Thanks so much for joining us. Im laura garcia. And im marcus washington. Mike has a look at that commute. First lets start out with meteorologist kari hall with a look at the terrific tuesday forecast for us. It is looking pretty good. Lets look at what were expecting. Were still under the red flag warning for today especially for the north and east bay hills. Were going to have some warm temperatures for this afternoon just slightly above normal. Overall very comfortable and youll be happy to know we do have calmer weather for the end of the week once these winds really start to go down. As we go through the forecast today we are going to have high temperatures reaching into the mid70s for much of the inner bay and our inland valleys. A few low 80s on the map. Well be tracking that red flag warning and our high fire danger. More on that coming up in a few minutes. Mike, how is it looking now . The dumbarton bridge looking slow. I did check no construction and we often see that heading east on 84. Mostly green other than that and i think we can clear that up. Ill doublecheck. The issue is the bay area bridges, your usual suspects, do not have the wind advisories. I circled benicia and the antioch bridge. Those two between the east bay and the north bay have wind advisories but the others do not. Still gusty out there. Back to you. Thanks, mike. Kari was mentioning extreme fire danger continues, and this morning tens of thousands of people around the bay area remain in the dark. This is because of the latest wave of power shutoffs. The worst hit places still in the north bay particularly calistoga and santa rosa areas. In the east bay take a look at this here, did you know town orinda. The stoplights are out, gas pumps shut down. Some people say they have to resort to buying ice to try to save some of the food otherwise it will go bad. Takes me back to when i was a kid before we a lot of times in the midwest youd have storms and no electricity. So you got used to it. Utility crews will be back at it at day break checking the lines to restore the power. So far pg e says that theyre unable to fly helicopters for inspections because of the high winds. Businesses cant catch a break. The fire started at vasco restaurant in mill valley yesterday morning. Part of a town that lost power due to the psps. This is the same restaurant that lost power during a power shutoff last year that cost the business tens of thousands in lost business and food. To prevent that from happening again the owner spent 7,000 on a generator. The problem this time the generator was part of the solution. The generator was too close to the wall, heated up the wall so much that some of the timber inside the wall caught fire. The fire caused 10,000 worth of damage. The restaurant will be closed for a week. A discarded cigarette started the fast moving brush fire in suisun city. It caught dry brush on fire. The flames took off in 30mileperhour winds. With the red flag warning in effect in Solano County the strike team there in that area and the chief says the extra resources that were really key in keeping that fire at 300 acres and away from homes. Moving on to decision 2020 for california voters who somehow lost their vote by mail ballot, today is the deadline to request a replacement. Thats to ensure your ballot can be mailed back in time. All voters still have the option to vote in person at california vote centers until next tuesday night. Voters are reenergized now. In the bay area some counties are seeing record level participation even though the coronavirus pandemic is changing how some of us vote. One county seeing record turnout. Santa clara county. Today in the bays kris sanchez is live for us at levis stadium which is one of the county vote centers. Kris . Reporter yes, so the niners are on a winning streak and so is Santa Clara County hitting 1 million voters registered for the first time ever. That is exciting news here, and that is 81 of all of Santa Clara Countys eligible voters as of the 60day report. Marin county had 94 . San francisco lagging behind with 76 of eligible voters now registered. State law requires that there be a report at the 60day cutoff. Another report for the 15day cutoff. We expect to see those numbers this friday. Stay tuned for that. As you mentioned levis stadium is one of 100 vote centers in Santa Clara County. You might recall the 2016 voters choice act created vote centers throughout counties to replace a smaller polling place like my local church where i used to vote with larger locations so that they can be open longer before the election so people can vote in person or drop off ballots. Vote centers are new to Santa Clara County, but voters in napa and san mateo county, you got a taste in the 2018 midterm election. Workers and voters alike will have to mask up and keep the social distance because of the pandemic. And we asked people if the coronavirus pandemic is changing how theyre casting their ballots in the 2020 election. I dont feel nervous about voting in person. Im actually more nervous about mailing in my ballot. Ive always voted. Ive had them returned because my signature doesnt match exactly. I might drop it off in a drop box instead of putting it in the mail. I used to mail it. I dont mail it. I take it in now. Ill vote by mail but thats changing my perspective on who i vote for and what i vote for. Ill probably vote by mail. If i forget ill just go in person. Reporter and she can do that because she is registered. If youre still not registered in california you can register to vote up until election day by requesting a conditional ballot. Remember, you have to drop off your ballot by midnight on election day. If youre mailing it in it has to be postmarked november 3rd. You can also register for a mailin ballot. Today is the last day, as you mentioned, and you can track where yours is in the process by going to ballottrack. Net. Were looking at election integrity. We want to know how you feel, whether you think this election is secure. Join the conversation on facebook, on twitter and on instagram. In santa clara, kris sanchez, today in the bay. Certainly the conversation a lot of folks are having. Marin county looking to move into the less restrictive covid monitoring tier this week. Right now it is in the red tier, but they would like to increase