We tape early, so im not sure what happened, but i know even if we didnt, im sure id still feel that way. President trump and former Vice President biden faced off tonight in the first president ial debate. And the topics included coronavirus response, mailin ballots, hunter biden, taxes, hunter biden, climate change, the supreme court, and hunter biden according to a new poll, 41 of voters expected President Trump to win tonights debate. The other 59 think hell lose and claim the loss on his 2020 tax returns ahead of tonights first president ial debate, moderator and fox news anchor Chris Wallace said he will not fact check President Trump and former Vice President biden unless trump says something completely insane like, everything is going fine. Vice president mike pence hosted a Debate Watch Party tonight in pennsylvania, and there aint no part like a mike pence part cause a mike pence party dont start deejay, turn up that White Noise Machine [ imitates white noise ] the cd a lot of breath control on that one for me the cdc has released guidance on how to safely celebrate thanksgiving this year amid the coronavirus pandemic, including avoiding alcohol, which can impair judgment. I mean, the doctor actually said, its an option to cut it off. And im the only one in the family thats team cut it off. But he hes so afraid of, you know he would never, and hes terrified of hes so scared of any surgery he was supposed to get surgery on his his rotator cuff, you know seth yeah. Because he couldnt even do this and then the doctor said he needed surgery, and he did it. He was like [ groaning ] he lifted his arm. [ light laughter ] the doctors like, howd you do that . And, you know, in his, like, thick boston accent, he goes, fear cured me. [ laughter ] seth your dad is a funny funny and strange, i feel like is how you would describe him, correct . Yesterday, he sent an email to hes been with the same Accounting Firm his, like, whol before him and he sent an email that was like, listen, i know weve been using your firm for since 1947, but i just think its time to make a change also, p. S. , can you send me trumps Tax Accountants number . Which is, you know its soft comedy, but youve got to give him credit because he didnt write, like, lol, or just kidding, which is, you know, ballsout comedy, like, when youre not sure. Seth he just let them have to deal with it, percolate it for a while. Just got to trust they know its a bit seth you i want to ask about this do you have any expectations about the debate tonight i guess im pretty sure it will be awful. Seth yeah. I have this dream, like, i wish like biden i feel like any gesture of care would throw trump off. Like, if biden, right before they go live, just was like, went up to trump and said, hey, man. Are you okay . You know, just like throw him off his game seth thats a really maybe Something Like that its just so, like this is just a terrifying year i mean, you know hes trump knows that the only way he stays out of jail is by being president. So hes, you know, discrediting the vote by mail, hes trying desperately to get as few people to vote as possible. And its just, like, you know, his whole cabinets like in jail or convicted or on trial its like, can we just please vote for biden and end this white house to prison pipeline once and for all seth it does seem like they have tried to paint biden with a bunch of different brushes and one of them is that he will lead he will open the gates to socialism, which i think is probably a surprising thing for someone like yourself, who is a democratic socialist you know, its a real reminder that, had bernie i think that was the fear, if bernie was the nominee, thats what they would have said. Well, clearly the rncs talking points didnt change from when they assumed bernie was going to be the nominee. Seth no, they didnt the fact that, like, joe biden is going to, you know, make the country socialist is like hilarious. But also, what do you not like about socialism . I mean, im a democratic socialist, but so is everybody, in essence like, the bedrock of our democracy is has socialism. What do you hate about socialism . You hate, you know, driving on roads . You hate sending your kids to Public School . You hate being able to call the Fire Department if theres, like, a cat stuck in your tree you know those are socialist programs i mean, listen all it is, is is like you know, healthcare for all and education for all. So, you dont have to be rich, you know you can still become a rich ass[ bleep ] it just means that, like, kids dont have to go hungry in order for you to do it does that ruin it for you . You know seth yeah, i feel like yesterday was especially with the tax stuff, you just go, oh, yeah, you know, donald trump would have still been a rich person if he paid his taxes. You know, maybe not real rich. Whatever. Seth but that would have been nice, to have that money to use on something other than the things that donald trump wanted to buy for himself yeah. Like, billionaires, if they paid their tax, like the same percentage taxes as, like, a wait a server at a restaurant i almost said waitress [ light laughter ] woke seth bullet dodged i love that senator tim scott, the guy who spoke at the Republican National convention, and he was like, if biden wins hes going to turn this country into a socialist utopia i just its just funny. Like drop utopia if youre trying to undersell something. Seth yeah, its a bad word to use in a negative i know one of the things that you found yourself doing i dont think you were alone in this during these last seven months or so was playing a lot of video games were you a gamer before this started . Or did you just have more time to game . I was not i mean, the last time i was a gamer was nintendo 64 golden eye, which i still know every room of every map. But when everything shut down, i was in new york. And i i just went to gamestop and said, i better im going to learn video games. So, i bought, like, a used console and a couple of games, and then i just got really into call of duty wwii, which is great because you get to kill nazis. Seth yeah. But i played with my i have an assistant, annie, and she moved to new york with me for the three months i went there. It was going to be, like, our last hurrah before she goes on to bigger and better things. And we ended up being