The most famous doctor in the country made an appearance in the bay area today virtually. Dr. Anthony fauci gave us his assessment on how were dealing with the coronavirus and a promise about a future vaccine. Lets bring in our own raj mathai. Raj, dr. Fauci very candid today. Reporter it was pretty interesting. Janelle, this is his new reality. You know that President Trump has stopped giving those regular coronavirus briefings at the white house. So now dr. Fauci is just taking his message directly to the american people. By the way, all of this has become so politicized. We should note dr. Fauci has served six president s now, democrats and republicans, and he says he has no plans of slowing down in the near future. Now, today he met with bay area leaders, and he said a vaccine he promised a vaccine will be free of any political manipulation. Career scientists of the fda will look at the data and another independent Advisory Committee called the verpac committee, will look at the data and advise the fda as to whether to grant this either emergency use authorization or an actual licensure. I will see it, and all of my scientific colleagues will see it. So if anybody tries to do an end run about getting something approved before its ready for the american public, that wont happen. I can promise you that. Pretty bold and pretty firm from dr. Fauci. This was part of a forum hosted by the bay area council. It was moderated by Santa Clara County Health Officer dr. Sara cody. Dr. Fauci said hes still unsure when a vaccine will be ready, but he does see a likely scenario where multiple vaccines could be released over the next year. He also believes new treatments for covid19 could be announced in the next few months. It wasnt all just business talk and medical talk here. Dr. Fauci was asked about his personal life and what he recommends for selfcare during the pandemic. I dont think i should be an example of how one should be taking care of themselves in this because im in a very unusual position in that im running the institute thats responsible for the development of the vaccines and the therapies at the same time as being a member of the White House Coronavirus task force. So i have to say i havent gotten a day off since january, which is not a healthy thing. Literally i have not had a day off since january, and the hours are really grueling. But its one of those things that i just say and i dont mean this in a heroic way. It just is what it is. No day off since january and probably not a day off until this next january as well. He also praised dr. Sara cody of Santa Clara County of her response to guiding the county and really the bay area, setting the tone during this pandemic, and specifically about sending kids back to school, back on campus in a staggered basis right now. So pretty interesting to hear dr. Fauci speaking with all the bay area leaders. Jessica and janelle, back to you. Great to get that info, thanks, raj. I wanted to give you a very special certificate of honor from the city thanking you for helping to rescue maki. [ applause ] and, james, i mean he recognized the lemur. Hes only 5 years old. Its just phenomenal. Barry lippmans family created the zoos outdoor lemur exhibit, and lippman announced today that a new donation will now quadruple its size. So good to see maki back home. I cant look at him without saying it. I want to move it, move it. I want to move it. I still havent seen that film. Madagascar. I have to see that movie with my daughter. Its so good. Jeff, lets get a halloween forecast. People are still dressing up even though many are not trickortreating. Whats the weather going to be like . Its going to cooperate with everyone this weekend after what we went through last weekend with our extreme fire danger. Were kind of putting it on Cruise Control the next two days, and, boy, could we all use it with Everything Else going on. Lets bring you outside to our live highdefinition Sky Camera Network here from this weather underground. Our live view in alamo. You can see all of those blue skies right now, so very, very spectacular out there this afternoon. Now, im calling it great weekend weather ahead as we move through tomorrow morning, some chilly 40s are back. As we move through the day, its going to stay sunny and comfortable. Now, there is a fire in Central California that could bring us a little bit of haze, but overall our air quality will stay moderate. Lets bring you into that morning forecast. Youll see as we start off no issues here at all. Mostly sunny skies. 49 in the trivalley. Peninsula at 50. Also some cool 40s to low 50s for the east bay, San Francisco, and the north bay. But what about specifically halloween . We know were all doing these athome kind of celebrations within your family bubble. You still want to kind of have fun with the kids or with yourself here. Temperatures will be in the 70s for the most part tomorrow. Sunny skies. But if youre at the coast or San Francisco, well have some 60s to low 70s. Looks really good as we move through tomorrow. Temperatures overall in my microclimate forecast are going to warm up a degree or two but doesnt get hot. We still stay in that comfortable range. Down here to gilroy, 85 degrees. San jose, 81. More of those 80s right over to the east bay. 82 in walnut creek. 81 in livermore. Closer to the bay and peninsula, we have 70s coming back. 78 in palo alto. 75 in san mateo. Well bring you to San Francisco. Relatively light winds, sunny skies, and 70 in downtown. 65 for the outer sunset. And right here through the north bay, 80 in santa rosa and 79 in novato. Then over to napa, 81 degrees. So we have High Pressure right now. Thats keeping it warm and relatively calm and unfortunately its keeping that rain track way off to the north. But we are still looking at this window of opportunity for maybe some rain chances to move into california. November 7th through the 14th, wed likely see this colder storm drop down, and its still fuzzy on how much or if we would exactly get rainfall. But it looks good for that window to get this storm system close. And thats better than what weve seen lately in the forecast. Otherwise on my sevenday forecast, we have 60s to low 70s in San Francisco this weekend. And by election day on tuesday, we are at 70. And right here across the inland valleys, low 80s this weekend. 80 on election day. Then by next friday, look at that. Its down to 69 degrees with that changing pattern i talked about. So that will also be certainly some good relief. Okay. Jessica and janelle, i checked out halloween. Not only is it 2020 and halloweens coming this weekend before election, and we have the time change on sunday. But on halloween, we have a full moon. Yes. It usually happens every 18 to 19 years. The next one is in 2039. So a little extra spooky for us with a full moon on halloween. Im going to do the math while were on the commercial break and figure out if im going to be alive by them. Of course you will be. Thanks, jeff. Coming up, actress salma hayek sends a thankyou message to the firefighters who saved her napa vineyard. Were going to share it with you next.
