Yeah, ive been watching the threat over the next 24 hours of these gusty winds on the increase around the bay area. Red flag warning due to dry winds. We could see some power i eer i some of that planned and the unplanned, as we might see tree damage. Technically, these are on shore cooling winds. We had some drizzle and mist and light rain at times this morning, as you see the wind speeds around the bay area, on shore from 10 to 20 miles per hour. The wind advisory tomorrow, that will be a sign to strong, gusty offshore winds, clearing out the skies and set the stage from a calm start to your sunday to a blustery finish. You see the numbers starting to go up. Gusts approaching almost 50 miles per hour. Thats going to take the air that has a lot of marine moisture and send it flying offshore. This dry air and the strong offshore wind will be at the driver for the red flag warnings well see across the bay area. This gets started at 11 00 a. M. Tomorrow. This includes the coast, the inner bay, all corners of the bay area, most in Northern California as the wind speeds accelerate. Crews are gaining ground on the pope fire burning up in napa fire. Containment is 70 right now. A significant gain from 50 last night. Flames started yesterday afternoon and have burned 67 acres. As you can see, its much of the bay area. In oakland, about half as many customers are now expected to lose power thats roughly 11,000. A dramatic drop in santa rosa from 15,000 customers down to about 2,000. Quite a few schools in oakland are preparing for disruptions from possible power shutoffs. At least 11 schools are on the list that could be impacted. Also on that list more than 20,000 pg e customers in oakland could be impacted. A warning now for People Living in the berkeley hills, get out while you can. Heres Christy Smith with more. Were going to have everything ready. Reporter in the berkeley hills, some neighbors are talking about their plans. Weve been told well have a possible shutoff from 8 00 to 10 00 p. M. And weve been told to have everything packed and ready to go. I also heard you should evacuate earlier if you could. Reporter the roads are winding and narrow. A red flag warning is issued for sunday. Strong winds and high fire danger expected. These two have a place to go, if needed. Were super fortunate. We know someone out of town that we can go for a little bit. This is the first time in recent memory that conditions merited advising preevacuation. Reporter the mayor explained the seriousness of the situation. Our residents who live in parts of the hill are prepared and able to be safe in the event of a fire. So were asking people to preevacuate if they live in parts of our hills that in which theyll have difficulty getting out in a fire. Reporter theyre encouraging people to discuss covid safety. Some hotels are offering discounts. Firefighters are staffing up and police will patrol the hills. Neighbors east of clairemont and around Panoramic Hill might also lose power. The purple shows you the wind gusts above 40 miles per hour. Wind speeds come down towards 5 00 monday evening. Similar spread of wind speeds from the central to south bay. Peak winds from midnight to 4 00 a. M. Look at these humidity numbers decreasing overnight into monday morning. That is a classic red flag pattern. It is a sign of extreme fire danger. High wind speeds, any fires that could be started could move quickly in that environment. The winds should back off. High pressure holds its ground across california. We should see less wind at times. Unfortunately, no real signs of any rain in that sevenday forecast. So the window of opportunity for the strongest wind will be late tomorrow to monday morning for most locations. Tuesday, still breezy in the hills of the north and east bay. Thats why the red flag warning continues for the north and east bay hills. Tuesday after that, wind speeds come down and our temperatures still stay warm as we head towards next weekend.