quarantine partners and we played call of duty wwii every night. But when you play against each other, seth, what you dont realize is somebody has to be nazis. Seth sure. I was nazis seth really . Now, me, Sarah Silverman, im against nazis. Seth famously so as an actor, you have to sympathize with your character so, it was like i had to really get under their skin and be like, hey, these people are trying to take away our freedom, our freedom of exterminating all jews and creating a perfect aryan race. And, you know, it was really fun. Seth thats thats great. And so much fun that it inspired you have an idea for a new game okay. Her debut collection of poetry, swimming lessons poems is on sale today please welcome back to the show, lili reinhart. Hello, lili. Hi. Seth its so nice to see you again. The last time you were here, actually here, was january 2017. The night that riverdale premiered. Im assuming life has been a lot different these last threeplus years . I know. Its its like 3 1 2 years ago, no one knew who the hell i was and why i was on your show [ light laughter ] and now here i am again, and hopefully a couple more people know who i am. Seth i think that is very safe to say. I want to talk about your poetry book, but i also know youre back in vancouver. You guys are actually shooting right now. You know, were obviously dealing with a lot of Covid Protocols here with our show hows it been for you so far its interesting. I was a little nervous that it was going to be, you know, too sterile of an environment to actually be creative in. But it actually has been really, you know were just on top of our game, very being very safe people are people wear lanyards with a color on them that indicate how close they can get to the cast. So, you know, if someone is not in the red zone, meaning they cant go within six feet of us, you know, you walk youre Walking Around set, people see you, and they go, oh and they, like, turn away from you as if you have, like, the plague, because they cant be in contact with you its very strange. Seth and another thing that i dont know if its strange or fun, it certainly sounds exciting this is your fifth season but youre jumping seven years into the future. That must just be fun for the cast it it totally is its kind of a our way of revamping, i guess i get to play someone whos my age now and not a teenager im like, ive going up in the world. Seth that i mean, over the years, a lot of shows that take place in high school could have done that, and it would have been a lot nicer for the actors to be their own age [ laughter ] this is not the first case that that was true of right i dont want to be, you know, 30 playing an 18yearold. Thats a little seth right, as long as they keep jumping, youll be fine right, right, right seth so you decided to write a very personal book of poems. And im wondering, like, what was your decisionmaking process to want to put this out into the world . I mean, i really just find that i am the kind of person who needs to talk about my own problems and emotions. I just kind of have to talk about it out loud and share it with the world, whether they want to hear it or not which can sometimes get me in trouble, but you know. I was taking kind of a risk and a leap of faith by putting something that was personal out there in order to encourage other people to be vulnerable and to, you know, tackle their problems, their emotions, whatever theyre going through, through art. You know, my outlet just so happened to be its acting, but its also poetry and so i think if this book can encourage people to, i dont know, sort of feel welcomed or supported by this community, thats what im thats what im trying to do, if that makes sense. Just kind of be an example to others that its okay to be vulnerable and put yourself out there. Seth you mentioned that its personal i feel like a lot of times when, you know, actors or any kind of artists decide to write a book, oftentimes the way they make it personal is by writing something autobiographical you know, this is obviously pulling from your life, but its not that kind of book. And while i love those books, its also really nice to, you know, see an actor write any kind of writing that was not just, you know, i was born, and then i did this right, i know im like, im, you know, i just turned 24. Am i supposed to write a memoir . Like i it didnt feel organic. Im not a huge fan of those kinds of books its kind of a little i dont know, theyre just weird to me im not really that interesting, i dont need to write a whole book about myself. So id rather just write a book of poetry in which people can read it and sort of put themselves in my shoes and see themselves as the the narrator, almost seth and what about your writing routine . Did you have one before you started this or did you have to develop it over the course of writing the book i mean, i would love to say that i am, like, sitting in this dark room while theres a thunderstorm, and i have like a quill, and im hunched over seth its the way we all picture it right, you could picture it that way really, i write i write my poems on my phone. I write them on the notes the little notes app its really nothing too spectacular. But i think its, you know i always have my phone on me, unfortunately. Thats just how it is, so. When inspiration strikes, i just look, here it is. I just pull it out and write it down. Seth i think its very safe to say that if shakespeare had a phone and access to it, he probably would have done the same its very easy to, i think, older generations to say, a phone . Everybody just needed the closest thing to write down their ideas as fast as they could. Exactly, exactly. Seth i know for some people, they might think, oh, thats so nice that you got to go to vancouver. But of course, when youre working in canada, it kind of limits your ability to go back and forth. Youre pretty much stuck there, right . Even for things like holidays . I know. Yeah its going to be my first year in my life that i dont get to go home for thanksgiving which is so, you know its its sad, but i think, hopefully, my cast and i will have a cast thanksgiving dinner, meal, whatever the case may be so its, you know its interesting, but weve got to take it, you know see the Silver Lining here i get to be with my show family, which is which is beautiful as well.