capacity in certain businesses so they can move to the orange tier. Now the state is set to make some of those announcements today. San francisco remains the only county in the bay area to be in the states yellow tier. Nonessential offices will be allowed to reopen at 25 capacity today. Also gyms will be allowed to increase their indoor capacity to 25 . So many of us have turned to just going outside, long walks, rides, whatever it takes to get a little exercise. Were always concerned about the air quality, kari. Yeah, were looking at much better air quality. Well just have to monitor it for today, and were still dealing with this high fire danger and this red flag warning especially for our east bay hills and north bay hills. This has been extended until 5 00 this evening as we are still looking at some high wind gusts. As we go through the wind forecast, winds coming in from the north and northeast especially for the north bay, a little bit stronger. Notice for livermore 20mileperhour winds at 11 00 this morning going into the afternoon. Its going to gradually get calmer but we are still going to have some wind gusts especially in our upper elevations. Well talk about whats ahead in the forecast coming up. Mike, how is it looking now for the morning commute . Not bad, kari. I checked around and i dont see any reason we had the slower senses on the dumbarton bridge. Lets talk about the other bridges. I circled the benicia and antioch bridge, the ones chp gave an advisory. Maybe gustier winds than youre used to. Keep that in mind. Thats why we have psps that kari has been talking about or weve been talking about. We still have lane restrictions south 880 to 23rd. A lot more slowing since the beginning of our show, the last ten minutes. The construction zone. Now chp said theyll be there until 6 00 a. M. Cal tran says theyre allowed until 8 00 a. M. , a little bit later. Ill watch closely for any changes. Back to you. Sounds good, mike. Thanks. 4 39. Its not just the bay area dealing with fire danger, still ahead, breaking news were following. Right now at 4 42 our microclimate weather alert continues. One of the things we monitor for a red flag warning is relative humidity, and when its below 30 the air is super dry. And were looking at some of those relative humidity numbers in the teens this morning in the north bay. Well continue to watch out for that red flag warning and our fire weather conditions in the forecast coming up. All right. Im looking for the Road Conditions which are improving as a result of the folks who are working in oakland. Take a look by the coliseum. Traffic flows smoothly heading south, these headlights slowing down just about 23rd and 29th. The overnight road crews are giving a little extra time. Well keep tracking that and get another look outside as we see the other side of the bay. 101 is very clear and very smooth despite crews over there as well. Good morning. Im Bertha Coombs and here are your top business headlines from cnbc. Wall street looking to recover some of yesterdays big losses. The dow falling more than 650 points wiping out gains for october. Zoom rolling out endtoend encryption paid and free users so video chats of meetings should be more secure. Its available now and will be coming to ios apple products soon. A grainy shot but that is walnut creek to start out our day. The east bay, are you with us . Time to wake up. Today in the bay is here. Lets get a look at the forecast for you this morning as we get started. Meteorologist kari hall has been working really hard because conditions are still a little dangerous out there. Yeah, were still tracking some very high winds. I wanted to show you what weve measured the past 24 hours at our airport locations. Of course there are more low lying areas around the bay. Weve seen these winds gusting over 30plus Miles Per Hour, gusts in santa rosa and a win gust and mt. St. Helena reaching 76 Miles Per Hour within the past few minutes. Its still roaring up there in the upper elevations and we have to deal with that, maybe have a tight grip on the Steering Wheel if were still dealing with the high winds through the east bay. Our commute this morning feels much cooler with some low 50s. It will gradually warm up as we head through late morning and your lunch hour. Well see temperatures at the low 70s. Were looking at more comfortable weather again for today but were still dealing with high winds. Going through the forecast, going into this afternoon we are going to see those temperatures at lunch time in the 60s and 70s. We take it into the afternoon. And were at 69 degrees in dublin. And then for later today at about 3 00 to 4 00 were at 76, 77 degrees in concord as well as dublin and then for the north bay well see some low 80s there for today before it starts to cool back into the 60s around sunset. We are going to see quite a few changes ahead as we deal with the red flag warning thats set to expire at 5 00 today. After that we should see winds that are light enough to allow that to expire, but were going to have some much calmer weather for the end of the week. There still will be some storm systems moving to the north of us but that will provide some mild weather as the High Pressure builds across the region going into the rest of the week. Our sevenday forecast shows well mostly be in the 70s, even a few low 80s for tomorrow but the rest of the week, once again the winds calming down so we can enjoy the comfortable weather as we reach into the 70s in the valleys into the weekend. Mike, how is it looking right now for the morning commute . Pretty good, kari. I dont think this is because of the wind but there is a sign down in the middle of the freeway, highway 17. Look at our Silicon Valley map and northbound 17 on this side if youre looking at the tv. Were looking at the traffic that may slow a little bit to hamilton. The sign reported in the middle of the roadway im imagining a quick slow yun for traffic and remove that sign. The rest of the traffic flow looking great except for oakland. 880 southbound still slow down to 23rd but, marcus, i was worried about it being much worse and lasting until 8 00. They may be clearing now. Well doublecheck in a few minutes. Lets hope so for the Early Morning commuters. Breaking for you now in Orange County about 100,000 people are out of their homes.
