And not only is the community happy, but Santa Clara Countys registrar of voters say they believe this kind of turnout may have them hoping for a 90 turnout. The record here in Santa Clara County is 86 in 2008, boosted by a large early vote. And of course late turnouts like this one. Thats it from the mexican Heritage Plaza. Back to you. It is an Election Night tradition, watch parties across the bay area, across the country. A little different tonight. With covid not as many parties and people, but still a hot spot for democrats. Mannys in San Francisco, ian, what are we seeing . Reporter mannys is the spot to be if you are in San Francisco. The loudest cheers of the entire night. It has been anxious, it has been calm. But the loudest cheers of the night just happened when one of the networks called california for biden. A lot of people here say theyve been very nervous watching these returns come in, in states where they thought biden possibly could have done a little bit better. This Election Watch Party tonight, many got a permit from the city to close down valencia between 15th and 16th so they could have people here, socially distanced, serve up food, and get some people together. Mannys went up on stage and said no matter what happens, we have each other. And were here for one another tonight. And so now the crowd, now that the west coast results are starting to come in, is getting a little more excited, more cheerful. Ian, thank you. 2016, it was around 8 00 p. M. When things started to shift toward donald trump over Hillary Clinton. A lot of republicans are on the peninsula and theres a lively gathering in san mateo tonight. Marianne favro is there. Theres probably excitement with the way florida has turned out and the way texas is leaning. Reporter well, this is a very enthusiastic crowd here in san mateo. Take a look over here. They are watching the stream very intently, waiting for the latest results to come in. There are 100 people here at this event, and they are socially distanced. You can see a lot of them are wearing maga hats. They are dressed in red. And they are also waving american flags. And just a few minutes ago they even did some President Trump trivia where we learned that President Trumps degree in college was economics. Even though the bay area is notoriously known as a democratic area, it has a stronghold for years, people here say they are very confident that President Trump will, in fact, be reelected for another four years. And they are here to show their support. Back to you. Okay, Marianne Favro on the peninsula. It is 8 03, the polls closed in california three minutes ago. What happens next in terms of how many votes are already counted, how many votes are still being processed . Stephen stock is at the San Mateo County registrars office. This is an issue youve been covering for a longtime. What is the situation tonight . Reporter jessica, they just closed the doors officially here in san mateo. Theres a couple voters who are still voting but they got in before the 8 00 deadline. In San Mateo County, they had over 300,000 votes, vote by mail, ahead of time. In fact, some 80 of their entire registered voters across the state, 11. 8 million. Thats out of a record 22 million registered voters. And of course, there are problems, as our Investigative Unit found, with some of the mailin ballots. When you dont sign the ballot, when the signatures dont match. In San Mateo County, this is their fifth election where theyre using the vote by mail. And the problems have diminished. Were down to less than 2,000 votes out of hundreds of thousands that have any kind of issue with them at all. So well be watching throughout the evening and making sure that the count goes as scheduled. Right now, everything is going smoothly. Back to you. Stephen, thank you. The other thing thats important is theyre going to be counting them not just for hours but for days because theyve been given a threeday extension. And so they have up until friday. Ballots that have been postmarked by today, the United States Postal Service will be delivering those ballots right here for them to be counted up until friday. And the governor of pennsylvania has said to everyone be calm, be patient, and be confident every single one of your votes will be counted. Its just going to take some time. Lester . All right. Reporter savannah, a while ago we saw a remarkable scene. Ground game, strong ground game during the middle of a pandemic. Right now were at a grassroots kind of watch party. You can see this zoom screen behind me. Just a little while ago we saw hundreds of cars of these organizers and these these latinobased Community Groups coming together, dropping off their canvassing gear then going home and joining this Virtual Dance Party to watch some of those returns come in. They have been working here on the ground in arizona for over a decade now. In fact, she was just telling me, the one in the black right here, she started at the age of 12 years old. Marching against joe arpaio. And she has been working just along with a lot of the other people here to try to vote donald trump out of office. Theyre optimistic because they say since 2016 the state of arizona has changed quite a bit. For one, we now have 700,000 more registered voters than we did in 2016. And when you talk to them, theyll tell you very quickly that they registered 100,000 of those 700,000 new voters. So thats something that theyre looking at. But right now were looking at about 75 of the vote in. We know that thats about 2. 4 Million People that have cast their ballots. That theyve already got up. We know 2. 