If you count the legal votes, i easily win. If you count the illegal votes, they can try to steal the election from us. The mailin ballots being counted there have trended strongly for biden, rapidly eroding the president s lead in pennsylvania. On twitter, President Trump demanding stop the count. Several other tweets claiming fraud were flagged as potentially misleading. The day began with a tightening race in georgia. Biden closing the gap on the president s lead and the opposite in arizona, where biden had a narrow edge. As the count ground on, tensions building in the streets with america watching and waiting. To be clear here, counting the ballots several days after the election day is common. Whats uncommon is that this time around, the vote is so close. So we are all waiting for these specific states to determine a winner. Lets bring in our nbc bay area political analyst larry gerston. Larry, we just saw President Trump address the country. Body language, he looked a bit deflated. What are his real options at this point . He doesnt have any options. The votes are going to be counted. And as theyre counted, theyll turn out whatever way. It looks like at the moment, that pennsylvania is going to go for biden. Why . Because all those mailin ballots that the democrats pushed and that went in were there waiting. Now, by pennsylvania law, by pennsylvanias law, youve got to count the dayof ballots first. Those other ballots were there the same day, the same day or before, but they had to wait until pennsylvania counted the day of voting. And of course those votes were disproportionately republican. So the question is which one wins, the ones the day of or the ones mailed in . Those ones mailed in were far more in number. And because of that, as they count the mailed in votes, biden is catching up and is expected to go ahead. Once he does that, it approaches 270 for the winner, and the winner it looks like at this point in time would be joe biden. Larry, what are the Top Republicans, mitch mcconnell, ted cruz, the whole gang, if theres any type of voter fraud, why arent they joining the president in exposing this . Look, the Top Republicans are in a world of hurt. Theyre in a world of hurt because they know that the president is wrong. You know that the president is not telling the truth, and yet on the thats on the one hand. On the other hand, they cant go ahead and say that because theyre still hooked to the president. Theyre still part of his party and have three more months to live with the president. That in itself says something, but its an unfortunate time for people like mcconnell, graham, and all of these the whole leadership because they know right from wrong. They know truth from lies, but theyre stuck. Theyre stuck. Well be watching the final days or final hours of trump . Well, the final days are going to last another three months, or almost until january 20th. But, look, all we can tell you is how things are going at the moment. We know that Vice President biden needs just a few more. He needs 17. Pennsylvania is 20. Now, he could win other ways too, but President Trump must have pennsylvania as part of his block. Thats how the numbers work. So if the numbers continue as they have really since tuesday night, if they continue, then you will be seeing a oneterm president. What happens between now and january 20th . You better hold on to your seats because its likely to be a very rocky 2 1 2 months. The last oneterm president who lost was george h. W. Neighbors were stunned. I just went out for a walk and came out and saw it hanging there. It scared me because i for a second, coming from the back end of it, it looked real. I was born and raised in brentwood. Ill lived here my entire life, and ive never seen something as hateful as this. Reporter neighbors say the man who lives there has been displaying trump signs and confederate flags for years. But they say this crossed the line. However, they also say it doesnt appear he committed a crime. Obviously it had the statement about Sleepy Joe Biden on it, so thats what this is addressing is the political side of it. Over the past couple of nights, a caravan of criminals looted a series of bay area stores, in the east bay specifically from pot dispens y dispensaries to Sporting Goods shops. The Alameda CountySheriffs Department says a group of 20 people smashed the doors to the big 5 store in san lorenzo around 9 30 last night. They made out with cases of ammunition and pellet guns but no firearms. The walmart across the street was also hit, and a few hours later, a crew of thieves were spotted running out of the exclusive shoe store near san pablo avenue. They stole 100 pairs of yeezy brand sneakers, clothes, and electronics. Theyre very organized. They coordinate and cooperate and communicate with each other, and they are very mobile. So by the time Law Enforcement gets there, theyre already on their way out. Then on tuesday, thieves hit an oakland pharmacy and two dispensaries, shooting a security guard. Oakland police also shot and killed a 20yearold man after they say he ran into a car he ran a car into several officers. Okay. This Holiday Season can come with an extra hurdle this year. A mandatory quarantine for california travelers. Bay Area Health Officers are concerned that when Holiday Travelers return, they could come back with more than holiday cheer. Nbc bay areas Anoushah Rasta takes a closer look at the impact of having people quarantine after a holiday trip. Reporter california and especially the bay area are making a lot of progress in keeping covid19 cases low, and Health Officers want to keep it that way. Were seeing about 27 cases per 100,000 People Per Day nationally, on average. In the bay area, were about four. Reporter Marin County Public Health officer dr. Matt willis and other bay Area Health Officers are now focused on how to best avoid a holiday coronavirus surge. The safest way to protect yourself over the holidays is to not travel, is to stay home. Reporter bay Area Health Officers are also discussing whether or not to issue an advisory for the holidays that would include a 7 or 14day quarantine for anyone traveling into the bay area from out of state so they dont bring the virus with them and then spread it. Some travelers flying into san joses Airport Support the idea and think people should already be doing it. I just got here for the holidays early so that i could quarantine. Reporter others say its too much. I wouldnt travel because nobody can afford to spend 14 days wherever theyre going before they actually do anything. I think honestly if people are getting tested and theyre good to go, they should be able to fly and not have to quarantine for 14 days because not only are you traveling for holidays for a week but you have to add an additional two weeks on both ends of that. Janelle, that latino vote, though, is very different depending on what state youre in and where youre from. Exactly. For example, in arizona, long known as a deep red state, if biden wins there, he would be the first democratic president ial candidate to win that state in 24 years. The last democratic president ial candidate to win there was bill clinton during his reelection race back in 1996. And before that was harry s. Truman back in 1948. So the latino group make up one of the most important groups in deciding this election. The u. S. Electoral map doesnt look that different from 2016, but states like florida, texas, arizona, and North Carolina are experiencing a shift driven by a wave of new latino voters. This wave, also seen right here in san jose on election day, voters waited more than 90 minutes at this polling place in san joses mexican heritage plaza, the heart of the south bay Latino Community. A local Political Science professor says this should be a wakeup call for everyone. Its a multipronged approach with the Latino Community. We know that there are things that the Latino Community does prioritize, and immigration being one. But its not the top. Its not like the number one thing. The progressiveleaning group latino decisions polled a slice of latino voters and found nationally about 70 supported joe biden. Just 27 voted for donald trump, except in florida, where support for biden dipped dramatically. President trump won florida thanks to the latino vote, specifically cubanamericans, who make up a Large Population in the miamidade area. Why . Some nbc political experts believe its because the republican ads portrayed biden as a socialist candidate, appealing to exiled cuban and venezuelanamericans. So as states slowly change colors, if theres a takeaway from latino voters this year, they are not a singular voting bloc with singular issues. They are a politically Diverse Group and view the election with different lenses based on their age, their economic opportunities, and perhaps their familys journey to america.
