. This all started, tessa said, when her mom told her about a local family of four who didnt have all the food they needed. And so i thought, like, well, i want to help these people, but i cant write a check and like cash it in to the bank or anything because i just i just cant do that. Reporter what tessa could do is post on her moms nextdoor account asking for help, and help she got. A lot of it. Enough food for more than 60 meals has been dropped off at tessas home, and shes now donating all of it to peninsula family service. It is probably not the biggest donation theyll get this year, but it certainly is one of the most meaningful. If you are also like me, young but you also want to help reporter because while the pandemic will end one day, its a good bet that tessa is just getting started. I really think that i just went beyond my capabilities here. I think im proud of myself. Reporter Garvin Thomas, nbc bay area news. We are proud of you too. She is well spoken. I think i went beyond my capabilities here. Thats great. Thank you, tessa. Like tessa, we can all help. We are teaming up with safeway for our annual nourishing neighbors food drive. The next time youre at a safeway, make a 10 donation. That money goes directly to our local food banks. So many people in need this year, especially in the pandemic. Lets check in with chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. I went outside briefly and it felt so nice to have the sun beating on me, much warmer than it was a few days ago. You got that right. And hopefully everybody got outside to enjoy it like you did today because tomorrow going to be a lot different for us as that chance of rainfall is, well, holding on. I did want to start off tonight with a look at how were doing so far for the rainfall season. It was nice to get some rainfall over the past weekend. But it really has not been nearly enough to catch us up. As you can see on my weather chart here, the rain season starts on october 1st, and since then we have only seen trace amounts to 0. 03 of an inch of racism. A deficit of 1 1 4 inches in san jose. Santa rosa, weve just over 3 inches behind. This storm system wont catch us up but put a small dent in the numbers. Tomorrow a system moves down from the north. I think its going to start to break up as it gets close to the bay area but should manage to hold on for some rain for us from 2 00 p. M. Into 10 00 p. M. Tomorrow. Thats the zone of what im looking at for those rain chances. Storm ranger, our emotionmobiler radar currently showing that dry scan here from santa rosa down to san jose. You can go to the nbc bay area app. You can pull up the weather section, and you can click on the storm ranger truck and see what that storm ranger is showing as our rain arrives tomorrow. Check that out, nbc bay area app in the weather section. Well get you into the futureca futurecast. Tomorrow morning i think we are dry. We have the clouds with us, then the storm systems moving down from the north. Its not the best path for big rain. We need to see these storms move in from the west, pick up that pacific moisture. But nonetheless, well get rainfall developing by 2 00 p. M. Here on friday over the north bay. This will be a gradual push to the south as we head through tomorrow afternoon and evening. By 7 00 p. M. Well see some spotty showers over the east bay, the peninsula, and the south bay as well. Then eventually by 11 00 at night tomorrow, most of that activity would begin to move on out. So totals not extremely high, but i think were going for about 0. 05 inch. Its less as we move to the south. Be ready for that rainfall. Bring your umbrella and that jacket. Temperatures will start off on the cool side but not as cold as weve been. The cloud cover acts like a blanket. 47 in the south bay. 40s for the east bay, San Francisco, and the north bay. Well warm up tomorrow but not a whole lot. 58 in santa rosa. 60 in livermore. 59 san jose. My forecast in palo alto at 58. So hold on to a chance of a spotty shower into early saturday morning. Then most of the weekend will be dry, also into monday, and some spotty chances of rain tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. Right here across the inland valleys were also looking at a spotty chance into early saturday morning. Then were drying out saturday, sunday, monday with some more rain chances into next week. Raj and janelle, i did the tally, and im sure everybody at home will be happy to hear that after 17 days of 100 or hotter this summer, i do not see any coming our way over the next couple of weeks or months for that matter.
