Of the bay area, especially in the north bay but lets talk about what a red flag warning is. Its issued 12 to 24 hours in advance of relative humidity levels dropping 15 or less as well as winds frequently gusting over 25 Miles Per Hour. These two things are happening at the same time. So we are looking at some very low humidity. I want to take you through the afternoon as we look at our relative humidity levels that will drop down below 9 in the parts of the north bay and also going to see relative humidity levels in the teens throughout this evening and as we go through the rest of the forecast, we are looking at relative humidity lelvvels that will be critically low and creating a high fire danger and continues through tomorrow. Look at the highs for tomorrow. Only reaching into the 80s for the coastline. Also see some mid90s for the inland valleys. It will be really hot, dry and windy and those are our Major Concerns golden gate over the next couple of days so we will continue to monitor that. We will talk about when we will have cooler weather in our forecast coming up. Pg e may cut the power and people are bracing from keeping the groceries from spoiling in the refrigerator. Cierra johnson joins us live from oakland how a lot of folks could be in the dark. How many people are we talking . Reporter we are talking upwards of 33 thousand. The temperature has drastically increased f increased. For the live shot earlier i was in a jacket and the sun is getting warmer. Tell you about a fire vegetation fire in san jose. We had a photographer on scene in san jose getting video of the folks working to put out the hot spots in the wooded area behind east virginia and twelfth street. The homeowner said he was woken up by somebody saw the fire and knocked on his door and grabbed a hose to put it out. Take a listen as he recaps what happened. He said, fire, fire i said what . I come out. He hopped the fence and grabbed the hose and his name was mike. He started spraying. Then the neighbor across the street called the Fire Department but by that time the flames were starting to go on to the house. Scary stuff there. That is what we are looking to avoid as we get deeper into this morning. Back to those shutoffs. According to pg e a spokesperson said the shutoffs are slated to begin at 6 00 p. M. And folks would receive a notification if they are impacted. 33,000 customers could be impacted and we are keeping a close eye on the wind and the temperature. If they both persist, an additional 21,000 customers could lose power around 8 00. I had a chance to spoke with a resident who said this is nothing new but this time she is better prepared and likes to be shutoff as opposed to the alternative. Listen. Ive seen what can happen, the alternative if it were to actually spark anything. So id prefer that we be preventive versus on the wrong end of that. Reporter a lot of folks paying attention to the weather. Pg e are looking to reduces length of those shutouts and extended their hospital fleet so able to not to turn the power off. Some of the parks are closed because of that dry vegetation so be sure not to use any of those cigarette butts or fireworks or anything like that. Thanks. The nbc bay area app is a great way to be informed about the changing conditions. It is free if you download it now. Day three of Supreme Court justice hearings for amy coney barrett. Its not sure if they know more about her than when they started. They dont. She seems qualified. Not the controversy. The timing of this days before an election is controversy. Youre right. Barrett has generally been able to deflect or avoid the legal hypotheticals thrown at her by democrats and trying to get some ideas as to how she might rule on cases and that is what nearly every nominee for the high court does throughout history both because they want to stay out of controversy and the point of being a judge is to judge on the merits of a case. But the Judiciary Committee chairman Lindsey Graham is not shy about praising her positions. This is the first time in American History that we have nominated a woman who is unashamely pro life and embraces her faith without apology and she is going to the court. Judge barrett has been avoiding the question of abortion in roe v wade and not uncommon for nominees to tryo stay away from those issues and not thuncommon for senators to push them toward it. A womans constitutional right to choose was established by the Supreme Court 47 years ago. The Supreme Court almost never overturns itself. That is an important tradition. If it did overturn itself often, youd have rights come and go depending on the makeup of the court. As judge barrett poise out, the court almost never reverses itself. No justice that im aware of throughout history has ever maintained the position that overruling a case is never appropriate. As you probably know, there is a Supreme Court case that said that states could criminalize Sexual Conduct between samesex couples and lawrence versus texas overruled that case. Another case was and brown versus education overruled it. Versus ferguson was the establishment of the separate but equal idea. Supreme court said people could be divided by race so long as they both got equal treatment and 58 years later the court realized it was wrong and reversed itself. We will be tracking that for a few more days now. Thanks, scott. Turning to the president ial race. With just 20 days to go biden and trump golden gate full speed ahead in key swing states.
