One of them is experimental, and its being tested at stanford. We spoke with one of the doctors involved. Heres nbc bay areas sergio quintana. Reporter the Clinical Trials are so new, stanford hospital just got the drug three weeks ago, the antibody therapeutic cocktail is supposed to help the bodys immune system fight off a covid19 infection. The experimental drug given to the president is called region cov 2. Regeneron, the manufacturer, says it provided a single eightgram dose for the president. He got the highest dose, which appears at least in the early studies to be very effective. Reporter dr. Yvonne maldonado is a disease epidemiologist who is participating in the Clinical Trials. The drug is a cocktail of something called monoclonal antibodies. An antibody generated from a vaccine or a monoclone can actually stick to the virus, for example, and prevent it from sticking to the human cell so that the human cell doesnt get infected. Reporter but since the drug is so new, theres not much data about its longterm effectiveness. Hundreds of homes in two counties are destroyed, and the firefight continues with a lot of changes. Heres nbc bay areas jean elle in calistoga. Reporter the glass fire is now burning in very rugged terrain in the hills above calistoga. In some cases, it is not accessible. In other cases, it is accessible but only on very narrow roads, making it challenging for firefighters. Cal fire crews position trucks on Diamond Mountain road in calistoga, preparing to put water on flames burning on a steep hillside. Cal fire says its timeconsuming work for crews that are stretched thin. The narrowness of the roads makes it difficult for the fire apparatus to travel. It makes it difficult for us to establish lines. It just makes the work more intensified. And understand that if this were the only fire in the state right now, wed probably have two to three times as many personnel. Reporter further south across from the Ritchie Creek campground, fire is burning big trees, creeping up the hillside. The valley is covered in a thick blanket of smoke, which means no air attack. If they cant see where they need to go, then they cant go. Reporter inspectors are now out assessing the damage. Cal fire says the glass fire has destroyed 173 homes in napa county, 120 in sonoma county. Those numbers are expected to grow. Right behind us, the whole hill was on fire. This is whats left of the white Sulfur SpringsRetreat Center in st. Helena. 17 of the sites 20 buildings were destroyed. The resort first opened in 1852. Its where San Franciscos elite would go for a break from the city life. Back in the day, it was the place in the napa valley to go to. We intend to rebuild and to continue the tradition. The resort now belongs to the hoffman institute, which is a nonprofit that used the property to host retreats. All right. Take a look at this. You can barely see it through the smoke and the hayze. Thats levis stadium. The nfl is watching carefully as the niners gear up for sunday night football against the eagles. Today santa clara had an air quality index of 150 to 200. Thats in the unhealthy zone. The nfl says it will consider postponing or moving a game if the air quality index is higher than 200. But a bay area pulmonologist warns it doesnt need to be that high to do harm. Yes, absolutely air quality index over 200 is clearly unsafe for anybody to be outdoors and exerting themselves. But there is going to be a health risk to 49ers players if the air quality index is in the 150 to 200 range. The niners did practice today. The team releasing this statement saying air quality in santa clara is at a level where we can still practice. Current forecasts say that our air quality will not be an issue at game time. So thats going to help. And as we move through tomorrow, winds also decreasing. Wind gusts of only 5 to 15 miles per hour. So just a couple more hours to go of these potential winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour, but youll see on my next map once we hit 6 00 a. M. , as that fire warning expires, we are looking at some calm wind building across the bay area. Just a little burst of wind left there at the northern coastline and as we progress through saturday, that wind also begins to fade as we get a cooler westerly flow back. So air quality, what about it . You can see on this forecast model data here, focus in on the red. Thats the worst smoke. And by the afternoon tomorrow, we definitely should see more of that bad smoke pushing into the central valley. Not good there but in the bay area youll see were more in this blue color. So we start to transition to more of a hazy sky. So with that said, i have improved my air quality forecast. I do think well go to the moderate for the bay and the coast. But we definitely could still creep into that unhealthy range for the south bay, east bay and the north bay. Temperatures have been hot all week, so uncomfortable with the smoke. Tomorrow we drop it down five to eight degrees. So this will be better for you. 90 in concord. 87 up to napa. San francisco looking at 70. Down to san jose will be at 89 degrees. The extended forecast, ive dropped temperatures back to the 60s sunday, monday, tuesday, all the way through friday of next week. And for the inland valleys, also seeing a considerable drop here.
