Both of the districts are tasks with completing a very complex plan that would ensure both the safety of their students and of their teachers and this morning were learning what those district plans could look like specifically San Francisco unified. Those plans need to be completed no later than december 8th. According to the examiner the district has until the 8th to release a plan that includes a start date for all elementary students. The plan so far includes a specific start date of january 25th. For some students with disabilities as well as students in first grade or younger. They have until january to create a plan for middle and high school students. The district has a lot to keep in mind as you can imagine in creating this plan including how to incorporate social distancing and have proper ventilation. The examiner revealed a reopening could cost as much as 84 million for the district. Sf unified is expected to release details of their progress of that plan at the next Board Meeting which is a week from today. And while the citys district works to create a plan, School Leaders in palo alto have revealed their plan and if approved by the board the proposed hybrid model is expected to begin as early as january 7th. Under the new plan the second half of the school year will look completely different than anything we have seen in years passed. They will have to enter due to specific times. There wont be lockers and students will be expected to use assigned seats and in terms of School Lunches that will be grab and go style. Again, nothing is completely finalized right now. Both districts have to have their plans approved by the board so come january its a possibility that thousands of students here in the bay area could be entering yet another new normal as the nation works to get hold of covid19. This is the third challenge to end up before the Supreme Court which upheld the law in 2012. 1. 5 million californians under covered california. California and 19 other states asking the court to uphold the law say individuals can choose not to buy the insurance and that is not unconstitutional. The new number is more than 100 higher than the 545 reported last month. The attorney leading the effort to reunite families explains thats because it includes children who did not have contact phone numbers. The new surge in covid cases in some bay area counties concerned about new rollbacks could have a big impact on struggling businesses. Today in the bays bob redell joins us live in san ramon this morning. Bob, Contra Costa County is one county seeing an increase in the infection. Reporter correct, laura. And later today the state will announce which counties can move forward in their reopening plans, which counties might have to move back. Contra costa county is worried that sacramento might force it back into the red tier of reopenings. Take a look at your tv screen. As you can see on this map contra costa and several other bay area counties are right now in the orange tier of reopening because they were able to reduce their covid19 infections to a moderate rate of spread. But ever since coco entered the orange tier on october 7th and loosened restrictions in places like restaurants and other gathering places, the number of cases has increased. Last week the Health Officer here cut back on the number of people allowed in restaurants, movie theaters and churches in an attempt to republreduce that. Santa clara county cases jumped to more than 350. Hospitalizations are also up. Dr. Sara cody warns that Santa Clara County is trending back into the red, possibly purple tier which could then lead to more restrictions. The coowner of the table restaurant in willow glen is urging the county to let her continue Indoor Dining arguing that restaurants like hers are not the problem. Were following all the proper procedures and the spike in cases are due to people gathering for halloween and private gatherings, so why dont you pope lease that instead of Small Businesses . Today supervisors will consider banning natural gas and all new construction. If that ordinance passes they would have to have all electric power beginning january 1st.
