We are going to have some slightly warmer weather for the inland valleys today, and were also going to still have the high wind gusts in the north bay especially in the upper elevations giving us a high fire danger for the east bay hills as well as the santa cruz mountains. We are going to see some hot temperatures for this afternoon keeping in mind we should be in the mid70s. Were looking at some upper 80s today with livermore and concord reaching 89. 85 in santa rosa and San Francisco will reach 70 degrees. Well talk more about that fire danger and whats ahead in the forecast. Mike, how is it looking early this morning for the commute . Its looking early, i guess. What that usually means is pretty much green all over the bay. Let me zoom into the one spot where its not green and this is oakland. Up until about two or three minutes ago we had the northbound side slowing also heading to 29th that has cleared up the southbound side toward 23rd. Down to one lane in that direction. Northbound crews should still be there but not flowing right now. On the Golden Gate Bridge well show you coming up. Laura . Thank you very much, mike. Pg e warning customers to brace for another power shutoff. The high fire danger kari was talking about may force the utility to proactively cut power to about 50,000 customers across 19 counties. The areas you see highlighted in yellow where it could happen as soon as tomorrow. California state insurance commissioner wants to make it harder for Insurance Companies to abandon high fire risk areas. Insurers have been abandoning such areas at high rates. The insurance commissioner held a meeting in sacramento to address theish be you and better protect residents from the increasing risk of wildfires. Oakland leaders today make a new push to end the citys recent surge in gun violence. They will debate a resolution making Police Enforcement against gun violence the top priority. Oakland right now is on pace to have the highest number of homicides in years. The resolution would redouble efforts to crack down on illegal guns and focus on boosting Police Response times. Observing couns Oakland Councilmembers have a new plan on hopeless encampments. It would be the citys first real set of organized rules. Supporters say it would better maintain public spaces lowering health risk in the process. Opponents say it would expand Police Activity and not provide the essential services for those who really need it. Happening today mourners will gather for a celebration of life honoring a San Francisco paramedic who died in a training accident. Jason cortez died when he fell 30 feet from a fire escape landing just two weeks ago. Investigators say a blast of water knocked him from the landing while he tried to hook up a hose. Todays celebration of life will include a procession to oracle park. It is not open to the public but it will be streamed online. Some good news when it comes to the outbreak of covid19. The second surge of cases in california has not happened. Governor newsom warned that the end of last month of a possible 89 increase in those cases. Since then hospitalizations actually fell 15 . Mixed reaction from San Francisco parents after an elite Public School proposed a new enrollment plan. The chronicle is reporting the school board will make the final vote today on its Lowell High School having a lottery instead of its regular application process. The school says because of the pandemic the way to assess applicants changed. They usually look at the grades and test scores. The school says the lottery will give everyone a fair chance for next fall. So far over 5,000 people have now signed petitions opposing the change. Those who live in San Francisco struggling to make it in the bay during the pandemic may get a helping hand today. Supervisors plan to vote on a plan that aims to help those living in 2,800 supportive housing. Rent for those residents would be capped at 30 of their income. We also have a high fire danger and the timing is a little bit different for the east bay. Well see our winds picking up for the east bay and santa cruz mountains. Well still have the potential of high wind gusts due to High Pressure off to our west giving us the northerly wind, that offshore wind flow and that elevated fire danger stays with us throughout the week and then some cooler air once a storm system passes just to our east. Looking at our sevenday forecast, upper 80s for the next couple of days. But then it cools off significantly starting on thursday. But once again those high winds will continue. Breezy and much cooler for the weekend. Mike, how is it looking for the commute . The only spot were watching for any concern is the oakland area. Thats where the construction brings you down to one lane. The Altamont Pass looks great on the right side of the screen. Now here is the southbound side of the nimitz has the nightly construction crews with slowing there down to one lane to 23rd. The northbound side we saw speeds improve. There was slowing. Good news.
