But yeah, it seems likely that trump is out right now, americans are looking at each other like the below deck crew after a crazy guest finally gets off the boat [ laughter ] not even a good tip. Nothing. Meanwhile, the irs is like, seriously we just finished that audit on his taxes. We just [ laughter ] we just finished it. What a time for joe biden to be president. He now gets to deal with a a pandemic, a cratering economy and most annoying of all, a not even close to finished construction project on the border [ laughter ] yeah, it looks like joe biden could be our next president. If you count the illegal votes, they can try to steal the election from us jimmy when asked how he can just get up and lie about out democracy, trump was like, im sorry, are you new here . They talked about jared kushner. Theyve talked about someone like an ivanka trump jimmy right now dr. Fauci is like, me me pick me ill do it i would love to do it please please pick me i mean, how is jared going to break that to trump . Its like, yes, you lost. And finally, now that it seems like the election is coming to an end, people are talking about what trump will do next. I would absolutely expect the president to stay involved in politics. And absolutely put him on a short list of people who are likely to run in 2024. Jimmy me too and so i did it like, you know, quarantine happened and what was going on in the world was going on in the world and i wanted to go see my sisters one was in utah and another one is up in oregon. And as i was going through, i was like really researching this, and i was trying to find a spot where i could pick one up along the way you know, i had my truck, so i was good and then when i i brokered a deal with a dealer up in oregon so i bought it in oregon, and then i drove it back down to l. A and then i drove across to georgia, and then all the way back jimmy oh, my gosh. Thats the dream thats the dream, dude yeah. Jimmy thats something i think about doing. I dont know if ill ever, i mean, have the chance to do it, really just awesome well, you know what you ought to do is you fly out somewhere where im gonna be well hang out, well drive around the block, and ill drop you off at the airport so you get the experience of it, but you dont have to worry about pumping your own stuff jimmy thats my man. See, thats what friends are for, bud yeah. Jimmy i want to get to this is us, and i want to talk to you about the new season uhhuh. Jimmy but during the pandemic, people have been bingewatching every show they can, and youve been on tv for many years and my first debut with you was Gilmore Girls and you know mmhmm. Jimmy but can you tell when people are bingewatching one of your shows . Oh, yeah. I mean, usually, you know, social media will kind of light up and you can tell where the show was being released and at what moment. Like toward the end of quarantine it became evident that we had a new season down in argentina, in brazil. So, you know, you see the messages and people popping up jimmy thats great and then recently, i think now theyre cycling back through it in italy. Jimmy wow. And like seeing whats going on back in europe, youre like, oh, you guys are back indoors. Youre not out, you know, having a pizza and coffee anymore. Jimmy yeah i get it i get it jimmy yeah, but i love that you get to entertain its global now. You know, it used to be just an american thing yeah. Jimmy in american tv, and now its worldwide thats pretty cool yeah. Yeah, i mean, you know, and the pearsons are absolutely kind of, you know, americas family in a way but really what i see most still still is people going back and watching Gilmore Girls. It always goes back to jess. Always goes back to jess jimmy im team jess. Day one, team jess i know you are. Jimmy yeah, have to be i know. Jimmy absolutely, buddy. Yeah. Jimmy oh, i love that. I love that. Yeah. Jimmy its interesting that you play like the bad boy and then you play jack whos the probably the best dude on earth. Hes the nice hes one of them, man jimmy hes one of the good guys yeah, hes one of the good guys but i mean, ill tell you what, those are hard shoes to fill at times. Jimmy exactly. You know, ive had moments in life where people expect me to be jack. And like, you know, ill be honest, i mean, i think jack borrows from milo and milo borrows from jack. Or milo gets the benefit of wearing the jack face all the time but man, its tough living up to it sometimes. It really is if you notice like sometimes when i do a lot of press, ill talk about jacks flaws just to humanize myself a little bit kind of let myself off the hook a little jimmy yeah no, yeah, but if you are anyway in a bad mood, youre just be like [ deep breathing ] you got to be jack right now. Yeah yeah, she is jimmy were you all back at work when you found out . Where were you no, no, we werent. So over the course of quarantine, we had, as a cast, as a group, facetimed with one or had a big zoom together and we kept up, made sure everyone was okay but then, as we were getting ready to film, we had a zoom with fogelman, where fogelman was actually kind of giving us lay of the land. What the protocols were looking like and if anybody was going to be uncomfortable with them, like speak up or hold your peace. And then he hopped off and we were all going around, like, hey, sterling, you good hey, chrissy, justin, like everyone feels good . Yeah, i feel good about it. Mandy and mandy wasnt talking. She wasnt talking and then she just kind of goes, well guys, i am pregnant. And i mean, you know, were jimmy crying exactly exactly, man crying, excited. You know i mean, shes lovely, shes great, shes amazing and like to know that a human being like mandy moore is going to be a a mom influencing a child in this earth just gives me hope for earth. Jimmy i want to talk about this part of this is us. This season that was hinted how rebecca and miguel got together after jack died. Yeah. Jimmy now we might find out a little more to that relationship but as jack, how do you feel about that relationship . Jacks dead so it doesnt really matter what jack thinks [ laughter ] i mean, lets be glaringly honest jimmy yes. You know, i thing listen, jack jack loves his wife. He loves his kids like no other. Jimmy yep. But at the same time, you know, jack wouldnt want his wife or kids to be unhappy without him. And, you know, i mean look, death is a pretty great equalizer when someone dies like yeah, i guess thats kind of over. So its not like miguel got in the way of jack and rebecca. It was just hey, rebecca was available. Jimmy yeah and they had a history of being close and friends and everything should start with the friendship jimmy i agree with that by the way. Yeah. Jimmy my wife and i started out as best friends. We