6 Million People voted early. So the rest of those early vote numbers should be coming in a little bit later tonight. We also know that around Maricopa County things went off relatively seamlessly today so those numbers also should be coming in tonight. But at this point still no clear word on when we could get poll results. Guys, back to you. All right. Thank you. We noted a minute ago that california has fallen into the biden column. Joling kent is in anaheim for us. Jo ling, good evening to you. Reporter hey, lester, good evening. Were seeing the final few voters cast their ballots here in anaheim at this School District location. Now, what we know from 2016 and earlier even this evening is it was pretty busy but none of the same long lines that many were expecting. And the reason is because over a million ballots were cast by mail according to the Orange County registrar. They were able to get the ballots out in october, get them processed. The reason they were able to process them so quickly and starting to drop those results right now is because of the massive investment the Orange County registrar has made. With taxpayer dollars. Millions of dollars invested in new technology to make this possible. Now, Orange County, of course, a longtime favoring of moderate republicans. Going for mccain and romney. Then going for Hillary Clinton back in 2016. But what we continue to see is a very smooth operation throughout Orange County. I talked to the Orange County registrar today. Spent the day with him. And he said in terms of fraud and issues with ballots, concerns about ballots, its only about 1 so far. They have a system where they bring in the ballots, open them with a highspeed machine and match those signatures as part of that process. So all of that signature matching that so many people have been concerned about across the country is actually done by specially trained workers here in Orange County. So, so far very smooth across the board. Lines of relatively manageable because of that huge, huge surge in mailin voting, guys. Jo ling kent, thanks very much. Senator, first off, donald trump has just been declared the winner of your home state. And he seems to be doing well in ohio. Does it give you great concern about the blue wall and joe bidens strength as this race seems to be pushing now toward the midwest . No, because you have to remember that donald trump won missouri by almost 20 points 4 years ago. He won ohio by i think close to ten, eight or nine. So, in wisconsin and michigan and pennsylvania, it was all, like, less than one point. So, they were close to being in the other column in the last election. Thats why the strategy has been from the beginning to take the three states back that trump won in a very close election with a candidate, frankly, fair or unfair, had very high unfavorables, unlike joe biden who still ended up at the end of a president ial campaign with more people saying they like him than not. Lets go to you, rich lowry. President has a path to 270. Requires inside so good in terms of the results weve seen. However, arizona might be giving the Trump Campaign a few heart palpitations at the moment. How do you see it . Yeah, so the question of this night, savannah, always was could trump get to pennsylvania . Could he get to the point where pennsylvania would matter and potentially be decisive . Looks like hes going to make it there. Even if arizona falls off the map, he can still win pennsylvania and get to a 269269 tie. The house, for complicated reasons we dont want too get into right now, we dont want anyone breaking into the liquor cabinets bringing up this possibility. Hes getting to where pennsylvanias going to matter. That seems clear tonight. And also the odds of Republicans Holding the senate as chuck alluded to earlier with thom till tillis, republican incumbent looking better if pennsylvania, the odds have increased over the course of the night. And even if joe biden wins, if theres a republican senate, that would mean his legislative agenda would basically be dead on arrival from the beginning. So, so far tonight, republicans are feeling pretty good. Andrea . On pennsylvania, because of the threeday vote, that was a Supreme Court decision. Giving them three days do count early votes which as you point out could not be counted until the polls close today. They got three days to count that early vote. Theres a lot of votes out there in pennsylvania. If this is close, thats going to matter. The president has been complaining about it every single day. At every stop. Hes talked about this. How its unfair, hes going to have his lawyers out. The lawyers have seen more republican challenges in pennsylvania the last couple weeks than any other state. They lost the big one in the Supreme Court of a threeday vote, but they could do another end run around it. The biden team is ready for that. They have some of the best lawyers in the country ready for exactly what they expect to happen. I think thats why chuck called that the nightmare scenario, it all comes down to pennsylvania because theyll be sending in the lawyers. Exactly. Nobody wants that. Nobody wants the lawyers. But this was a swing state until Hillary Clinton lost it by nine points and thought is iowa going to go with ohio . Its bouncing back a bit. I think at the end of the day biden probably comes up short. I do want to show you here, looking at slightly more of the earl l i voy vote has come in t todays vote which probably why biden has a narrow lead. You do see where he is definitely improved upon Hillary Clinton. We got almost all of Dallas County in. Suburban county of des moines. Trumps narrowly ahead. You can see here, look at that, 5 of the gary johnson vote has basically all gone to biden. Biden narrowed it, picked up the gary johnson vote here. Hillary clinton lost by nine, and so ive noticed in a lot of areas you see that joe biden is improving on Hillary Clinton margins. Im seeing him at about four, five, points. Dubuque county is one we were really interested in because this is a county trump flipped very narrowly and arguably flipped it because Hillary Clinton gary johnson got 4 . As you can see here, joe biden doing well. Dubuque county is a Traditional Democratic county. Lot of Union Workers over here. This is where donald trump, though, overperformed. Is this early vote or dayof vote . 