Another Beautiful Day in the bay area. Lets take a live look. This is walnut creek. The warm temperatures are still here, but we are expecting a little bit of a cool down this week. Meteorologist rob myeda tracking everything for us including the possibility of some windy conditions making a come back. The weekend did begin with a red flag warning still active for parts of the bay area and now that has shifted to the north and east and dry days continue even with this talk of a slight cooling trend. Temperatures are still going to be staying in the 90s across some of our valleys. Red flag warning just up for northern salono county. Overall the wind speeds have come down, but look at those temperatures going up. Notice the humidity, bay side, 25 . In San Francisco, 94 degrees in livermore, humidity just 11 . So even though technically the red flag warnings have gone away still very high fire danger around the bay area. Just not too much of those gusty winds. 13 humidity, so, yes, a bit of a cool down tomorrow, but that elevated fire danger ongoing, but unfortunately we could see the return of those north winds. Temperatures are going to be cooling down, but that long rach forecast unfortunately continues to bring more of these dry north winds to the bay area. Well talk about the timing on that and impact of the seven day forecast coming up in about 10 minutes. The south bay a violent night left three people dead, several more injured. Well speak to a bay area epidemiologist about a time line and the challenges we may see once a vaccine does become available. And were starting to see the north winds ease off just a little bit, but they could be returning once again, and that seven day forecast, we will look at that and our 49ers game time forecast coming up when we come right back. When was the last time your property tax bill went down . What . Never. Are you kidding me . For years, the residential burden has gone up. While the corporate burden has gone down. Prop 15 reverses that. It closes corporate loopholes and invests in schools, small business, and firefighters. And when the big corporations pay more, your tax bill goes down. Thats right. A savings of a hundred twentyone dollars a year for the average home. Give homeowners a break. Vote yes on 15. The streets in paris are quiet. The french capital is entering its first night of curfew aimed at curbing the countrys Record Number of new covid19 cases. Itll been ebe in place december 1 in paris and eight other cities affecting some 20 Million People. Okay, as weve been reporting the United States is also seeing a huge surge in cases. Yesterday there were more than 69,000 new infections. Last time we saw a daily count that high was in late july as the virus swept through the sun belt states. Nationwide theres now been more than 8. 1 million cases. We could face a third wave of infections, something that could be further complicated by the spread of seasonal flu. Dr. Anthony fauci says hes cautiously optimistic we could have a vaccine ready by the end of this year or next year. Dr. Rutherford, ive spoken to you many times. Ive never seen you in person yet and that Streak Continues tonight. But let me ask you this, how realistic of a time line do you think dr. Faucis time line is . A vaccine in the next 2 or 5 months or so . Oh, i think thats very realistic. I have to say i think we might even have one towards november, early december. I have no insider knowledge, but just reading the tea leaves and the elaborate preparations cdc is asking state and local Health Departments and Big Health Systems to make. I think something is pretty eminent. And lets say it is the end of november, first week of december or Something Like that, so we have this vaccine and now we have get to do 330 Million People in the United States who want it. What are going to be the issues there . So theres a whole series of issues about who gets it first. And understand all the vaccines were talking about are twodose vaccines. So you have to get two doses either 21 or 28 days apart. So if you produce 100 million ds thats enough for 50 Million People, which is enough for, you know, some like 7. 5 Million People in california. You have 15 of the population. So who are those people . Whos going to get it first . Well, clearly people who are facing patients. So the intensive care units, emergency departments, urgent care, clinical settings, emts, nursing home and longterm care facility staff, especially important. Those are the people who are going to get it first. And then were going to move out to essential workers however they be defined. So thats probably going to be defined as police, fire, Public Safety kinds of things. But, you know, to me i think the guys picking the food in the fields are essential workers, too. So its all going to be a numbers game who can get it and who gets it first. I think around, say, late january, early february well get another large volume of vaccine, and then we can start really going through and immunizing people in earnest including people who have risk factors like being older, the rest of the Health Care Work force and start moving it out into the general population. We got to this vaccine historically rather quickly it seems to me from what ive been reading. Do you feel its going to be on point . Its going to be a successful vaccine . Well, theres several. There are three that are deep in trials in the United States and a fourth thats just starting up, so i think were going to have lots of choices. Yeah, i think its going to work well, and i dont think that the fda is going to allow it to be released unless its going to work well and unless it has a very clear safety profile. That was a big sort of internal battle in the between the white house and fda. Fda wanted the vaccine wanted to have at least 60 days worth of followup data from the second dose for a median across all the people who participated in the trials before they could consider it an emergency use authorization. But it was eventually locked in, so i think we have that extra measure of safety. Dr. Rutherford, once again thank you for taking the time. Look forward to meeting you in person one day. Thatd be nice. Thank you. Turning now to our weather its been hot. Were hoping for a bit of a cool down, rob. What can you tell us . Were going to get a cool down but cooler temperatures where the valley are concerned still looking upper 80s and low 90s moving forward. Watching out for the north wind that could be picking up at times as we head into next week. A closer look at the longrange outlook to see if were going to get any rain coming our way. Temperatures seeing around the bay area, still very summer like outside. Humidity at 50 to 70 . Check out San Francisco, 80 degrees, humidity around 25 , not much wind around San Francisco, no sign of fog. In san jose and santa clara humidity at 13 . Keep in mind around this time tomorrow well be 5 minutes before kick off. So thankfully were not expecting 90s out of levistadium. Kick off temperatures should be in the mid80s. So trending a little bit cooler for your sunday, and air quality issues i think arent going to be too much of a problem. We do have moderate air quality around santa clara and south bay. So you notice San Francisco, nothing but sunshine. During the day tomorrow, though, we should begin to see the return of some coastal low clouds and fog. That will provide a bit of cooling around the inner bay and coast for tomorrow and well begin the process of just that slight cooling for the valleys. 60s inland around martinas, concord, livermore, and highs for tomorrow should still hit the 90s south of downtown. Notice san jose, upper 80s. 92 around los gatos. Youll notice the trivalley also still in the 90s. Hayward and fremont still pretty warm, too. You saw those mid to upper 80s in the forecast. Bay side around the peninsula still seeing the 80s. You saw San Francisco in the 80s. Youre expecting mid to upper 70s around downtown tomorrow, the west wind tries to make a come back and north bay temperatures tomorrow a combination of 80s to low 90s. Here is the not so good news. This is the longrange outlook to october 27th. And other than coastal drizzle brought with some fog not a lot to see there. And the pattern were likely to see the next 7 days is a classic october pattern where storms miss us to the north and we get the reset of dry north breezes. A little on tuesday, another thursday and possibly next weekend as looks like more wind could be in that extended forecast. In the shortterm notice San Francisco likely staying in the 70 sz throughout. Temperatures may climb a bit as we head through tuesday and trending cooler as we head towards next weekend. Unfortunately no sign of tape in the forecast. The mid to upper 90s we saw today we should be done with that for a while, but looks like were going to have to watch those north winds. Longrange Weather Forecast still looks pretty dry for the bay area and northern california. Send it back to you. Thanks so much. Coming up next, lurking in inbackyard. Hows that for a tease .