were just friends loved hanging out. It was awesome i agree with that. And then before we did the interview you gave me your wifes phone number. So, oh boy [ laughter ] jimmy dude, im so embarrassed about that we have to talk about that next time youre on but i we have to, man thats incredible. Its incredible. Oh, i did, yeah, for the actual election, im like, whats the point of maps and numbers for three days that arent going to go anywhere, but sit there and make you go like, oh my god, is he going to win . jimmy yeah so, i went to up to big sur, and i went to a hotel where there was spotty wifi, spotty cell coverage, just me alone with my thoughts, and it was nice to really experience the pure existential panic and fear without being interrupted by televised existential panic and fear it was surprising. The small amount of information i was getting, was enough for me to freak out without any input whatsoever so, i was there looking at the ocean, just sitting there going like, oh man, were in trouble, man [ laughter ] this is not going well but its pretty look at the birds. Jimmy yeah so a couple of sweaty nights of panic but no tv and, i got home right in time yesterday to catch what was the turning point, which was very exciting and, i guess they voted out covid too, no more covid, which is nice. Thats a relief, because i was getting tired of that. Jimmy next thing they have to vote out is quarantine sourdough bread. Dude, i think thats over i saw that kind of trickle away within three months. You got these like, hipster dads and cute young moms like, look at the bread i made. But now theyre just like, where i bury my family. [ laughter ] the bread didnt hold me back. Enough with the bread, what do i do with the bodies . Jimmy that was all fake. It was covering up something yeah. Oh yeah. Just fury. Just like, this will be fun look, dads making bread. Three months later, dads a a monster. Jimmy dads getting a divorce. Make some more bread. The breads over. Give me some candy. So, i take it you havent done any baking, then well, you know, i do enjoy cooking. Im shucking my own oysters. And thats not code. Well, i guess it is, cause im doing that too but im actually i buy oysters and i shuck them i learned how to shuck them. You know, im going to need to know that in the future. Jimmy do you wear a chain glove . No, no, no. I watched a video. Im Getting Better at it but, i like to eat the oysters i do baking. I enjoy like i got it in my head last week a couple weeks ago. And one day, im just sort of like, aw man, life sucks. Im going to make that cake, and i put a lot of work into it you need a bundt pan, and youve got to poke holes in it to pour the butter in. It was a complicated bit of business, and i screwed up the last step. And i knew it jimmy yep. As i did it, like, i screwed up the cake but im like its probably still okay, its going to come out of the pan, and i turn over the bundt pan to take the cake out, and its stuck in the bundt pan. So now im just like livid im furious, and im like [ bleep ] im throwing it away so i start ripping the cake with my hands. Hot cake, with my hands, out of the bundt pan and throw it in the garbage. But i took a fist full of it its equivalent to maybe a a piece or two, and just start shoving it in my mouth and theyre throwing the rest away, shoving the hot cake in my mouth, which was terrific. But the problem was, i got all the food shame without the pride. I screwed up the cake, and was angry at myself, and i was eating it by the handful, which made me feel like a pig. So there was no joy. Very little joy. Jimmy yeah no just shame and fury but, a week later, i nailed it made the cake, and it came out perfect. But then, the other problem is, i was like very proud of my cake, but i live alone so, now i got to figure out how to unload the cake so, i am out in the street with my mask on my neighbor is like, troy, you want cake . How about some cake . And troys like, yeah. So, i go in the house, i bring troy some cake, and then i give it to him and that puts you in a weird situation, cause two hours later im kind of hanging around outside looking for troy, like, hey, how was the cake cake pretty good . And then hes like, its a little sweet. And im like, you know what the [ bleep ] do you want . It was free cake i didnt say that part out loud but thats what i was thinking about it jimmy dont judge. You just say it was good and go back inside. But then he said as i am walking away, you should open a bakery so i guess this is the announcement im opening a bakery jimmy this is not true before we get into your bakery, i want to talk about stardust. Because i am very excited about this im very excited about this. I love david bowie, and this is a story a very specific time in bowies life. Right, people are going, like its a biopic its not a biopic why am i holding a piece of paper towel on National Television because i am outside my house. The time period was before bowie was a star he had a hit with space oddity. But no one knew whether he was a novelty act or a one time thing. And he made the man who sold the world and it people did not know what to do with it. It was a dark record they kind of send him to america. In the movie, he does not have the right papers i am the only guy thats going to champion him. The label doesnt know what to do with it hes about to lose his deal but i think hes a genius. My part of the movie is him and i im trying to get him little gigs to play or be on the radio without the proper paperwork for him to play. We spent a lot of time driving in the car across country. He does not know who hes going to be or what he wants to be there is all these conversations about music and whether he believes in himself and there is a back story about his stepbrother who had mental problems and he was worried he was going to have mental problems. So it is a small slice of a young bowies life jimmy i love that. I know you love music. It is perfect for this because we always discuss music. I know you are a giant stone fan and me as well do you remember the first time you heard bowie . At a 7th grade dance. The song fame was a big hit. I remember this because it was a little local a. M. Deejay, he was coming to our school to host the dance so we are all excited to see bobby box hes basically a dwarf and he was a giant head in a strange plaid suit and we are like oh man. Jimmy that was a real deejay back then i found out john lennon was apart of that crew jimmy or it is like oh, the song is not about him because hes going is it about you i love finding that stuff. Do you remember lou reeds satellite of love . That was bowie jimmy i didnt know it listen to it, it is on transformer. Jimmy unbelievable you keep on giving me gifts. Next thing i want is cake.