50 50 were seeing in iowa. Mixed it up a little bit. Slightly more early vote than sameday vote. Iowa is facing up to be fairly competitive. Keep an eye on this because the senate race and this president ial race will be in sync. Two candidates will be off by a point at best. All right. Joining us now, democratic senator chris coons of delaware at biden headquarters in wilmington tonight. Senator, thank you so much for being with us. Walk me through it, pick up arizona, maybe you lose georgia, maybe you lose North Carolina. Whats the likely, most the shortest path to 270 for biden . As you pointed out, there are several paths for joe biden to be elected our next president. We have to remember over 100 million americans voted early whether in person or by mail and as chuck was just pointing out, there are different rules in different states for whether they are already counted and are already reporting that early vote or whether theyre just beginning counting it and wont report it for several days. Im hearing encouraging things about ohio, about arizona, about iowa. So i think there still remains several paths for joe biden tonight. While President Trump has a very narrow path and, frankly, id rather be in our camp than his tonight. We have to remember that every vote needs to be counted before we conclude this election. Counts, vote counts happen at the state and county level. And we have a number of states and counties that have already indicated they wont be done counting votes for several days. Senator coons, with the exception possibly of arizona, it looks more and more like joe biden is going to have to rely on that blue wall turning michigan, wisconsin, and pennsylvania back into the democratic corner. How do you feel about what youve heard from your sources on the ground about how the industrial midwest is playing out for joe biden . Well, ive been texting and calling with my Senate Colleagues as well as local elected officials and organizers in several states today. The ones you just referenced. And im optimistic. I think were ultimately going to have a great outcome for joe biden and kamala harris. Have the right message from the beginning of this campaign about bringing people together. Getting us out of this pandemic. And Building Back stronger our economy. But we just have to be patient and make sure that every vote gets counted in what ultimately may be one of several paths toward a victory by joe biden tonight. The trump or tomorrow. The Trump Campaign threw out minnesota as a possible pickup for them. Do you see that in the cards . Is it something youre worried about . I really dont. What im hearing from minnesota elected officials, ive touched base with, is that although minnesota is a state where you can show up and vote at the last moment, they dont see anything thats happened on the ground today that suggests to them that donald trump may unexpectedly take minnesota. Senator, we have to say congratulations to you. You won your race. Turns out you also had a campaign to run, but what about whats going on in the senate . I know democrats had high hopes of taking back the senate. Some of the races are not turning out as expected, in particular, North Carolina, thom tillis, the republican incumbent, appearing to do better than many, many expected. Well, so far, ive been encouraged by the outcomes in colorado and likely in arizona. Im sorry for my colleague, doug jones, who you called to not be reelected, but hes done a great job in the senate. And i think theres other news tonight that is encouraging in georgia and in other states. But in several states that we expect to pick up senate seats in, it is still too close to call. All right. Lets show you some of those numbers. Authorities put 1 of the precincts reporting, joe biden with a commanding lead, 67 of the vote. Thats why this state has now been called for joe biden. No longer do we have traditional watch parties with live music and hundreds of people, but there are smaller gatherings. This is a live look at a Democratic Watch Party at mannys in San Francisco. The peninsula, the Republican Central Committee of san mateo hosting this event, a soldout event with 100 people, republicans are feeling confident. Interesting to note, 11 Million People sent in their ballots early. Thats half of californias 22 million registered voters. Heres a live look behind the scenes at the San Mateo County registrars office. They have already countied all the early ballots. Tonight theyre counting all the ballots from today. Also keeping an eye on our statewide propositions. Lets start to show you these. Prop 15, this is the big one, really touching a nerve with a lot of people here in california. It would raise property taxes on commercial properties over 3 million. Owners would have to pay taxes on the current value. So the market value, not what they bought it for originally. Right now the vote on this was 19 of the precincts reporting, a resounding no. So that would mean the property taxes would not change for big business. Still a lot of time left in the night. Prop 16, another big one. This allows Public Institutions such as universities to consider to restab, to bring back affirmative action. Right now prop 16, no, a no vote on prop 16, not to bring back affirmative action. 18 reporting. No on 16 as it stands early in the night. Prop 22, the most expensive prop in the states history, this is all about uber and lyft drivers. Classified as contractors or fulltime employees . Whether they get to stay in that gig economy or not, thats the question. Terry mcsweeney is covering this in San Francisco. A lot of stake for californians since we make up 9 of that uber lyft business. Reporter yeah, this is the most expensive, as raj was talking about, 250 million being spent on this one proposition. 230 million on prop 22 and that comes from uber and lyft and door dash. Those people do not want service their drivers to be considered employees. Its way too expensive for them. Back to you, well have more later. Terry reporting there. Well be here through the night following all these props and the National Election as well. Well send it back to lester holt. This night has not been short on excitement. We still have a lot of votes to count. Lets show you where we are, 11 30 east coast time. 8 30 in the pacific west. Florida is too close to call at this hour, but the president does have a lead and in texas its too early to call, but the president has taken a lead there as well. Another closelywatched state, the state of North Carolina, that is too close to call. Ohio, it is too early. Too early in ohio. Trump leads there. Lets look at georgia. Democrats have been hoping for this one. Too early to call. Well see how the votes shake out there. What are you