Reporter doctors saying he continues to improve after a delayed acknowledgement that his oxygen levels had dropped twice in recent days and that hes now taking a steroid typically only recommended for seriously ill patients in the hospital. They may be thinking that they can turn the white house into a bit of a hospital for him. But if he needs intensive care unit, hes going to have to go someplace with a great team. Its a very, very serious disease. Reporter at the same time, questions remain about the scope of the outbreak inside the white house. Press secretary Kayleigh Mcenany and two top assistants today joining the list of several highlevel staffers testing positive. Even though President Trump is now back at home, you heard his doctors say that hes not out of the woods yet, and he is certainly going to need to be closely monitored because medical experts agree that the next few days in the course of any covid19 diagnosis are critical for recovery. Back to you, jessica and raj. Thank you very much, alice. Now, as we told you, the president is going to continue his treatment and the recovery portion at the white house. The question is, is that a good idea . Lets bring in our janelle wang, who spoke with our Infectious Disease specialist about this decision. So what did dr. Peter chinhong have to say . Yeah, dr. Peter chinhong of ucsf says its not unusual a covid patient is discharged fairly soon after being diagnosed with covid, especially if theyre doing well, which is what the president says hes doing. Hes feeling very good and especially since the president has a full medical team at the white house. But its the president s treatment thats sounding some alarms. The president received what dr. Chinhong calls the dream trio, an antibody cocktail similar to convalescent plasma, remdesivir, and the steroid dexamethasone. That combination is usually given to the sickest patients. Dr. Chinhong says the antibody cocktail and remdesivir not really any serious consequences if you take it. But dexamethasone, thats baffling. Is it harmful for somebody who has mild symptoms to be taking the steroid . So unlike convalescent plasma or an antibody cocktail, using steroids come with some side effects. So the side effects are its an immune suppressant, so you can imagine why biologically it wouldnt make sense to give it early on because youre trying to have the immune system not sleepy so that it can try to mop up whatever virus it could. Secondly, it can cause more infection superimposed because its an immune suppressant. So we worry about when you do something and the risk benefit calculus supports not using it, that using it prematurely may end up being worse than the benefit it was supposed to get. Dexamethasone also has side effects including euphoria, which some people enjoy but patients can also become manic and suffer other Mental Health side effects. Dr. Chinhong says the key now is that the president be closely watched because Covid Patients can take a turn for the worse pretty quickly, and the president should also isolate himself. We tell them they cant really go out into the world really because theyre still potentially shedding infectious virus. And the cdc actually has very good guidance around this. So the minimum is ten days before having Infection Control precautions be disbanded, and 20 days if youre really sick. Dr. Peter chinhong a little disappointed that the president downplayed his covid diagnosis on twitter since covid19 has killed more than 200,000 people in the u. S. So far this year, and things expected to get worse with flu season now here. Doctors are calling it the twindemic, so its important, dr. Chinhong says, to get that flu shot as we wait for a covid vaccine. As for the president , its wait and see. Dr. Chinhong says the next few days still very dicey and doctors should keep a very close eye on him. Thank you very much, janelle. As the president battles covid19, there is a concern about a second covid wave, especially with the halls coming up and flu season. Take a look. California numbers arent decreasing as fast as they have been, but theyre not going back up either. So its a pivotal time here. Heres the states Positivity Rate. Thats the white line right here. The Positivity Rate at 2. 8 . It dropped through the month of september. For the past couple weeks, the Positivity Rate started to plateau. As of yesterday, 2. 8 . Thats a pretty good number. Also more people are getting tested. Thats the next line, the blue line. You see the number of tests there per day. It started to dip a little when the wildfires started, but then testing heres the dip with the wildfires. Testing then went back up a bit. The numbers show more than 140,000 daily tests statewide. Jessica. Santa clara county could be just over a week away from relaxing its strict covid rules. The state could know by tomorrow if Santa Clara County will graduate from the red to the orange tier. If so, changes would take effect no earlier than october 14th. The most significant change would be Indoor Dining and public gatherings. Today the county announced dining and gathering would be capped at red tier levels. That means 25 of capacity or 100 people, whichever the number is lower. San francisco has already done it. San francisco is taking a similar approach where Indoor Dining and indoor gatherings for church and indoor Movie Theaters are also at the red tier level. Theres another message, which is that if covids cases spike again in the south bay as they did from june to july, then the county could revert to outside dining and other previous restrictions. Lets bring in our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri as we kick off this monday. Some good news in the north bay as you forecasted. What comes next week, jeff . We do still have two different chances of rainfall coming our way as we head through this week, so something to look forward to in that Weather Forecast finally. So i did want to start off with a wide view of what im tracking right now. And the other thing is going to be some remnant moisture from hurricane marie. Were going to see this stream of subtropical moisture just to the south of us the next couple of days. Our chances are slim of getting any rainfall from that, but any rain that gets close, we will be tracking it. Our better chances, i definitely think, of getting some rainfall are from two different storms, one on friday and one on saturday. Not only a rain chance but also some much colder temperatures. So lets go ahead and move it into tomorrow morning. No rainfall just yet. Well have 50s here to start with. Those areas of smoke, also some patchy fog near the coast and the bay. Right here for the east bay, 55. San francisco, 54. Some of that fog. For the north bay, 51. Overall numbers tomorrow drop a couple of degrees, so down in the south bay it will put us at 82 in san jose. 88 in gilroy. For the east bay, also still finding some upper 80s and low 90s. But as you head closer to the bay, numbers are beginning to drop down to 76 in oakland. Plenty of 70s through the peninsula as well for redwood city and palo alto, well be in the upper 70s. San francisco will be dropping into the 60s. Winds out of the west at 13. 69 here in the mission and the north bay, i have you coming in at 86 in napa. 84 in santa rosa. So tomorrow is dry with those areas of smoke, unhealthy air quality. But lets get to the good stuff. The big weather headline, and that is the potential of rainfall. So i want to fastforward things right into thursday night at 9 00 p. M. You can see how that storm system will be lining up right here at the coastline. Then as we move into friday, well see the rainfall at this point likely move over for the morning, and you can see. Then as we head through friday midday in the afternoon, well have some spotty rainfall left for us. Maybe even some snow across the summit near yosemite. Great news on that front. And then well see a second round of potentially some rainfall lining up once we hit saturday morning. And then that would be moving in as we head through saturday evening. Now, totals on this not very impressive right now, but well take anything we can get for that fire danger, right . 0. 05 to a half inch. Better bet of those higher totals in that yellow color right there through the north bay. Were done with the heat. Temperatures drop into the 60s this week with that chance of rain friday and saturday. Thats for San Francisco. And for my inland valley forecast, this is going to feel chilly for us. That is 72 on friday, 71 on saturdays forecast. Now, we still need to wait on some more information on these totals. Were definitely going to nail it down a lot more as we get closer. But the best bet right now, 0. 05 to about a half an inch on average. This is just what the firefighters need, especially the folks in the north bay now, so good news. We love that fall weather. Its so great to see that, especially when it starts to get a little chilly in the air, jeff. Up next here at 5 00, regal cinema shutting down all of its theaters indefinitely.