looking at, chuck . Well, look, i want to update folks. Everybodys wondering about a few states. Ill start west to east. Arizona, 75 reporting. Were stuck. We should have expected this scenario to play out, they call it the red mirage. The reality is this is a more disappointing night for democrats than they were hoping it would be from a big picture perspective. And thats for the states that weve been talking about in the sun belt. They really thought North Carolina was a place they could edge it out by a point. Georgia is still i think an open question as chuck was outlining for all the reasons to do particularly with the suburbs of atlanta. Texas seems in play late in the race. Some of these polls, media polls, internal polls to the campaigns, the super pacs. We had so many numbers to work with. Just like in 2016, most people reading those polls were all thinking that we might see a major realignment in the sun belt in this election. Thats just not happening. Democrats are also very confident about potentially taking as many as winning back as many as 15 additional seats in the house of representatives. And instead theyre seeing some surprising losses in places like Miamidade County. They didnt pick up a couple of teets in texas they were optimistic about. A congressman in staten island, new york, looks as though hes losing. All signs that the country is as divided as ever. That this is not some overwhelming, across the map rebuke of President Trump and its going to be a prolonged fight that many people expected, that the Biden Campaign was anticipating. Were going to pause to allow some of our stations to rejoin our coverage. To early to call in maine. Arizona, biden seems to be leading there. Were froze ont votes coming in, were waiting for more. Iowa, too early to call. Thats how the race shakes out at this moment. In nevada, too early to call, waiting on votes there. Same story in montana, too early to call. Lets look at where we are on this road to 270. You can see biden leading with 192114 for donald trump. 270 the magic number, thats the prize. We were hearing about pads. I heard chris kunz claim they have a lot of paths to 270. These paths are narrowing. Youll see faded blue, faded red are where ive manipulated it. Im putting them where theyre leaning now. North carolina, florida, texas, im putting in trumps column. Arizona, nevada, im going ahead and putting some of maine and some of trump in that column. You start to see here how narrow this is. Lets assume here that biden can hang on to minnesota, wisconsin, and michigan, the three states he had 5 plus point leads in. See the electoral vote . 265. This is making some assumptions here. Now you see that if georgia doesnt come through, iowa any of these three could put him over. Iowa could but i think iowa is going to tilt trump. Georgia, were waiting on atlanta, im not ready to classify that. Look what it comes down to. The paths have narrowed for everybody. We were look at a close election. This feels a little like 2004 meets 1976, for those of you thinking about president ial elections. Both of them were close races, both of them were races that took us a longtime to call. Michigan may not come in until wednesday night or thursday, according to the text i just got from democrats there. Okay, so its all over but the counting. The counting could take awhile. Roll up our sleeves. Were getting close to midnight, maybe the coat comes off, roll up the sleeves. Maybe get the pencils out, a lot of adding to do. After midnight chuck gets loose so watch out. Kristen welker at biden headquarters, how are they feeling . Reporter well, they are certainly watching a couple of these states quite closely. I think one is arizona. One person close to the campaign telling me they feel encouraged by arizona. Because if he wins arizona, then he doesnt necessarily need to win pennsylvania. But as chuck just mentioned, these paths are really narrowing. So if biden wins arizona, then he has to have a sweep of those midwestern states. He has to hold on in michigan, in wisconsin. He cannot afford to lose any of those states. Thats why you saw biden barnstorming those states in the final days of this campaign. But where did he spend his most time . In pennsylvania. Where was he today . In scranton, the place where he was born. He visited the place where he grew up. And so it becomes so critical that the Biden Campaign gets the type of turnout that they were pushing for in the suburbs, in the area in and around philadelphia, that the africanamerican turnout is strong, because it wasnt what it needed to be back in 2016. So that is why biden visited pennsylvania more than any other swing state. 14 times. Now, we cant overstate this enough. The counting of those mailin ballots is just beginning in pennsylvania, so they are urging everyone to be cautious and to brace for what could be a dayslong process of counting these votes that they say theyre going to do it, they say they are going to count every vote. Some democrats have privately been quite critical of bidens strategy. Theyve said he hasnt been aggressive enough, that hes been too cautious. Hes been campaigning against the backdrop of covid. I put that question to one of his Campaign Officials earlier today, were they concerned he wasnt out enough in a place like North Carolina and georgia, which we see now are just so incredibly tight . This official said, no, we feel confident that we left it all out on the field. Biden reiterated that. Unboutedly some democrats are looking at this map and thinking seriously about that. Heres where things stand. California voting for joe biden in a big way. Heres the latest numbers. Nearly half of the numbers reporting. Almost 730 for joe biden. By the way, the last republican to win in california, 1988. George h. W. Bush. Votes are still being tallied. Anyone who was in line before 8 00 still gets to vote. So thats whats left right now. What youre looking at is a live picture of the mexican Heritage Plaza in san jose. About an hour ago there was a pretty big line. This is whats left. These are the people still voting at this hour. Theyre processing those votes pretty quickly. Now lets shift to whats happening behind the scenes. Counting all the ballots. The heavy lifting now under way for registrars across the bay area. Thats out of registered voters of about 443,000. And they believe by the end of the evening, i talked to the registrar of voters, it could be as much as 87 turnout. Again, votebymail, a big player here in San Mateo County. I got the preliminary numbers. They came five minutes after the polls closed. There were no lines, by the way. San bruno maybe had a 50minute wait but when the polls closed they immediately had some 230,000 votes, 82 went for joe biden. That just shows you how quickly they can vote. Well be evening. Guys . Very interesting behind the scenes there. Well check in with him later. Lets talk about statewide propositions. Highprofile ones, prop 15 would reassess taxes on commercial properties. Owners would have to fay taxes on the current value, not the sale price. Look at this. Neck and neck, 50 both ways. Lets talk prop 16, the affirmative action. This allows Public Institutions, things like colleges, universities and governments, to consider a persons race or sex when admitting students. In arizona it is too early to call but it appears joe biden has taken the lead there. Were waiting phenomenon votes to come out of atlanta but right now we characterize it as too early. North carolina is too close to call. Lets go to pennsylvania. It is too early to call. We await mailin up to three days after election day. Theyre postmarked election day. In montana its too early to call, waiting for votes there but the president has a lead. Maine is too early. Michigan, also too early. Thats part of what democrats hope will be the blue wall. Michigan, yeah, we talked about that. Wisconsins the other one, too early to call. Were awaiting votes in milwaukee county, which is a big one for joe biden if he pulls that one out. Alaska is too early to call. Where does this lead us . Lets show you the electoral map. The road to 270. Its got donald trump out front with 209 electoral votes to 205 for biden. Its after 1 00 in the morning and i might be avenue to ask people to do some math on their own, so i apologize for that at 1 00 a. M. Heres the georgia statewide totals. I told you what were looking at. As you see right now, were waiting. 85 of the vote is in. Were waiting, the difference statewide 236,000 votes. Lets go to dekalb county. Right now you see theres 100,000 vote margin. Let me take you back four years ago. Hillary clinton got a 200vote margin out of here. All right. Add up 100 theres a hundred thousand potential voters that net for joe biden that could eat into that lead. Theres one. Fulton county, 181,000. Lets see what Hillary Clinton did here. In this case hes likely to get a bigger number out of there. I dont know if theres new vote to be gained here. But turnout above. Well see. Maybe theres a little bit there. Lets go into cobb. We have still got more to come in. Hes got to increase that lead more there. As you can see, there are there are theoretically the numbers are there for joe biden, as these numbers come in. But well see. Like it all is going to depend this is all going to be on the margins. This is going to shah rink. Youre going to continue soee this number shrink as the night goes on. Is there 240,000 votes somehow more so that he can make up here. We found at least a hundred plus that you see is there. This is why we think this race is going to be one we have to wait on. Georgia . Supposedly. I think we got to find out. By the way, because you asked, you shall receive. Heres the georgia recount rules. No automatic recount. You have to petition but only if its less than a half a percentage point difference. At the end of the day. So thats what youre looking at there. We will wait and see so if for a while. If georgia breaks biden, how much would that change the path . That changes the path a lot. Weve got the president with a narrow lead. We can play the game. First of all, lets go ahead, if you gave arizona and nevada to the president , youd do georgia there. Suddenly, the numbers first of all, let me give North Carolina is certainly leaning in that direction. Minnesota leading in bidens direction. It takes pennsylvania off the table. Right. Georgia would take pennsylvania off the table. Frankly, one of the things that we we called rhode island. We hadnt called rhode island. We just called it. The blue got filled in. Theres rhode island there. We still havent called maine but lets do the 3to1 split there. We know that President Trump is winning the 2nd congressional district. Georgia, you take it away and suddenly hes going to need to get back over here, need some of these states. Stay with me. Now hawaii here is blue and then you have nebraska district would get him to 270. Sorry. I had too get you there. The point is he can get to 270 without pennsylvania. It was a point rich lowry was trying to mike. If georgia somehow went blue, theres a lot more padding. I think he could do it without michigan and pennsylvania. Long way to answer your question, georgia would replace michigan. I have one more. Georgia then goes red. Ok. How does that change the president s path . Does he have to go all the way to pennsylvania . The president no. It looks like the problem hes got now. Alaska, thats no shoein. Wie got to wait. Pennsylvanias not enough. Pennsylvania would leave him four short. He needs Something Else here. He would need perhaps michigan would do it or wisconsin would do it. But the president may be in a position he needs two of those three blau wall states. Thats something that with arizona we dont know what nevadas going to do. Im curious to see the actual returns come in in nevada. The exit polls tell us that nevadans were more focused on they were evenly split. Improving business versus covid. Well, i think that New York Times reporting that there was a water main break in atlanta in Fulton County that means theyre not going to have a final count till tomorrow morning at the earliest. I think chuck is laying out a scenario as he looks at those counties that have not come all the way in, hes making a strong point. Of all the stories of the last week, you guys, the last week of the campaign, the only of the noncore six Battle Ground states, michigan, wisconsin, pennsylvania, North Carolina, florida, and arizona, those six states that both campaigns spent money in and fought in all year long. The story of the last seven days was georgia. There was people who fantasized about texas, including me, about whether the early vote meant there was changes in texas. In georgia, there was something really whats going on. You could see the Biden Campaign went in late. They spent money there late. Barack obama did his Penultimate Campaign in atlanta. There was a growing conventional wisdom on both sides, not just republicans or democrats, that joe biden would have a better chance at taking georgia than taking florida. That conventional piece of wisdom has proven true. It is still the case that joe biden could win georgia and nbc news has been smart to not do what some of the others did and look at the early return and say georgias going to donald trump. Were seeing that, the longer we go on, it looks like theyre doing better. Were not going to know about wisconsin, michigan and pennsylvania for at least 24 hours, maybe longer. Doug ducey, the governor of arizona tweeted earlier this evening its far too early to call the election. Election day votes are not fully reported and we havent started to count early ballots that were dropped off at the polls. Lets koumtd all the votes until we make a declaration. Looks like theres going to be a pause in arizona. The governor indicating not only are they counting election day votes but when people brought their early vote straight to the poll. A lot of things in play right now. Were waiting on some big Battle Ground states but a lot of different possibilities beginning to open up. Lets go first to chuck, whos looking at some of those possibilities. We want to cheap checking in. Thats where everybody else is. Were down i feel like weve got this down to a its right where we said it was going to be. Focus on the Battle Ground states we told you it was going to be. Three wisconsin, michigan, and pennsylvania. Lets get a check in here. This is just incremental as you can see. Its almost all todays vote. Very little coming in. Lets check to see how were doing still. No, nothing new out of philadelphia. Were sitting at the same number we were a halfhour ago. We got nothing there. Lets go to michigan. I can tell you that dante cheney who is a michigan native, our data guy, he looks in here and he doesnt see things that look great for trump in whats come in which could be that when everything comes in. This is why theres a lot of beneficialness among democrats that when the early vote and again we barely touched the earlier vote. We know michigan secretary of state told me this. It was going to be two to three days, period, on michigan. But the modelling right now does still favor biden for what its worth, on that front. I know everybodys thinking polls, modelling, i dont get any of this stuff. Im just letting you know what our data says at this point. This was wisconsins another one why democrats are bullish that theyre that when we get the early vote and the mailin vote all to come in that thats going that theyre going to overcome this difference and really the big area will be milwaukee. Thats going to be a huge dump. We expect that vote between 4 00 and company. This has really narrowed. Were down to four Percentage Points. It looks like donald trump doesnt have enough same day vote to build the pad there. Theres georgia. Leads see if weve gotten any new volt. A little bit but not much. Were still waiting for most of that atlanta volt. Theres your update right now. It is were going to be crawling, crawling, maybe bundles of votes at a time here for a little bit. Look, joe biden got out there tonight because he was trying to win the perception battle, because it is taking longer. You know that they did want they wanted to get a vote out of georgia. They wanted to beg georgia and south carolina. They knew theyd have to wait days for the early vote from the three rust belt states. They really wanted to get it in before pennsylvania, because they knew what the president would do and he went ahead and tweeted, twitter flagged that tweet, said it was not accurate. To talk about a rigged or stolen election when there are millions of votes, millions of votes still not counted. You just dont have the early volt. Weve had an unprecedented election with so many early votes. Nebraska we have just called nebraska, too. And nebraska one, which means it is not going to be solid red. I am curious to see how were going to do this i dont think im supposed to make this change. Well get it back on the map. Weve called nebraska two for joe biden. He will get more in here. Nbc news is projecting the prop 22 will pass. That means uber and lyft can classify their drivers as contractors and not employees. All right. Lets talk about the president ial election. And from the prism of california, not surprisingly, california backed joe biden for president. These are the latest results. You can see with 65 of the precincts reporting, really, a tremendous lead right there for joe biden over President Trump. That is why california is calling for joe biden to be the president. Despite the covid concerns, there are some notable watch parties tonight. Mannys in San Francisco the hot spot for democrats. A few dance breaks you can see there and a lot of smiles especially after biden addressed the nation. This party has now ended. About 150 people were there. At this hour ballots in the bay area still be counted. Cheryl herd is in contra costa county. How busy is it there . Reporter its really busy. Looking at mailin ballots being counted here in contra costa county. Now, these are the ballots that have been collected for the last week and a half. By tonight they expect to count mailin ballots that have been collected only up until saturday. Tomorrow they will start counting sundays ballots up to today. Now, ballots have been counted at the precincts as well. 153 of them to be exact. That, those tallies have been put on memory cards. Those tallies will be uploaded into the county website. Theyve done that already. A couple of times. So far, 315,000 ballots have been counted here. A lot more work to be done, guys. All right. Very cool to see behind the scenes. Are we getting numbers from nevada tonight . We kept trettening to put john ralston on the air. The way nevada is, nevada is basically arguably a two county state. Im going to mispro mountains ouachita county. I always do. Thats where reno is, clark county where vegas is. This is the population centers. Democrats run up the score here. Republicans want to they got to basically match the democrats there and then roar big time in here. I think the only way the president actually wins this is if this if his over performance with latinos in florida translates to clark county in las vegas. Ok. We want to bring in democratic senator bob casey of pennsylvania who knows the state inside and out. We spoke to Forum Vice President biden tomorrow. What did he say to you . Weve got reports that he was calling and saying hey, where are the votes . Why havent we seen the votes come in yet for the key counties. He was just checking in i guess a little more than an hour ago and i was telling him what i knew, which wasnt a lot in the blue counties. And i was expressing real frustration we had nor numbers. He was up beat. So am i. He can win pennsylvania. It will be close. Its going to be a long count, but hes going to win. What is your assessment of the way the votes the coming in right now . Because you have so many mailin ballots in the blue counties, the four big philadelphia counties and Allegheny County, those numbers arent tabulated yet and the president s smaller Rural Counties that hes done really well in have reported a lot more, but even if those counties, joe biden has been chanting off some numbers by getting more of a vote, because ire not getting much of a third party vote. The raw vote for biden is better in a lot of counties than it was in 2016. The suburban philadelphia voter is going to be monumental. I think Allegheny County will be a lot more. It will be close. It might take a while to get to the final number, but maybe by sometime in the morning well know more about the bigger population counts. We want to this is the hour of the morning when we get a little nerdy here. Lets get to eerie county, which can be a bell weather. The president was up there seeing eerie voters. Trump won that in 2016 by two. Obama won it big in 2008 and 2012. What are you hearing . I havent seen a final number there yet, but i think its like a lot of place i think hes going to be able to shave down the margin. I think in the end, this is an election now that will come down to one market and a half. In other words, half of the pittsburgh market and half of the philadelphia market. When president obama won the state in 2012, he won by five, a big philly market more than im going to interrupt you for a second. If you please, because weve got a call on minnesota. Nbc news projects that joe biden will win the state of minnesota, 10 electoral votes. Senator, ill let you react to that if you like. Thats great. Another win. All right. Good talking to you. He gave us numbers that looked like theyre closer to North Carolina but his minnesota projection was pretty off, eightpoint win. This is a state that im going to guess its funny as were sorting out this night, the president is the one that may look around the math and go, boy, there was some missed opportunities. They talked about minnesota. They didnt make a Real Campaign in minnesota. They talked about nevada. They didnt make a Real Campaign in nevada. You start to look around. Look, were experiencing a major reafliemt this country, a political realignment where its lopsided on the popular vote but its dead even in this Electoral College. We have it in this urban split. Looks like suburban america might be moving 60 with the blue team with 40 in the red. I had a former democratic member of kong who sent me a letter asking who thought it was a good idea for joe biden to miss yao. This it turns out that what everybody thought was happening in iowa and ohio that this was a state that donald trump that was an outlier in 2016, that it was moving, its gotten confirmed tonight. Blane alexander is reporting from atlanta that the officials there say they are still counting, that the water main is not stopping them from counting and that the count goes on in Fulton County. Ok. Bring casey into the conversation. Joe biden positioned himself as the responsible candidate, if i can use that term, of wearing the mask and not doing the big krouchltds as these numbers get reported out are we going to look at that different in terms of his inability to get out there and shake the hands and do the ground stuff . Well, its a difficult calculation, lester, because if you think about how this pandemic has played out and where many people thought the race stood back in january before we peen knew that this pandemic was about to hit us. I think there were a lot of questions about whether any democrat was going to be in any competitive race with President Trump come the fall. Then we have been grappling ever since with a historic pandemic. I think it depends on where you start your analysis in 2er78s of how we think about it. But there was a big difference in how these two candidates actually campaigned on the ground. I know republicans certainly are saying their get out the vote effort in Miamidade County in the florida made a real difference for them, especially in communities where were still getting data on first time voters but its possible that President Trump southwested from firsttime voters thats not typical for republican candidates. Typically we would assume that it would be the democratic candidate who would benefit from voters who have never showed up to the polls before. There may some evidence that were still sorting through. That may not be the case. I think theres some questions about having a more robust having more volunteers knocking on doors with their masks on. Now, democrats will say that kind of those kind of tactics were unpopular with their voters, unpopular with independents, didnt want a stranger knocking on their door, didnt want to go a packed rally. We may be seeing that cultural shift play out. I think weve all come to experience that not only are people voting in these different ways but theyre experiencing and living in this pandemic in different ways. The etiquette, wearing a mask can be different depending on the community or where you live. Were starting to see this line up with those trends. Its hard to know. I think part of why the state may have been so wrong, because weve never done this before. Weve never polled. Weve never had a vote that was this massive. In Something Like this, we dont know how voters have been motivated. Were real starting to sort through. I want to go back to chuck. I saw you flash we get excited when we get some returns in. You were complaining about nevada. I was inquiring about nevada. Look. We delivered. Nevada said wait a minute, weve got 74 of the vote in. Clark county came in, ok, is what happens here. You want to see how important it is. S in already 75 of the vote in, so this is is that the kind of margin he needs to carry it . Lets take a look at the Hillary Clinton margin. As you can see hes already above the Percentage Points thats necessary, the Hillary Clinton margin. Barack obama won it by a greater margin. You can see hes sitting in the middle between clinton and biem but both of them carried nevada. This is certainly enough to get him through. But look, you got to wait and see. And again, i do think this is going to be one of those states it ends up two or three points, somebody in team trumps going to say maybe we spent too much time in arizona and not enough time many nevada. Lets go to Halle Jackson at the white house. Weve been expecting to hear from the president. Whats the latest on that . The Holding Pattern on that r now, savannah. The president will come out and speak when he wants to come out and speak and i havent been getting any indications, zero time guidance. We thought it would be earlier based on some reporting from inside the room where we are starting to get a sense of what the scene is like but right now, tbd on when the president will speak. He will on the wee hours of november 4th. A couple of observations. Minnesota, i have to toll you, for months ive been talking to people inside the Trump Campaign and they have been trying to push the idea that minnesota was a state in play. That went away i think in the last six weeks or so and came back with a ven jent jens tonight with the dplents jason miller and others, that is a projection from the trump camp that obviously turned out to be incorrect. Our protection is a little bit of a sense of the one that got away back in 2016. They didnt really put some of the resources there that he put into other states. Georgia, interesting year. Weve been talking, my team here, multiple sources that ive talked to in the last couple of minutes are country ball that and pointing out how close it looks. Fulton, a lot of eyeballs on that. This county they were feeling optimistic about. Certainly not terrible about it. I had one person say were cautiously optimistic about georgia moving in but i dont know that anybody thought it would be as close as it turned out being tonight. I think thats where youre seeing a lot of focus and waiting for those numbers to come in when you talk about the way that the Trump Campaign has conducted its strategy in the last couple of weeks, and this speaks to the point about campaigning in a pandemic, an election happening in the middle of a once in a lifetime pandemic here. The Trump Campaign became under fire repeatedly frankly from people who were concerned that people were showing up at rallies not social distancing at all. Very sparse mask wearing. I was in North Carolina, 24, 36 hours ago and saw the same thing in fayetteville. Not a lot of masks, despite coronavirus spiking in of this these places. Lt the campaign continued to hold those events. They thought it would help with the get out the vote. They talked about the push they were doing with people coming to trump rallies. So they are crediting that at least in some part to, you know, the ability to be turning people out in these placing. One final note. I do think there was some interesting information coming in, at least according to what were hearing from some reporters,s are senior. There are some indications that the Trump Campaign is feeling nor confident about those numbers as we wait for some of these outstanding important states to come through are. Thanks. It looked like 2016 even though trump won the state by lost the state by only two and a half points that maybe we werent so much of a swing state anymore that race was not as close. The republicans made up a lot of ground on election day. I thought that biden had done what he needed to do, the democrats had done what they always do in nevada. As you know, which is they built up a whole bunch of votes in early voting and then the republicans just dont have enough on election day to catch up. They had a big lead in las vegas. Washau county, northern nevada with reno. Thats where the real key of swing nevada is. Biden is up by 14,000 votes in wash ah county right now in the first returns. The first returns are a substantial part of the votes, maybe 70 . So clinton won there by 2700 votes. Bidens up by 14,000. Hes up by about 74,000 in clark county and hes down by 30,000 or so in rural nevada, so they are hitting their marks. We just dont know what the rest of the votes are going to hold. One thing i think weve been thinking about is how hard hit nevadas economy was by the coronavirus. Tourism industry, tourists not coming to las vegas. How much do you think thats impacting the vote tonight . Is that benefitting donald trump at all, because hes focused so much on opening things back up . Thats a great question, casey. Its one of the strategies that the republicans have used here is to say listen, donald trump wants to open up the country, open up the state. The governor who is a democrat, has shut down the state. This is their argument. He has caused the economic havoc, not donald trump. Theyve essentially tried to substitute the democratic governor for joe biden in the state and run against him as much as they run against joe biden. The governors numbers have suffered during the pandemic, no question about it. People are upset. The economy is just essentially based on one industry. That industry, the Casino Industry has been crushed. You have tens of thousands of people who cant get their unemployment checks, so theyre mad. Theyre angry.
